    Great smaller watch!

Full disclosure: I have not used this watch in training YET. I bought it right after I had surgery for a femoral hernia, and I have not started training again yet. I race sprint triathlons and compete in martial arts. This is a smaller watch for a smaller wrist, and I love the way it fits. The screens are very customizable, and I have set up the data fields to be ready when I start training again. I bought a nylon wristband. It stays wet for a couple of hours, so if you do a lot of swimming or sweating, you might prefer the silicone one that comes with the watch. I had used a Garmin Forerunner 735xt, which was a great watch, except it did not have Grade Adjusted Pace capabilities and this one does. I had bought another brand of watch in between, and when it started malfunctioning, I came right back to Garmin. This is a great watch for a serious amateur athlete!

I had a Garmin 245 for 3 years and the battery started to not last. I upgraded to a 255. after one day and a 20 mile run my battery already drops to 60%. I also have tattoos on my wrists and the HRM does not work AT ALL. I’ve tried it every way, even with the watch face facing in, it just doesn’t give me accurate stats.

I purchased the Garmin Forerunner 255S to replace my previous model Forerunner 225. This model has new features and capabilities that my last watch did not. I like the size of the screen and ease of programming. I enjoy the summary each morning and the recommended exercise prescription. I enjoy the wide range of exercises I am able to track.

This was gifted to me for Christmas. As an upgrade to my VivoActive 4. I thought I would miss the touch screen, and some moments I do, but all of the other features outweigh the rest. It truly is teaching me things I didn’t know and really helps me focus on what matters either in my run or recovery. Not to mention the batter lasts forever!

I'm 6'0 tall and 180lbs, but I self admittedly have dainty wrists. I was torn between buying the regular 255 vs 255s, but went with the 255s and I'm glad I did. Loving the watch so far, great functions, very accurate GPS, and it feels great on my wrist.

Overall I like the watch a great deal. Smarter looking than the 45. Still exploring all the features. I enjoy how it maintains the charge much longer. Some minor constructive critiques: The fonts for the numbers from a run are hard to read since they're small. Perhaps reposition or get rid of some of the less important statistics to open up the screen more. And after the run, don't need to see the two questions about how hard the run was and how satisfying it was. I want to go right to the Save! Can these questions be bypassed?

    Upgrade from 45S

I bought this about a month ago to replace my 45S which had the classic watch band issues (it broke at the attachment point, which I repaired with super glue 2x, but then the opposite side began tearing at the buckle holes, so immanent failure there as well). It is definitely an upgrade. At first glance, the band itself seems more robust; thicker and the attachment points are the traditional bar instead of 2 screws. There are much more options for recording workouts, and it is much better at automatic recording activities. It counts my floors, which the 45 did not. It connects to GPS faster than the 45, and has a longer battery life. However, my ego is a little bruised because it is much more accurate and believable with the estimated fitness age! I am enjoying the added Garmin Coach features, beyond the basic race prep that the 45 offered. The sleep metrics and body battery are also more detailed and offer more suggestions. Overall, very pleased with the upgrade.

I was looking for a watch that tracks my workouts to replace my Apple watch. I didn't want to keep paying for a subscription for the watch, and I really didn't need to use the watch to talk to people or text, email, etc. The Forerunner 255S is really a running watch, but I wanted something that could track a variety of activities and was NOT too expensive. This is it. I like that it also does track where you go. You can't get a map showing you where you are, but after your activity, it does map your route for you. I haven't really looked yet, but you can probably find it in the Garmin app. I did download the app and it's great because now the watch will also let me know of text messages and other updates. I have most turned off. With the Apple Watch, I had to pay extra to get text and other alerts, but this works through the Garmin app on my phone, so no extra subscription fee. Yay! I got the S because I have small wrists, and this fits perfect. There are many choices for watch faces, so you are bound to find one you like. There are so many features and also many ways to customize the watch. I really didn't get into it because all I needed was something that tells time, counts my steps, tracks my cycling, walking, running, martial arts, and swimming. It also has the weather, which is nice, but not a must-have for me. I also like that it tracks my heart rate while I'm exercising. Again, tracking the route is great. It is a coaching watch, but I really don't use it for that. In other words, it will give you tips on the types of runs you should do depending on what you did that day (or didn't do). You kind of have to set that up, and I didn't, because I really didn't want to do the coach feature. Oh, and this one can be used like a remote for my phone, so I can play music on my phone by pressing the button. Speaking of buttons, it's super easy to get into the workouts, which is key, since that's what this watch was made for. Would I buy it again. Absolutely! Very happy with this purchase.

I used to have an Apple watch, but it was getting old and dying too quickly. I decided to upgrade to a Garmin watch because I wanted a watch that was less of an extension of my phone. I absolutely love my Garmin, and I have convinced multiple friends to make the switch. It is great for keeping track of running, skiing, rafting, kayaking, and hiking. I love the running coach option and that there are no subscriptions. The battery life lasts forever (12 days in my experience). The screen is super durable and hard to scratch. I've banged it hard against rocks while whitewater kayaking and it still hasn't scratched! If you are looking for a watch that is focused on health and fitness, not a touch screen, has an incredible battery life, and a built-in running coach, this is the watch for you! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality watch.

Very happy with this model. Super lightweight and low profile, but still great screen visibility and all of the features I'd expect a top training watch to have. No maps and no advanced cycling stats (e.g. normalized power, kJ work) is my only complaint.

This is my second Garmin watch and now I'm on a mission to own them all (maybe someday, Thanos). More discrete option for me compared to my Instinct 2, versatile yet compact and stylish. The fit and the color were a deciding factor. I love the simplicity of having all the data I need, yet the options to zone in to my seasonal hobbies. The accuracy of my outdoor runs and hikes makes the journey that much easier, also the ease of tracking indoor strength training and cardio workouts, doesn't distract from the workout itself.
