Purchased this set earlier this year and I have to say I was really really disappointed. Firstly, I had a ton of missing pieces, therefore I was unable to complete the side panels (which are so flimsy it's not even funny) secondly, the build..oh my word it's not fun at all, it is so flimsy it literally falls apart when you pick it up and assemble. The wings only stay in one postion as they are so heavy they are weighed down. And then it got broke in which a few pieces sheered and therefore was unable to rebuild. I have never ever been so annoyed with a set, I've binned it and this has put me off buying future UCS sets. I wish I rewd reviews before shelling put for this.

This set is a flimsy piece of trash

First of all, this set completely lacks any technic, when I was building the wings, the internal parts of the set started breaking due to the lack of sturdiness. Not to mention, the color of the nose is completely off and I encountered at least 3 missing pieces. The set itself doesn't even look that good the stand keeps breaking. I have built the Tie Interceptor UCS and the Republic Gunship UCS before and have never encountered any building problems. I am extremely disappointed, to say the least.

I had such a frustrating time building this. as it sits on my shelf at the moment i won't even touch it at all as the slightest movement will cause it to fall apart. the wings are not properly supported so they droop and the side panels on the rear are not stable at all. it constantly falls apart, very disappointed.

The look of the model is great but the build was frustrating. Most of the fuselage panels are only held by a couple of hinged studs which are prone to disconnect and any attempt to fix usually causes another section to fall off.

Don’t understand all the hate for this set and the 3.1 stars! This really is a nice set to have for the collection, the overall aesthetic of it is awesome and I’m glad I have it. This is my first UCS set, the experience definitely meets the standards in my books. Only problem I had was with the build, the technic mechanism that allows the wings to open and close was a bit difficult for me. Besides that, I’m glad I have this iconic starfighter.

    Fragile and flimsy

Overall, this was probably my least favorite set I've built due to the how flimsy various parts are and how fragile this is. My biggest complaint is the side panels around the body and cockpit. The larger pair of the two repeatedly broke while attempting to place them on the body and the two anchor points definitely don't feel sturdy enough. The wing mechanism also feels extremely under built for the weight of the wings and is easy to go past the stopping point which required disassembly to fix. Small complaint but the gun barrels have a gap between the white and blue spacers because the rods are too long. This was also the first set in my life that had missing parts. This set was nerve wracking the entire build due to how fragile it is and manipulating various parts into place made it feel like the entire thing would fall apart. Once the set it complete it will only be good as a display piece that I'm afraid to move around unfortunately.

I was very excited about this purchase. It was a reward for me. The detail is very good! What is not good is the very minimal and poor connections for the long side pieces. There are several opportunities for connections but none were taken. These side pieces will almost fall off if you look at them too hard. LOL! I have constructed several Lego sets and this is such a disappointment. If you want this set just understand that it is to look at only. I moved it a few times and parts fell off during two of the moves, and I am very careful! Had I known what I know now I would have passed this one up!

As a person who built room full of lego ranging from star wars, marvel, cars, buildings, small and big project, technic, i have shirts of Lego- a big fan of Lego- the xwing has been the most frustrating piece of lego i ever built. It stood on the table for over two months waiting to be put together because the patience to deal with poor design (putting together, not visually) and the will werent there. A lot of pieces are flimsy, you push one in, the other one falls out because pieces are holding onto just a few "dots/stubs" (not sure the proper name) on another lego. The nose of the x wing is more likely to fall apart than hold together (after i checked it a few times for a mistake in case i put it together wrong).... i got the feeling that it is cheap and that that it needed to be done with as little as possible parts, because what used to be sturdy and "secure" in older lego builds, where even if you dropped it- it would hold together.... its not the case with this one. Hopefully not all new lego series will be this poor and frustrating. Just a few pics uploaded because i didnt take too many, but hope you get the point.

One the most frustrating builds I ever done this set is only a set I would recommend as a viewing the most fragile set I ever built when attaching parts others fell off it’s a great looking piece to view at the end the build like a piece of art very satisfying to see at end from all the hassle of reattaching parts as they fall off. Also it really only stays in attack mode when built with wings spread from the weight.Just so you know what your getting into.

    Missing pieces, weak mechanism

The end product is amazing and very impressive, but the wing mechanism is so weak and finicky. Turning the knob is not satisfying at all and seams to work half the time. Not to mention you guys have me multiple wrong and missing pieces. The set didn’t even include the pieces for part of the stand and gave me multiple wrong size tile pieces for the side plating. Not happy with the building process.

I purchased this x-wing after reading the reviews about the side panels falling off. I should have heeded the warnings. The side panels around the wing mounts do not stay on due to a poor design. Any time i move it it just falls apart in my hand. I purchased an aftermarket stand that I can't even use because the x-wing falls apart while I try to mount it. I have been building lego for decades and this is by far the most fragile set i ever owned.

I almost didn't get this ser due to the low rating and negative reviews. I'm so glad I did. Yes, the wings are a bit temperamental, but if you adjust carefully, they work as expected. I had no issues with the model coming apart, and the build was rewarding. A beautiful addition to my sets. Highly recommended.

The UCS X-WING is stunning! It was challenging at times to build as the side panels can come off easily but once you get them on you are fine. A lot of complaints about the sturdiness but it’s not bad it’s just challenging to build at times but totally doable and all apart of the experience. Definitely buy it! It looks so cool in person!!

This build is an interesting one. Just the body of the ship is substantial and dense, you can tell it can take a hit or two. The wings on the other hand… I appreciate what they did and how they did it. The mechanism is simple yet effective but the actual wings are completely unstable and WILL break eventually if you actually use it. I rebuilt it just to make sure I didn’t mess up anything but the wings would not want to reliably stay on.

    My first UCS set

This is my first UCS set and I thoroughly enjoyed building it. I haven't had any parts fall off and I have moved it around quite a bit. I changed the stand slightly, as I have it displayed on a high shelf, so I turned the stand around and have it displayed sideways. I knew the set was going to be big, but it really is BIG. The wings can be opened to attack position and locked like that, which is a nice touch. There is some really nice part usage in there.

This set forced me to sin

My girlfriend got me this set for Christmas. The first few steps of the build are very solid and the main chassis feels very solid. The wing mechanism, while smart, is not strong enough for the weight of the wings. It uses 2 rubber bands that are simply too weak, making the set look very goofy if not in its attack configuration. The side panels of the fuselage are where the set litteraly falls apart. After 2 hours of trying, we were never able to place both panels at the same time. The choice of bricks used to hold those things together is absolutely baffling. A total of 4 studs to hold a diagonal 12 inch piece is ridiculous. After 2 hours, we decided to commit the worst act of our Lego career: Using glue. It felt horrible. I’ve never felt dirtier in my entire life. At least I can actually pick it up now. Also, Luke can not sit in the ship. The minifig, while very detailed, is too tall and the cockpit won’t close (and there are no studs on the seat to hold him). Last things, We were missing 4 pieces for the stands. Ironically, they’re the pieces that everyone complains about because they keep breaking apparently. Maybe we dodged a bullet. Anyways, overall very disappointed in this set. It was my very first UCS set and from now on I will thoroughly research every set before I buy. It looks good tho.

First of all, I was missing a piece on the stand. However, knowing lego’s reputation, I expect to have it replaced since it wasn’t on the actual fighter, but on the stand. I’m a 32 year old and this is my second Lego set I’ve ever built. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and saw this after watching the original trilogy on tv over Christmas and I had to get it. The flimsiness comments are from either people that try to speed build or don’t know how to follow directions. It’s a model for 18+, so if you’re playing with a model as an 18 year old, you may need to reevaluate your situation. If your kid wants to play with it, don’t let them, there are instructions at the front of the manual on how to hold the model correctly. Again, follow instructions and panels won’t fall off as others have said. Kind of funny seeing Lego snobs complain about this, clear indication they just speed build their sets. It’s a beautiful set and the engineering on it is amazing. Kudos to Lego designers, don’t know how they do this stuff.
