++ Love the ease of use - light up sensor, timer and will shut off after 2 min has passed. - - I have also used Sonicare, similar quality but Sonicare is more affordable. Sonicare is also more similar to a standard toothbrush head which is easier to angle/contour toward the gums without being too aggressive.

If we could give Oral-B IO electric toothbrushes zero stars, we would! We bought two brushes, and one of them stopped working within a month. We had to contact Oral-B for a refund, wait for a return label, and then buy packing tape and a box to send it back to them. We are still waiting for our refund. This has been a huge waste of time. Our second toothbrush stopped charging last night, so it lasted only 1.5 months. We contacted Oral-B again, and this is what they told us: "Our 60-day money-back guarantee is limited to one refund per name, household, or address. We can, however, assist with the process of sending the brush to one of our service centers to get it back in working order." So, we can't get a refund for our second toothbrush because their 60-day policy only allows for one return per address! This is ridiculous! Two toothbrushes stopped charging or working within 1.5 months! We will never purchase from Oral-B again! Also, be sure to read reviews carefully—most of them received the product for free in exchange for a review!

We're so sorry to hear your toothbrushes have stopped working, and that one had mold on it. Please know, we have many quality checks in place to ensure only the best products reach you, so your experience isn't what we'd expect. While very rare, this can occur if the brush is stored in a location that is exposed to mold and bacteria, and the plastic comes into contact with ingredients of a corrosive nature (e.g. cleaning agents, sprays, cosmetics, soaps, etc.). Certain ingredients used in those types of products can make the plastic porous, allowing dirt and moisture to find places to settle. So we can learn more and help you further with your iO 4, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

I bought this a year and a half ago, and it worked pretty well up until about 3 months ago when it started dying after a week/10 days. Mind you I’m not brushing my teeth 5x a day, and I don’t leaving it sitting on the charger for days. This shouldn’t be happening. My old tooth brush lasted 8 YEARS and I abused that thing. And now it just completely stopped working, so I sent it in and now the supposed 2 year warranty just doesn’t apply because I don’t have the PAPER receipt from a YEAR and a half ago. That’s just their way to get out of honoring the warranty. Also I did register this toothbrush, so what’s the point of doing that if you’re not going to honor the warranty??
1 reply from Customer Care team - 2 months ago
We're sorry to hear this. With the many quality tests our brushes undergo, we expect them to give your smile a great clean for many years. While a receipt is required to submit your brush for repair/replacement via the warranty process, most retailers should be able to provide you with a copy. So we can assist you further, we ask that you please give our team a call at (800) 566-7252.

Worst tooth brush in history! Do. Not. Buy. I wish I read reviews earlier. Missed my window to return. The mold, disgusting, the battery life, weak. But mostly it’s the mold. So so gross and waste of money!
1 reply from Oral-B team - 2 months ago
We're sorry to hear your battery wasn't what you were hoping for, and that your brush developed mold. Please know, we have many quality checks in place to ensure only the best products reach you, & would expect your toothbrush to have a long-lasting battery. It can help to connect to the app and perform a firmware update to improve the battery life. We understand this is unsightly, but it is likely a buildup from regular use. Even if rinsed after each use, residual toothpaste can harden over time and form a residue on your toothbrush and the replacement head. This buildup may be colored depending on your toothpaste and water hardness. In either case, this substance is not harmful and can be removed with a thorough cleaning. So that we can help you further, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

Disappointed - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
I had an Oral B toothbrush for years that I finally replaced with this model after my old one stopped charging. This toothbrush is horrible. As others have said, the design of the brush head makes it fill with liquid and mold easily and it sprays everywhere when I brush. It is hard to clean. Very disappointing - avoid this model.

We never want you to feel disappointed when investing in a new toothbrush, so we're sorry you're unhappy with your Oral-B iO4. There's nothing more important to us than the quality of our products, which is why they go through strict quality checks. The iO series brush heads are designed with openings on the brush heads to allow water to flush through the brush head tube and let air inside. This venting ensures the brush head dries sufficiently after use and reduces moisture inside the tube. It's important to always rinse your brush head thoroughly after each use to prevent residue from building up and blocking the openings. Your loyalty and satisfaction mean everything to us, and we'd like to learn more about your experience with your iO4 and see how we can help further. When you have a moment, please give us a call at 1-800-566-7252, 9 am-6 pm EST, Monday-Friday.

Mold magnet

Veegeebee - 6 months ago, Verified purchaser
Disliked that it got mold in the crevices quickly. Mold grows quickly around the base and all inside the head. The design of the brush head makes it a mold magnet. Many unreachable places inside the head that when you start rinsing mold comes out. Gross & unsanitary. Waste of money.

We're sorry to hear this. We understand that seeing buildup on your electric toothbrush can be concerning. This is often just residue from regular use. Even with rinsing after each use, toothpaste can harden over time, creating a chalky coating that may appear black, brown, orange, pink, or grey on the metal shaft, rubber parts, and joints, as well as on the charger. Water and toothpaste can also collect on the brush head and handle, leaving a residue that varies in color depending on your toothpaste and water hardness. Rest assured, this buildup is not harmful and can be easily removed with a thorough cleaning. To help prevent it in the future, we recommend rinsing your toothbrush thoroughly as outlined in your manual, including the handle, and wiping down the charger. If you have questions or would like to share more, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

Toothpaste constantly rolls down the toothbrush. The battery doesn’t stay charged longer than 5 days. The toothbrush doesn’t shut off after 2 minutes. I’ve had this toothbrush for 5 months and I’m switching to another brand.

Terrible Design

I bought this toothbrush July, 2023 and am disappointed daily with this purchase. I follow all manufacturer's instructions and still have mildew accumulating on both the brush head and handle. The design does not allow for all parts to dry in between brushes. Even when I store my brush head completely separate from the handle (which is super difficult because of the angle of the head and no place on the charger to store the head) the brush somehow manages to grow mildew. It's just a terrible product for the price.

We're disappointed to hear you aren't enjoying your brush, Steph. While we understand how unsightly this can be, what you're experiencing is likely a result of toothpaste buildup. I had this for less than a year and it no longer holds a charge. It wasn’t dropped, submerged in water, nothing to damage it, it just stopped working! Very disappointing given the price! I’ve had other Oral B electronic toothbrushes that lasted a lot longer. As others have noted, the handle/part that holds the brush needs to be cleaned frequently and the end that is inside the brush needs to be dipped in denture cleaner or scraped around with a toothpick and vinegar. It’s not an easy spot to clean.

Oral B has always had a design flaw where you have to clean the brushes with denture cleaner periodically because of mold. But with this model, the actual toothbrush is growing mold in an impossible to reach place. Completely unhygenic.

I bought this product about 6 months ago and I am extremely unhappy with it. If I could rate it a zero I would. I have to constantly keep removing the head to clean it out or black mold builds up over only a couple of days. The black mold is also stuck in the actual handle part of the toothbrush and It is next to impossible to clean out. I need to purchase a new electric toothbrush and do not trust oral B when I used to have an old one that I used for multiple years. No thanks.

We're sorry to hear this. With the extensive quality tests our brushes go through, this isn't something we'd expect. While there's no organic in our brushes that would cause mold, this is most likely the result of excess toothpaste buildup. Our team would like to learn more from you, and provide you with some cleaning tips. So we can best assist you, we ask that you please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

5 months review: MOLD!!! The toothbrush works fine and cleans teeth properly. I have the case & charger and never had problems with those. However, I would never buy again or recommend because the design of the toothbrush has holes at the top that are great places for MOLD to grow. I separate the brush and handle each time, rinse both & dry separately and still find mold inside the toothbrush. Found out too late, don’t waste your money on this - apparently the other brands have better designs that aren’t breeding grounds for illness …

Molds like CRAZYYYY inside the brush head and hand piece. No matter how often I clean it or let it dry out, this seems like a huge safety issue. Returning to a manual toothbrush for now.

We're sorry to hear this. With the many quality tests we put our products through, this isn't something we'd expect. While it sounds like what you're experiencing is a result of toothpaste buildup, we understand how unsettling this can be. It sounds like you're doing the right steps by rinsing thoroughly and letting the heads air dry. We confident that with this continued care and maintenance, this should go away. Please know our team is always here for you. If you ever have questions or would like to share more with us, we welcome you to give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

Not a good set up. I have had plenty of oral B toothbrushes. This is the only one I have not been able to tell what setting I am on just by feel. It has four settings but only feels like maybe two. My old one had an indicator on the handle so even if you were not quite sure you could tell by the light indicator. Not on this one, very disappointed. Would return but already got rid of box. My bad. Don't take for granted newer is better lesson learned.
