A: Hi there! That's a great question. Rest Mini requires the app to register the device and get connected. Once connected, you can use Rest Mini to play 8 basic ambient sounds without the app via a top touch button. The Hatch Sleep app allows you to set timers, access additional sounds and content and customize settings for the device. I love the product idea, and we love the subscriber content, but the fact that I’m paying for content that I can’t use is extremely frustrating. The Rest mini is constantly malfunctioning, I have had 3 replacements and all of them do the same thing: randomly change sounds, suddenly shut off for no reason, and change volume without warning. I am very disappointed with the mini and would not spend money on another one.

This Gigi decided on the Mini due to price and it was the mini version of what our daughter has. Unfortunately, after 5 months the mini started acting up and not working properly. Then at 6 months quit working all together. I threw away the box and had to buy the Rest out of desperation for our grandson’s sleepover.

We have always had noise machines for not only the baby but for all in our home. The rest mini does the job. We do the steady waves sound . I do wish there were a few more sounds or some better choices like box fan ( our go to noise) this is purely opinion . The function with the app is helpful but if power goes out or there is a WiFi outage the app has to completely reconnect and must be done manually . We love that it blocks lots of noises like the other kids playing in the next room. Would recommend but go through the noises before buying.

Decent sound - it is a decent sound maker and volume range is good. Limited content - I don't mind subscribing for content, but its limited. Also, you can't play the shorter stories back-to-back, you have to wait for the one to finish, then start the next one, frustrating, especially for stories that are grouped together. Disconnection problems - My first hatch mini, the company replaced, because within minutes of connecting to the app, it would lose connection. The replacement, and my second one, loose connection on a recurring basis, but not as often at the moment.

We have a couple of Hatch Minis and a Hatch Rest+. Overall, liking the mini a lot but wish desperately for two features: One, a lock button that locks the controls, and two, to be able to "delete" or "remove" sounds from the mini on the app. It's very VERY very annoying to have to cycle through all the sounds even though you only ever use one and it just accidentally got bumped. Please, please, please Hatch Gods, hear my plea.

We love our Rest Mini! Customer service is top notch. We had our original rest mini for a few weeks and my son knocked it off of the bedside table, causing the sounds to not work. I contacted Hatch and they sent us a replacement for free!

This sound machine has worked well for us over the last 18 months. Recently, while on vacation, our son slept through a thunderstorm and a malfunctioning fire alarm. He also has slept through two years of 4th of July (and other random holidays) fireworks. I definitely credit this sound machine for this! I do agree with another commenter who said there should be actual buttons. But overall it has functioned well and I would recommend this item.

Our Hatch Rest+ Stopped working while on vacation and we needed a replacement quickly. The buttons would NOT respond to touches until I started adding the device in the rest app, which was pointless as we were not on our home Wifi network. I have no idea why this company decided to forgo physical buttons for these unresponsive touch buttons, the item should work without cloud connections.

Not super thrilled about the micro transactions of the device. The extra purchases after buying was unexpected. Other than that it works fine but the extra cost is a little much. I would probably have just gotten a Bluetooth speaker if I had know about the in app purchases.

I like the space saving design but it works when it feels like it. We constantly had to try and figure out why it stopped working when it was plugged in and connected to WIFI. Just spend a little more for something that works better
