Q: The packaging says a refill lasts up to 2 months, but says it only holds 14 days of soiled litter. Can someone explain the difference? Which is it?

A: The refill is a continuous bag that you when it gets full. Meaning that the bag will typically get full around 14 days. But the continue bag lasts about 2 months.

Q: Are branded bags required or can I use generic plastic trash bags?

A: Regular trash bags are not made to fit the shape of our pails so it's difficult to confirm if they could work. Litter Genie refills are made with a multi-layer film with odor-locking barrier technology that prevents odor from escaping the pail, plus they are specifically designed fit Litter Genie systems perfectly. For best experience and odor control, we recommend you use the Litter Genie cartridge and odor-locking bags.

Just tuck the trash bag in the cartridge to secure it, and voila! It not as seamless as the branded bags but that's the DIY gamble we take to save some $ :)

A: We’ve removed the springs from all Litter Genie pails after noticing that the slider was more difficult to open for people with reduced mobility. By removing the springs, we’ve made it easier to use the pail with one hand, allowing for a smooth disposal process without needing to apply extra force to keep the slider open. We hope that helps!

I bought my genie years ago and added a second one more recently. I love the concept of the litter gene and use it daily. It is not without issue, however. . . The lid on both my units came off repeatedly before the connection snapped. I am not sure why it isn't attached better since litter and the like is sure to get jammed in any crevice to eventually push the lid totally off. The area where you put the litter, that also locks the refill into place and has to be lifted by hand to refill, gets so disgusting and suffers deed gouges from the all the friction from dumping litter clumps in. It also jams and can be very difficult and painful to open in order to refill it as well. . .perhaps for that same litter in the groves and crevices issue. Refills are very expensive and are now quite difficult to find available. Why aren't there more available in retail to support all the purchases? Also, New versions' refills are not compatible with the original. I would love to see an updated version with cross compatibility. Last, but most definitely not least, the portion that gets pulled out to allow the litter to dump into the "sealed" body loosens up with time and eventually doesn't quite touch the other side of the unit or return to its proper position and smells sneak out.

I had to replace my old litter genie which was spring loaded so it truly formed a tight seal where you could not smell the contents at all. This model isn’t spring loaded so there is a small gap where the odour escapes. I’m very disappointed with the new model the old model was much better.

TLDR: litter genie & the generic bag refills are worth it for multi-cat households, especially those who scoop multiple times a day! If you have multiple cats (and especially multiple litter boxes) and are debating if the litter genie is worth it: YES IT IS. I have 3 cats sharing 2 litter boxes, so I scoop twice a day and didn’t want to take multiple bags down to the dumpster each day. This system easily holds a week’s worth of waste for my household, saving me multiple trips. And yes, the bag refills are worth it too, even the generic ones. I jerry rigged regular trash bags into the system for awhile and they technically work, but they don’t hold the smell at all. The litter genie & off brand bag refills actually contain the smell for at least a week, so they’re worth buying. The generic jumbo refills from target do fit in this system & last me quite awhile. I think the first refill I got when I purchased the litter genie lasted at least 6 weeks for my 3-cat household, so the generic ones are cost efficient for my needs.

I was wondering why it was only $20. The part that you pull out, to let the waste drop down, is not spring loaded like the one i already have. Spend the extra money and buy somewhere else, so you can get the spring loaded one. This does not seal as well as the spring loaded once.

When you live in an apartment, you need to contain litter box smell. This contains the smell for weeks at a time. After a few weeks it does start to smell a bit, but it's time to dump everything out and change the litter at that time anyway. I use regular trash bags. Don't waste your money on the refills - trash bags work just as well and are (much) cheaper.

This is an awesome disposal system. This disposal system is perfect for us as we can clean her cat litter more often and have an easier more convenient place to dispose. It was becoming a little harder for me as my cat is a clean freak; this is perfect for me. I store the container in the garage and carry it inside when I’m ready to clean the litter box.

the top isn’t big enough for the scoop to go through so it gets litter and smudges all over the lid. i don’t think the piece of plastic that closes the bag off worked on the litter genie i received because the flies laid eggs inside the genie whilst it should’ve been “sealed”. and because of it not fully sealing, it didn’t conceal any litter smells. also replacement bags are overpriced ($20+) and is the same price as the original product ($20).

I ended up scraping my hand trying to get all the items out. It is cheap and doesn't close all the way (either broken or defective) and didn't work at all. I'm better off just scooping clumps into trash bags and throwing it out. I also don't like how you have to buy overpriced bags becuase normal bags won't work with it.

This product was great, until it stopped working. I have 2 cats and it saved me from having to make daily trips to the garbage can. It prevented odor and I was able to by a cheaper bag refill on Amazon. After a few months, the latch on the front broke, so I can’t use it anymore. Such a bummer!

Already have 2, but just got 2 kittens. Really like the Litter Genie. The more recent models are less solid than the previous ones, and it's difficult to line up the top half with the bottom to latch them together.
