Q: Many reviews love your product , however , on the same note, complain the base leaks and/or developes cracks at the bottom of unit within a year of use. Has this been addressed by Life straw ?

Q: You mentioned that it removes microplastics but the pitcher itself is made of plastic so how is that possible?

submitted by Gilda - 7 months ago
  • A: Hi Gilda, Thank you for the email. We share your concerns about microplastics in our water, and take their presence and removal seriously. Microplastics are defined as plastic particulate 1 μm and 1000 μm in size. They can be intentionally made for specific uses, like microbeads in cosmetics, or from when larger plastic items break down due to weathering, material breakage, or mechanical forces. Additionally, microplastics can originate from synthetic fibers shedding off textiles during washing and use. The pitchers and housing are made of durable plastic materials that do not break down with normal use or time, and do not contribute to microplastic particulate in your water. All materials are also BPA-free and approved and verified for water contact. We also try to ensure we are responsible at manufacturing stages to limit waste when and where possible. Our LifeStraw membrane microfilters are made of Polysulfone, a high-performance thermoplastic that's tough and safe. It maintains its strength even in high temperatures, ensuring safe and reliable filtration. Thus, our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage at the normal temperature condition. The LifeStraw membrane microfilter is specifically designed to remove microplastic particles from drinking water. Through rigorous testing, we've confirmed that our filters block an impressive 99.999% of 1µm microplastic particulates in water. The high rate of reduction efficacy shows that our LS Home product do not add microplastics to the filtered water, and confirms our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage. We have recently posted a blog on this subject at our site. I recommend reviewing it for more information about the emerging science and how our products fit into the conversation: https://lifestraw.com/blogs/news/filtering-microplastics-and-nanoplastics-from-drinking-water Thank you for reaching out and please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We're happy to help.

submitted by LJ - 9 months ago
  • A: Thanks for your question! Your are eventually going to need replacement filters for the membrane microfilter lasts 264 gallons (1 year) and the activated carbon + ion exchange filter lasts 40 gallons (2 months).

I am pleased with the glass pitcher. It is sturdy, lightweight, and easy to clean. I have a well so the plastic Brita pitcher was hopelessly mineral stained and would not come clean. Plus, the less plastic I use, the better. Well played LifeStraw.

Leaks

I’m on my second pitcher. The first started leaking so I ordered a new one thinking it was just old. Nope. Second one is leaking with no cracks anywhere. I can’t switch to the glass pitcher because I have three young kids who use it too. I love the filter because the water tastes good, but I’m probably going to cancel my subscription and get the new Brita that filters microplastics.

Glass pitcher review

Like the glass pitcher and silicone bottom. A bit tall for my fridge, but took out a shelf in my tiny built in one. Takes a bit to set up, but not that bad. The top to fill is a bit different, but works now that I figured it out. Very happy to be converting from water in plastic bottles and to lessen plastic in my life. Getting the dispenser for my camper!

I cannot blame but myself

I cannot blame but myself for buying a pitcher which doens’t answer to the criteria. The fact that the bottom of the pitcher is not made of glass wasn’t’ not mentioned on the advertisement (or if it was, it escaped me) and, as a result, the pitcher doesn’t serve the goal it was supposed to serve: replace the plastic pitcher I have used for several years before. If you know of an entirely glass pitcher allowing the filtering of water, please share with me.

Water doesn’t come out in a steady stream, leaks very easy. Something about it isn’t secure because this is my second one. Otherwise, good taste and no other complaints.

I absolutely LOVE this pitcher. I had a glass pitcher before, and switched to the glass. I am a designer, and needed a visually appealing pitcher to keep out on my countertop, and this is the ONLY well designed pitcher on the market. Thank you Life Straw.

I try to drink a lot of water throughout the day at my job. It started to bother me a bit how much tap water I was drinking. I realize how silly that may sound as it is already safe to drink. However, I get weirded out by the idea of microplastics (if there are any). I love this pitcher! It is a good size and doesn’t take up too much room in my cabinet. I fill it when I need to. The taste of the water is great! 100% satisfied.

This pitcher is the thing I use most in my kitchen. I got one as a gift a few years ago and I loved it! I dropped it and it broke not too long ago and I ordered another the same day. Awesome filter and the water tastes great every time.

Good water, bad design

Beautiful and great tasting water but poor design. Heavy and hard to pour. Filter home is suctioned in too hard to remove , and keeping it in creates a dewey area that looks like it will mildew quickly. I have to keep the filter home out of the pitcher at all times so it won’t mildew . I just filter some water by lightly placing the filter home in the pitcher, let it filter and then take it out. Very disappointing, and I’m only keeping it because the water tastes good
