Q: What kind of peppercorns come inside the grinder? Someone in our house is allergic to gluten, so it is important that the peppercorns be produced in a facility that does NOT handle wheat products, so as to avoid cross-contamination.

Q: What material is the grinding mechanism? Also, is it easy to fill? Some grinders have very narrow openings for refilling pepper corns. Thank you.

A: The grinding mechanism is made from a non-corrosive ceramic. You would simply turn the cap on the bottom and lift it off to easily refill. We hope this information was helpful!

A: Our Salt & Pepper Grinders come prefilled with either salt or pepper and are able to be refilled. However, we do not sell refills for the actual salt or pepper separately.

Have had it for a few years and have gone back and forth using it with other grinders because never know if going to really work. Sometimes it works great other times nothing comes out when use it--even with bunch of peppercorns inside. I have noticed peppercorns also get stuck in the grinder. Overall, ehhh, I am looking for a new one since I use pepper alot and this is sooooo frustrating

I usually love oxo products, so when I was looking to replace an old pepper grinder, I was really drawn to this one. I liked the idea of - variable grind size - not having a "pepper puddle" in my cupboard since the business end is at the top - see through to know when to refill - oxo However, after using for a year or so now I just don't love it. The size of grind is not variable enough for me, with the largest size being just a bit too fine still. From the pic, you can see it gets plenty fine (the 12 o'clock position). Then going clockwise, you can see the grind size at each position. I cranked it 5 times for each setting. (Note that when I say 1 crank, that's not a 360 degree turn, but closer to 90 degrees. Just until I need to regrip.) I think my beef is that 4 and 5 seem the same, whereas I'd want 5 closer to cracked pepper. Just larger chunks. I think what I wish the most is that more pepper was produced per crank. If I need a tablespoon of pepper, I feel like I'm cranking forever. Longer than my old no-name mill. I do still like that it's see through so you can tell when you need to refill. I like not having the pepper puddle thanks to upright storage. But I probably could have mitigated that with a cupcake liner come to think of it. But for me, I'll probably be in the market for a new pepper mill sooner than I was hoping.

Very happy with this grinder. I had been using a Cole & Mason one previously and the difference is amazing! My old one was like pepper dust coming out of it and took alot of work to get a coarse ground out, constantly clogged. This pepper grinder has different options for how coarse you want it, also provides nice fresh gound pepper.
