    Ring is better

Ring night vision is exponentially better. This doorbell pixelizes badly in low light situations with a ton of digital noise. It also has a very narrow vertical aspect ratio that I do not like.

Hands down it beats our old doorbell camera. Picture is sharp and clear even when magnified. Installation was so simple. Great product. Looking forward to replacing and adding more of your 4K cameras to our security system.

Better than nothing if you are tech savy

I like the ability to save recordings locally unlike Ring where you need to pay to save on the cloud. You may have the ability to see a full body view but in live view you see a lot of the sky. Ring shows more side to side which gives you wider view. The resolution was less than I expected. Since I installed it about six months ago, I have received two false doorbell rings. I think both times it happened when it was raining lightly. I have also had three times the doorbell went offline. I am not too happy that I have to reset it each time.

It works great in both day and night light. It does give an error warning quite a bit, but resolves if you close the app and reopen it.

    Lorex vs Ring

I purchased a Lorex camera and doorbell to replace my existing Ring camera and doorbell, Ring charges a monthly fee. I have not replaced the Ring Doorbell with the Lorex Doorbell because I can't view video using my laptop, you can only view video using an app. on your phone.

You need to offer additional angle mounts as option. I used both supplied with doorbell and still I cannot obtain enough angle from wall to clear arch doorway and obtain full field of view. There are no 3rd party mounts available.

Great doorbell if it wasn’t a vertical video forma

    2 out of 5 stars
    Jesse - 2 months ago

The doorbell itself seems well made, and the video quality is very good. However the vertical video format sucks as I can’t even see my entire 4ft wide entry. My other big gripe and why it’s only 2 stars is that if you hook it up to a NVR it stretches the video extremely wide because the NVR doesn’t support the 4k vertical native resolution of the doorbell. So it’s basically useless as the video is stretched from a vertical format to a Wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

Great resolution, but needs some work

The vehicle and person recognition functions are hit or miss. I’m also disappointed with the ability to adjust lighting. Since the camera is under a porch overhang the person at the door is always dark. The camera exposes for the bright background. Even at night, the light from the camera points down, not illuminating the person. Resolution is excellent - just not where I need it. As with all systems, response time is totally dependent on network speed, but there is usually a lag on notifications and the doorbell chime.

Connection issues upon connection issues. Anyone’s guess if when I press to see the live or recorded content it will actual open. The lag from when the the door bell rings and my phone rings can be over a minute.

    Constantly disconnecting from system

Constantly losing connection, which ultimately requires removing the camera from your account and reinstalling it as a “new camera”. I’ve had the camera system for about 9 months, and it has occurred approximately 5 or 6 times. Also, the lock to secure the doorbell to the bracket is not good. You can easily remove the doorbell from the bracket without the security pin/key. Lorex sent me a new bracket, but it’s the same as the old one.

    Decent

Overall a decent system. Cameras are very sturdy and well made. The NVR interface is ok and could certainly use some modernization. The smart AI detections are filled with errors and trigger too many false alerts while also not activating when it should. There is no predicting its behavior. Motion detection is also problematic it can detect a dust particle but not a person or car. The dual lens cameras are an excellent improvement over older PTZ cameras.

    View is too narrow

    3 out of 5 stars
    Marco - 3 months ago

I love that it works with my Lorex app and I don't have to pay a subscription just to see events. I have other Lorex security cameras and have been using Lorex a few years now. The major issue here is that the viewing angle is too narrow. This narrow lens doesn't even see in front of my door. With the ring that I was replacing, I could see a much wider view, from the wall right of my door all the way to the front of my driveway on the left of the camera view. No blind spot to the entryway with the old ring, but the image quality was horrible. This 4k Lorex has a great image quality and boasts a head to toe view, but honestly is no taller than my 1st generation ring and is so significantly narrower I just don't know if I want to keep it. I may try the 2K Lorex doorbell, since I've read reviews saying it has a wider view. I may lose some features and not have as clear an image, but what use is a clear image that can't see wide enough to cover my door? I literally disappear from the camera if I side step from my doorbell to stand in front of my door and just knock. Literally the first and only time I've had regrets with a purchase on my Lorex security cameras. Maybe I was spoiled by my super wide ring camera view? But I do just expect to see a wider shot from my doorbell cameras. Screenshots of my old camera wide view and the new Lorex 4k significantly more narrow view.
