Q: Is it waterproof? Can it be used in the ocean?
submitted by company shill - 4 years ago
A: The GeoSafari Jr. Sneak and Peek Periscope is not waterproof, however, the GeoSafari Jr. Subscope is, and was created to look at things underwater. It can be used in the ocean (https://www.target.com/p/educational-insights-geosafari-jr-subscope/-/A-80381039#lnk=sametab).

This was a Christmas gift for my little one. It’s been such a hit! Hasn’t broke, chipped, or gotten damaged at all despite adventurous playing and the light is such a cute feature.

I gave this to a three year old boy for a birthday gift, so under the age range. He appears to like it especially the light but is finding it tricky to use because he is a bit young. Excellent sturdy product and I got it in the sale so very happy.

We had the perfect opportunity to observe nature on a couple of recent camping trips we took. We had a great view of the Salton Sea and so we used our new Periscope to check things out!
My six year old Paige was immediately interested in it I liked that the big handles made it easy for her to grip. It's lightweight so it's easy for little ones to hold onto. The attached goggles also gives them a safe, soft place to put their face without injury.
Paige was really fascinated by it and had a lot of questions about the way it worked and the way she was seeing things. I admit I had to look a few things up to answer her questions. We're both learning with this one!
A cool feature is the LED light they can flip on for night viewing. I like that it's LED so it'll last longer than traditional lighting. It does require batteries that it does not come with so we had to wait until we got home to try that feature.
The GeoSafari series has many items like this that are great for beginners to explore their world. It encourages a love of science and exploration at a young age. I love how they are made specifically for kids and have considered what appeals to them.
The Sneak & Peek Periscope has made it's appearance several times over the past couple of weeks whenever Paige decides she wants to get a better look at something. I'll see it looking at me from around the corner or peaking up over the couch! It's cute that it's become a little tool for her and that she enjoys using it!

Right now, Pirates, Nature, Submarines and Spying are quiet popular in our house, so the Sneak & Peek Periscope came at a good time. Our 5 year old thought the idea of the periscope was really interesting and fun. His favorite activity with it is to use it in a "tent" where he can secretly peek out and spy on us. It is very durable and easy for a 4-5 year old to handle. This toy does not have magnification nor does it have the capability to be extend. Unfortunately, the novelty of it wore off for him rather quickly, but it tends to be popular with visiting friends.

My 5 year old recently received this item and it has entertained him on a daily basis since. This periscope is light, durable and easy to handle and works in well lit conditions as well as at night with the added LED light on the front of the neck of the periscope. The frame fits comfortably around his face and the periscope is light enough for him to walk around with while scoping out people in the house and outside in the yard. The light makes for a lot of fun search and find adventures around the house at night with all the lights out too. We will definitely have to get another periscope for our 2 year old to play with when she gets a little older.

Well built toy and so much fun! We have 2 girls, aged 6 and 4, and they both love the periscope. They love being able to look around corners, sneaking up during the day and night (the light on the periscope enables that!) and pretending that they are pirates and explorers. I find it hilarious that I can see their eyes in the periscope when they are watching me. We spent a few minutes talking about how the periscope works with the reflective mirrors so it was a good science lesson to share, AND it is a fun toy! You need to insert 3 AAA batteries for the light to work. What's also nice is that the toy is well built and seems like it will withstand plenty of play.

This toy is well made: shatter proof mirrors, lightweight, and easy to grip handles. My three year old thought it was really fun to "spy" on us while we were in a different room. The novelty wore off fairly quickly though. I think it might be better suited to ages five and older. However my husband absolutely LOVES this thing and I know it will continue to be used by the whole family for years to come. Well worth the cost!

At first both my 4 year old and 2 year old loved this periscope. They liked how the viewing lens was big enough to see through both of their eyes and they enjoyed seeing around the corner or just peering over the couch or behind a bush. My 2 year old loves the light switch and enjoys looking at things at night. However, the novelty of it soon wore off and now it is used more to store their toy cars in.

We were sent this product for reviewing and my 6 and 4 year old loved it right out of the box.
The periscope really sparked their imagination and they pretended to be secret agents and used the periscope as their secret spying tool and the LED light was a huge hit with the boys. They even took it to go bird watching on a hike and were very excited that they could see the different colors of some of the birds 'from up so close' in the forest preserve. The kids insisted on taking it to a family event, climbed the tree house with their cousins and played pirates with the periscope to 'search for land' and 'other pirate ships'.It was interesting to see how after their play they were so curious to know as to how their eye was magnified on the top which started a whole new learning topic on reflection, light and mirrors.Being the science teacher I am, I did a mini impromptu science lesson to explore and explain how a periscope works which made some of the older kids ask their parents to get this 'amazing toy that does not look like a toy'.
Also, the periscope is built very sturdy to withstand use by little hands. My kids argued as to who would take it first for 'show and tell'at school.
The periscope provides a lot of imaginative and scientific exploration opportunities for budding scientists and would be of great interest to parents and children who engage in meaningful and constructive play.
Very cool!

Both of my kids were thrilled when they received the periscope. It's is very light even for my 2 year old to hold and carry. The view is clear and it's very well made. My kids are enjoying a new way to explore and observe their surroundings using the periscope. What a neat toy!

My four year old son loved this product! It looks great, it has an easy to handle design, and its just an all around awesome concept. He spent most of his time playing with this outside. It was perfect for spying birds, and trees, plants, and insects. I liked the feature of the light as well. My son and daughter played with this during lights out and spied things around the room in the dark. I'm sure my son especially will enjoy this toy for a long time!

My 4 year old took longer to grasp the idea of peeking over or around things but my 6 yr old understood better. It is a neat toy but the excitement of it wore off fairly quick. It is excellent for anyone interested in science or submarines.

My 5 year old was so excited to have this toy! The use of the periscope is self explanatory so he instantly took it in his hands and started viewing the world around him. He wanted to go outside right away. The light feature is a nice (and always fun) feature for kids as well. He figured out that he could make people appear shorter by angling the periscope a certain way and he thought that was great!
My 6 year old liked how you could use the periscope to "spy" on people. He tried to find places where he could sneak on others and watch what was going on around him.
It's a nice educational tool to explain how the periscope works- mirrors, lights, reflections- for an older kid. The parts are so easy to see and point out to any child.
It is very light and durable. It frames comfortably around the kids' face.
Easy for any kid to pick up and just explore!

We received the Geosafari Jr. Sneak & Peek Periscope from Educational Insights in exchange for our honest review.
My five year old daughter loves this periscope! She is an explorer at heart, as most young children are, and this has been such a fun addition to her collection of toys! She loves to sneak around - both inside the house and outside - with her periscope, peeking around corners, over the sides of beds, and as she describes it, "seeing through walls." Periscopes are cool tools, there's no doubt about it! I love that this one is of superb quality. It's sturdy yet lightweight, easy and clear to see through, easy to hold, and has the fun addition of a light. In my daughter's words, she says her favorite parts are that "there's a light on it, you can look on top of it, and it makes some things big and small." As a mom, I love that it encourages creative play and exploration both inside and outside. You'll need 2 AAA batteries to use the flashlight and they are not included. You'll also need a little screwdriver to open the battery compartment. We highly recommend the Geosafari Jr. Sneak & Peek Periscope from Educational Insights for all your exploring kiddos!
