Melissa & Doug Let's Explore Sailboat Play Set

I’m really disappointed in this toy. Based off of the reputation of Melissa and Doug toys and my own positive experiences with many of their toys, I’m truly shocked by how cheap the materials are and how poorly designed this particular toy is. The pieces that hold the structure together aren’t shaped properly, so they bend and break during assembly. The parts themselves are flimsy and the fabric seems like it could be very easily torn. I’m unsurprised by the negative reviews from other parents saying that it broke the first time it was played with or shortly there after. If it can’t even be assembled without breaking, how could it possibly withstand a child playing in it? I’ve never had an issue with quality or ease of use or safety with a Melissa and Doug product, and I’ve run into all of those issues with this toy. I’m sorry to say they really missed the mark on this one, and I highly suggest they try again. The concept is great. The execution needs major improvement.

Bought this for my grandson who has parents that race their J-105 sailboat in San Francisco Bay. He just loves it. Even put it in his bedroom the first night. He named his boat "Blackhawk" after his real boat! His parents also like it very much.

This boat falls apart as soon as your kids sit in it . I keep putting it back together but as soon as they try and play in it the boat starts to come undone. Not worth the cost. I never writer reviews for anything but I hope I can keep another mom from spending money on this poorly made toy.

Very cute toy. My package did not include instructions. Disappointed that the assembly instructions seem to be missing in this site as well! Why aren't the supports that fit into curved connection slots also curved??

From pretending to be pirates to the octonaunts my boys(3 &5) crossed the seven seas until we had to take it down so that we could have room for a large play date. It's relatively sturdy but my boys had to have their ship "repaired" several times. If you have boys that rough house this is probably not the toy for you.

Both my 3 and 5 year old were able to play in it together. Ours did tear at a seam after a few plays. But I think I will be able to fix it. It is a fantastic toy for imaginary play!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Melissa & Doug Lex Explorer Sailboat Playset for free through BuzzAgent in exchange for an honest review. My 3 year old daughter was excited when she saw the box for the boat. I told her we could set it up and we began the process of unboxing. Once I pulled the product out of the box, I noticed there was an excess of packaging for the amount of actually inside. I proceeded to take out the directions and make sure I had all of the pieces. It appeared we were missing two clips which likely help hold the sail in place. I'm not exactly sure what those pieces were since I did not have them. I decided to set up the boat without them. What I assumed would only take me 5 minutes to set up, seemed to almost take me 20. I had trouble with the plastic slats and with attaching the corner pieces. They do not want to stay together. When I finally finished I was not impressed. However my daughter was excited to hop into the boat! She played for a little while but it wasn't long before she asked me to join her. Now obviously this is made for a child So I would not fit in there. But even though my daughter is of average height for her age, I do not think that another child could safely fit in there. All in all, the Melissa & Doug Let's Explore Sailboat Playset is a cute idea with poor execution. The trouble with missing parts and keeping the pieces attached in addition to the lack of room in the boat keeps the product from having a lasting play effect.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If your child is into ships & sailing this is the perfect toy for you. My little ones are 18mo & 3yrs and they both fit in this boat together. It's very easy to put together, I was able to assemble it in less than 5 minutes and it packs up into a bag for easy storage so it's super easy to set up & take down to store in its little bag. I also love that ot doesn't take up much space when broken down.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This toy has been a big hit in our home since we opened the box. Our 3 year old daughter is just starting to really get into pretend play and this is her favorite toy lately. She plays with it daily! This sailboat doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but that's why it's a good toy for pretend play. The sailboat is a great size for up to two preschool aged children or a child, like ours, with ALL of their dolls and stuffed animals. It has a sail that can move and be velcro'd to either side of the boat. The foam rudder moves left to right. The foam anchor can also detach and be velcro'd to either side of the boat. The boat consists of fabric, poles, and connectors and is put together similarly to a tent. In terms of sturdiness, it's plenty sturdy for children that are older and have good balance. The walls of the boat are fabric and not meant to support the weight of a child if a child leans or falls on it or attempts to sit on it. The sailboat does take up a quite a bit of space - I definitely suggest checking the dimensions before you buy! Overall, it's a really cute toy targeted toward young children that are creative and REALLY love to play pretend. As a parent, I *especially* love that it doesn't move around or make noise! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Melissa and Doug's let's explore sailboat play set is a solid product. It came in an organized box with easy to follow directions. It took about ten minutes to put together. My daughter enjoyed getting in and out of the sailboat. My only complaint would be that it's a little flimsy and takes up some space. We have started to use it to store some toys in to help keep our living room organized. My daughter doesn't play too much with it at this point but goes through phases so we still have it out as an option. It comes with a small storage bag to keep all the pieces together though when it is time to pack up.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 3 year old was so excited to receive our playset, she insisted we open it and put it together right away. The product comes well packed in a travel bag for easy storage with simple instructions for assembly. It didn't take long to put together and after the first run through I don't think the instructions will even be needed (which is good because we misplaced those, lol). The sailboat is sturdy and would be even more fun filled with ball put balls, although it's fairly small so there's not much room for diving around in it. The sail is repositionable and stays in place with Velcro, there is also a Velcro attached anchor and a rudder that hangs over the back. My daughter lost interest in it after the first day but that is my mistake for choosing a product that wasn't exactly within her interests (she's very much a girly girl into things that are more typically considered "girly"). I will be passing it along to a friend who I know will enjoy it for playtime. I would rate it more like 3.5 stars if that were possible. My only reason for this rating is that I do not believe it is worth the current price it retails for and the fact that it's smaller than I had imagined (I don't think more than one child can comfortably fit in it to play but kids are imaginative, they will figure out how to play together with it lol)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this boat for my 3 year old son. It was easy and quick to put together and my son has had fun playing in it, however the sides do come apart fairly easily. Great toy for the littles imagination, just wish it stayed together better.

The quality is good but feel like it could be better. Putting it together there was a piece that was a bit difficult to put together that it tore. Otherwise I would recommend.
