Q: how many quarts does this hold?
submitted by judi - 3 years ago
A: Using dimensions given, simple math equates as 5.5x8.5x12=561cu inches which equals 9.7 quarts. I estimate for my use between 6-8qt. is a good bet.
submitted byBrazer - 3 years agoA: It is better to allow for shape of screen area and have a realistic use of 6qt. It does hold 1 pound of pasta cooked.

Versital companion to my tiny kitchen. Handy for cleaning veg, rinsing canned veg and serving as a quick dish rack. My colander is now a vegetable bowl.

I loved it until the handle broke on me. That sucks because I love kitchenaid.
Not Dishwasher Safe

The product description online says this colander is dishwasher safe; however, upon arrival, the cardboard clearly states “hand wash only.” Very disappointing. I’ll be returning this product unused as a result.

Very useful with over the sink feature, but nit the easiest to clean. I rinse right after use to help avoid dried on foods that are different to cleanoff later.

I love how easy it is to just put it over the sink! I wish they made more than just the mesh strainer so it would be easier to clean.
Starts to rust!

This, unfortunately, begins to rust which then makes the expandable handles impossible to expand or collapse, not to mention unsafe and unhealthy to clean food in. The screws loosen as well and rust up so bad it’s unable to be fixed. Highly disappointed in this purchase especially it being on the pricier side. It was good while it lasted but I’d opt to buy a different material, for sure.

Its a great strainer, but it's godawful to clean. I'm at my wit's end and I can't keep cleaning this dang thing. Its sad because I love Kitchen Aid stuff!
So nice but miserable to clean

Wanted to love this as it’s sturdy and I usually love anything Kitchen Aid. But it’s absolutely miserable to clean or keep clean. Pasta, rice, fruit, anything immediately gets stuck and gunky bc it’s a tight mesh. Design fail.
Just buy something else

Well and cheaply made at the same time. Has rust already on the screws and I’m really just disappointed in this product. I would not recommend buying it. It’s big, hard to store and unfortunately just isn’t built to last. I haven’t even had it one year and I’m trying to get rid of it
This is a great over the sink strainer

I like that is over the sink and doesn't tip like my large stainless steel 3 leg strainer, plus the stainless mesh this has is great for all my needs. Now I can wash and drain anything without the usual mess, since I have limited use of one hand. I recommend this if you can spend the few extra dollars for Kitchen-Aid quality. I just hope it lasts for years being used daily and since I don't have a dishwasher, I will be washing it by hand and drying by hand, before hanging on wall cabinet by sink.
great but still need a regular ribs colander
