Happy Dark Roast Ground Coffee - 12oz

The coffee doesn’t taste bad at all, but it’s hard to be unbiased because I’m so frustrated with the packaging and the misleading advertisement that it is so great. The lid won’t stay on at all, so you have to transfer the coffee to keep it airtight. It’s made of hard plastic, which rarely ends up recycled in reality. Most won’t reuse or repurpose it because of the lid AND the foil seal that hold the coffee in is extremely hard to peel off completely so the average person won’t want to look at it. I bought it because of the association with mental health and I overlooked the actual container content as a result. I can’t stand all of the coffee bags I end up with as it is - when will someone make higher end coffee in metal containers?!?!?!

This is now my go-to coffee! Enjoy my dark roast black and it’s a really flavorful blend. Container keeps it fresh. Also appreciate the NAMI partnership sharing access to a phone number and website for mental health. Thank you for the reminder and support.

This is our favorite morning coffee !!! Everyone can tell if we run out of happy and are forced to brew something different if I don’t get our order placed quick enough! The cold brew cans are fun and delicious, we love them all. Also saw McNeal in NYC and absolutely loved that the theater had Happy cans as their refreshment beverages!!! They were amazing along with the show!

Nice packaging and good coffee, surely better than the generic stuff but nothing special.

I can only speak for myself and my husband, but we did not feel happy when we tried this coffee. We actually felt sad and wanting coffee more than before we tasted this. We made pour over using the same measurements we use with our usual brand of coffee, Cafe du Monde, but instead of rich and robust Happy dazzling dark roast was weak and looked more like tea than coffee. The taste was lacking and disappointing for both of us. We ended up discarding the entire carafe of pour over and remaking with our usual Cafe du Monde.

It's more expensive, but far more enjoyable than anything I've had at home. It's worth considering a little budget reworking.

Tastes better cold... Tastes more like med-dark. Also tastes like community coffee ☕

Very happy with this product. Great taste, fast delivery. A little pricey because of the shipping, but I plan on getting more regardless. We'll worth it.

Bold and smooth. Sleek packaging, I'd call in counterworthy. Fully recyclablable too.

Coffee itself wasn’t super strong for a dark roast, but smooth and balanced. What makes this 5 stars for me was the combo of coffee, packaging, and the company itself. The packaging is cool and witty, and keeps the coffee fresh. I love that the package is a square canister , easily stored and can be recycled, but a really special component was reading about the partnership on the box with Nami ( the National Alliance on Mental Health). I am, admittedly, not a morning person, and I rely on coffee to get going in the a.m. I make my coffee very strong, and this dark roast brews up with a robust but smooth flavor, without bitterness. I enjoyed its nutty and chocolate notes. I prefer dressing up my morning coffee with cream and sugar, but this dark roast is balanced enough to serve black. The coffee comes ground in an interesting cube-shaped package with a light and perky aesthetic. I wasn’t sure about the packaging at first, but I do think the airtight top keeps ground coffee more fresh than bags do, which also helps stave off bitterness. The top seems tricky to open until you notice one corner has a little cutout to help ease it off, and then it's kind of fun to pop it open and enjoy the aroma. I also appreciate that it’s recyclable and sports a mental-health support message from NAMI and points you to the company website for details about its sustainable growers. The dark roast tasted great and I definitely tasted the cocoa and nutty notes in the coffee. It didn’t taste smokey like most dark roasts, but it was rather sweet. It didn’t have a lingering aftertaste and was not acidic. This dark roast was smooth enough that I was able to drink it black and usually I add flavored creamer. I also made this dark roast into an iced coffee and it was equally delicious; an early morning treat! The coffee smelled great when I opened the package and I appreciate how user friendly the packaging is. I really like how the packaging keeps the coffee fresh and it is easy to access (I am used to the bags that you have to fight with that get coffee grounds everywhere). I really like that the Happy coffee is responsibly harvested with information about where it is from. I also really appreciate that this brand is partnering with a mental health organization and giving awareness to help others. Overall, just like the brand name, this coffee made me really Happy!

As a person, who drinks coffee evey day, whether by way of an espresso machine which grinds whole beans or by pre grounded coffee or by purchasing at a café, I must say, Happy Coffee was not too bad. Overall I would say I am happy with Happy. The aroma from the product was compelling upon opening. The coffee was not finely grounded and had a bold enough taste. It wasn’t super bold where it created a dark espresso like other brands, but it was rich enough to enjoy. The dark roast feels more like a medium to dark. I preferred it black than with any creamer. I tried it with hazlenut creamer and french vanilla, but still preferred it black. This coffee is currently my go-to when I am looking for something that isn’t too dark and in need of a coffee without adding calories with creamers and milk. Aside from the above, I loved the packaging. It is not a typical container you would think coffee would come in and that is actually what I like about it. I assume it was packaged in a white container with purple writing to coincidence with the brand name of “happy”. I felt like it looked better in my cabinets than in a tin can, and the fact it was a square container, it made for better organization with other contents in the cabinet. It seals great which preserves the coffee and I am in love with the fact that it is associated/ partnered with NAMI. A cup of Happy in the hand makes you feel like you are supporting something greater than coffee.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently had the opportunity to try this Happy Dazzling Dark Roast Ground Coffee for free as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and I am happily impressed! I love the silky smooth flavor of this coffee, the cocoa note is quite delectable, and I appreciate the richness and full body minus the high acidity, it is definitely very well balanced, unlike some dark roast that I've tried in the past, this dark roast is not overly bitter while conserving those wonderful nutty and chocolate notes which translates to a delicious cup of coffee every time. The packaging is superb, not only aesthetically very attractive but keeps the coffee so fresh, smells like it was just grounded every time I open the canister. Also like the fact that is easy to recycle or repurpose. I will definitely get this again and try the other varieties!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been pleasantly surprised by this coffee that the Stellar Product Testing Panel sent me. I was skeptical because I’m not typically fond of a dark roast, but the Dazzling Dark Roast from Happy products is lighter than most; or maybe it’s because it’s rich in flavor but also smooth, leaving no aftertaste and has maintained its freshness for almost 2 weeks. I like that it comes in a hard rectangular container. Bags always tear and have those bendy closures that come unglued leaving no way to securely close the bag. I will say that taking off the seal under the top was difficult. There was no pull tab and I ended up using a knife and cutting around the entire edge. While this was a bit frustrating, and not a great first impression, I don’t think it would bother me the next time I went to open a new container. The purple writing stands out against the crisp white background and seeing the word “Happy” at the start of your day is a great reminder to be thankful for all you have. I appreciate the partnership with NAMI but that wouldn’t influence my coffee choice. It’s priced quite a bit higher than the coffee I typically buy, but the quality is so much better! I would recommend Happy’s dazzling dark roast to all coffee lovers.

My only critique is the packaging - first, the opening mechanism is challenging and has me worried I’d “explode” the grounds out of the container each time I opened it. Also, the look of the packaging is sort of odd and almost resembles medication or pharmaceutical packaging. Clearly this doesn’t alter the taste of the coffee but I might feel somewhat conspicuous with this packaging in front of guests in our home. I received this coffee as part of a review panel.

However, when the Stellar Product Testing Panel reached out and offered to send me Happy coffee to try, I figured I would give it a fair shot. When I received the coffee, the first thing I noticed was the fantastic container that it comes in. A tastefully designed plastic container with an easy lid that seals nicely and keeps the coffee fresh. This is by far the best coffee packing I have ever seen. Fumbling with bagged coffee is always such a hassle and Happy brands has completely solved that annoyance. As for the coffee itself, to my surprise, I absolutely love it. I prefer a dark roast, which is what I was sent by Stellar. The flavor is bold, but not overpowering. The taste has a bit of smokiness and there is definitely some notes of cocoa. I prepared the coffee in a single serve coffee maker, the same way I have prepared my coffee for years. Admittedly, I was pessimistic before trying it, but now I’m hooked. I love this stuff.
