I have used MG products for years. When I went to go use this bag today, I opened it to discover all kinds of literal garbage in our bag of soil. Broken glass, shredded plastic, huge rocks- I can’t even believe it.

I feel like this was dug out of a garbage dump! I have never had glass in soil mix before but most of the 12 bags I opened had huge rocks, pieces of glass, rope, hard plastic, plastic bag pieces, I get that there is compost and little soil but there is a bunch of garbage mixed in.

Unsafe for food or even plants.

Bought 6 bags last week. All full of trash and large wood chips. The soil has endless chunks of rubber, shredded plastic bag pieces, hard white plastic pieces, painted wood pieces, etc. And it also has tons of large wood chips. This is for vegetables but its obviously unsafe for food. I’m very angry about this garbage that clearly came from a landfill.

Bought 6 bags for my container garden. First bag was full of cut worms. No joke. Bag #2 had All kinds of roots with green leaves already started in the bag. It was nasty looking mess. I haven’t used the other 4 bags yet. Very disappointed with this purchase and will not repeat it in the future. I had just spent several hours removing old soil from a planter box and had treated it with corn meal in kill the cut worms that were in the old soil. When the new bag was put in I picked out at least a dozen new cut worms that were in the new bag. It looked as if I had dug soil out of my own yard.

Did not work as advertised and tons of weeds, I bought this for my container garden for the back yard. Only about half the plants survived and all of them had bunched of weeds. I used new seeds and no other soils and planted indoors early and had awesome starters until I moved them to the miracle-gro garden soil for vegetables and herbs. My herb and most of my vegetable crow was rtuined this year. 10 bags of this stuff, ugg, never again - You should make this right Miracle-Gro

Garder Soul????? NOT. Ground cover, possible.

Bought 6 bags. No way in Hxxxx you can call this a "Garder Soil." Much less beer for "herbs and vegetables." You need to call the a Ground Cover or Mulch. Has absolutely NO neutrally value for plants. Everything I planted in a raised bed has stunted growth.. No way a Soul, Ground cover, YES. Not HAPPY AT ALL.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Miracle-Gro Garden Soil Vegetables & Herbs and appreciate your feedback. While small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media including potting soil, garden soil, lawn soil, and topsoil, you should not find large pieces of wood or bark. Most of our soils especially potting mixes and garden soils are made of composted forest products and contain very little if any actual soil. Composted forest products provide high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction. The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-295-6902 if we can further assist.

More bark than soil

I bought a huge bag and mostly bark. It's not the Miracle-Gro I bought in the past. My friends & I all have noticed a change in this product. I've gone out and bought another bag but this time a cheaper bag & my vegetables are doing better in their pots in the cheaper brand soil. Pamela

Advertised as garden soil, but it has tree bark and a lot of other non-soil fillers in it. Very poor quality soil for the price that you pay.

Full of weed seeds

I bought 70 bags of Garden Soil to fill newly built raised beds. After letting the soil settle, I returned to start planting in them. I found two of the raised beds full of weed seeds. The other beds had a handful of weeds, which I can accept. But the numerous weeds I found in the two beds I was not happy picking.
1 reply from Customer Care team - 2 years ago
We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Miracle-Gro Garden Soil Vegetables & Herbs and appreciate your feedback. Soil and compost naturally contain plant seeds. It has not been sterilized and we make no claims that it has been. While the composting process does destroy most of the weed seeds in our soils, there still can be some viable weed seeds after composting. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 877-220-3089 if we can further assist.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used as a adder on top of existing soil , top three inches mixed in, in my raised garden area. Helps plants get a good start on the season. Then at end of season just turn under for next year. Have also just cut bag open and planted veggies like cucumbers, green beans, melons, right in bag for season when run out of room.

I Purchased six bags of this product in Pennsylvania for a small tomato garden,And six bags of this product in Florida for a small tomato garden there too. Both gardens turn to small sticks, sort of like mulch. There is no soil. I’m very disappointed because it wasn’t cheap. I will never buy this again

Horrible... Full of Huge Woodchips

1 out of 5 stars
Sherry - 3 years ago

Purchased this to fill raised garden beds. It is worthless. Nothing but huge chunks of woodchips and shredded wood that is not in the least bit composted. It doesn't look much different than wood mulch. There is no soil whatsoever in this trash. My boyfriend had already filled some containers with the one bag, and too hard to get back in bag, so I will eat the cost of that bag, but return the other for refund and purchase something else to fill raised beds.

Very Disappointing

This is not what we would expect from Miracle Gro. We have used their products over the years, but this is so disappointing. We purchased 15 bags for our new garden and it is dry, very little soil and tons of wood shavings. It smelled like mold and appeared to have mold in the bags. Not the rich beautiful product we have been accustomed to using. I would not recommend.

Me and my 12 year old son found glass in our bag of soil, I'm not happy at all if my son had grabbed that piece of glass and cut himself, he no longer wants to help me in the garden. But I assured him that this soil will go into the trash and will be going to our local co-op instead. Come on you guys need to do better. Very dissatisfied

varying quality

Michelle - 3 years ago

I recently bought 7 bags of this over the past month. The first two bags were okay, the remaining bags appeared to be mostly used mulch, with pieces of sticks up to 1/2" diameter and 4 inches long, bark, and other hard plant materials. This is not great for many types of vegetables, especially root vegetables such as carrots, because it causes deformed or split roots. There appeared to be very little what I would call dirt--the sand/silt/clay components that I think of as the basis for good soil, along with very fine organic matter. I would love to have a product that is just plain good quality clean dirt.
