[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The finished lantern looks great! Instructions were easy to follow and having parts separated into stages was very helpful. Box says it is recommended for ages 9 and up, but with over 1,000 pieces (lots of very small parts), numerous repetitive patterns, and sometimes delicate assembly, this kit might easily overwhelm a kid working on it alone. This project is best for older children, teens, and adults. The light inside is a great idea but is only in one small part of the lantern and doesn’t project light throughout. Would’ve been 5 stars if the light went all the way through /around the lantern. Overall, a great LEGO kit.

My favorite part of this set is the fact that it lights up and shows a little picture! I can pick it up and move it just fine without feeling like it’s going to break. It currently sits on my kitchen table as a center piece and I love looking at it everyday.

The colorful design captures the spirit of the Year of the Snake perfectly. The LEGO light brick is a fun touch, and the two silhouette window options create beautiful lighting effects. I love that the lantern top and tier open up to reveal festive scenes like a food stall, decoration stall, and shadow theater. The five minifigures: two adults, two children, and a Year of the Snake character are perfect for imaginative play. I agree with other reviewers that some of the steps: e.g. make 8 of these, etc, are a bit tedious. A lot of small pieces that don't fit together too well makes it a challenging build experience. The final piece looks good but I wish LEGO can design it so the image would go around by a motor with the light in the center. That's how I remember how one of these lanterns work when I was a kid.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I will update the pic once we get it fix again. This Lego set is very tedious and annoying. It took my son and I almost 4ish hrs to build as some of the pieces kept coming apart multiple times. Then once it was near to done the bottom part decided to come apart again and messed us all up. So now we have to redo the bottom part. Packaging is very eye engaging as it’s appealing. Safety it’s eh, as I definitely cut around my cuticle trying to take things apart to redo. According to my son if we actually bought this, we would be taking it back and getting another LEGO set. My preteen LOVES legos and for him to say that is something.

I especially love the small details, like the dumpling stand and the light-up feature—because what’s a lantern without a light? The colors are gorgeous, and I appreciate that the doors open and close, making it easy to display or store on a shelf. The instructions were clear, though I do miss the older style where each piece’s placement was highlighted—it made assembly a bit easier. Overall, this is a fantastic addition to my Lego wall!

I got this for my son to build. He is 6. This has amazing detail. He loved the spinning projector light and the fact that you can change it out in to another image. It was amazing to see the finished piece open up in to separate rooms. It took him an afternoon to finish but he was happy to play with it afterward for a while. It made a beautiful decorative piece next to the fan for the Lunar New Year. This is one that we will save and take out again next year.

I loved this set, I did not notice before I bought there was a led lego in the kit. There is a spinning light to project a small image inside which was a nice touch! Loved the little figurines and touches… my bf especially liked the snake hat.

I really enjoyed building this Chinese New Year Lego. I love the colors and style. The light on the inside shines perfectly on the windows to show through. Keep up the great work Lego

It was very fun to build. The only downfall is that it is supposed to represent the 'Year of the Snake' but there was only one picture of a snake, which was a small one. Otherwise, it is very colorful and pretty.

Very entertaining to build. I'll be honest was sold as soon as I saw the year of the snake helmet. I enjoyed modifying the three included stands with my extras. Made an extra shadow puppet holder. Was able to give the dumpling stand better upright stability with a dowel piece and two of the new gold hooks. I like the light brick, only wish better stability in spinning as seems to come loose easily. Real fun set!

I bought this LEGO set for Chinese New Year. At first, I thought the lantern would be really pretty. However, after building it, I found that it looks quite cheap. Moreover, the top part (or lid) is simply placed on top without any bricks connecting it to the second level, making it unstable.

OMG this is such a great set that I can't wait a single second after I finished to write this review. A couple things that made this a great set: Regardless of the theme, this is a well built, neat set that does not take up a lot of space. Very fun to play with including the lighting and characters and multiple layers. Very well assembled and stable. The whole experience is great and reminds me of some of the best reviewed Creator Expert sets. I enjoyed every minute building this set, even through some of the 8* repetitive elements (a very Zen experience that is also Asian culture). This is one of the sets that kept you wanting to know what's going to happen next. From a Asian, especially Chinese perspective, this is a very well thought set that kept reminding you of different pieces of Chinese culture. A lot of 8* pieces and 8 is a lucky number for good fortune in China. The color scheme is really traditional Chinese color including red, yellow, gold and different shades of blue. The roof portion is a combination of circle and square where circle pieces may end up combine into square pieces, which corresponds to the "land square sky circle" concept. Putting up lanterns is the final step, which just make the whole process seemed more meaningful. I've had experience with a couple New Year sets already, and I have to say that this is the most well thought New Year set that I've put together so far. Many thanks to the designer who actually give thoughts into Chinese architect and culture. Such a great experience.

Excellent building experience, beautiful product. Charming touches such as goddess flying with Lego space guy; very nuanced faces on figures. Just gorgeous.
