I HAD empty patches in my back yard ( lawn) that would not fill in with other product brands I have tried! Thinking the area was to “Sandy” to grow through, I tried one more product, THIS, and it works! Took 2 applications, but def worth it!

The instructions were simple and easy to follow. My bare then areas in my yard are now growing grass. I am very satisfied with how this worked!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this for a month or two with extremely high hopes, as I've tried numerous brands to get grass to grow around a couple of trees in my yard. The smart patch did sprout some grass here and there, however I'm still left will huge bald areas of no grass. I'd double up how much you use as the recommended amount didn't seem to work.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this grass seed to fill in the bald spots on my lawn. Pros: I no longer have any bald spots and the " grass" grew in quickly. Cons: I now have green weeds everywhere with deep roots. If I keep my lawn cut low, it looks like grass but when it grows long, the weeds develop what look like white flowers on them plus the grass is a light green instead of the dark green lawns of my neighbors. Very disappointing. Pennington is normally a good buy. This time there was a lack of quality control

But I have not read one bad thing on the internet, everyone seems to really like this stuff. It says it helps regrow the grass where your dog's do their busines. As soon as I use this I will repost my review .

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We planted this and were able to see the growth in as little as five days. We were very happy with this patch grass. We had planted grass early this spring and had a few spots to cover that were bare. The bag says it covers about 200 square feet and that was right on. We planted it in early fall and the weather cooperated - for the record we are in Nebraska. I would recommend this patch to grass to anyone needing a fix to their lawn.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This year I decided to grow some tomatoes and peppers alongside my carport in the backyard. This was my first year planting in the ground. Once I removed the plants this fall, there was a bare patch of soil left. I decided that next year I would plan out the garden better, so I needed to patch up the area I planted in this year. I used the Smart Patch mix and spread it all over the bare soil area. It covered the whole area that needed to be covered. There has been some progress with grass growing in the area, but the cold set in and we are now in December. Since the seed mix covered the area very well, I am confident we will see grass growing in the Spring. This mix is very easy to spread, and I like that the mix contains seed, mulch, and fertilizer. Will purchase this product again.

Well let me tell you this is just what we needed. We followed the directions as instructed, and in a few weeks little grass sprouted in the patches. We are so happy we will continue purchasing this to complete our yard

We used this just at the beginning of fall. The seed quality is great as we could see little grass in just about a week. The mixture with fertilizer is perfect to make grass grow well and we no longer have the dry patches. We are planning to get more for the backyard and use it in the spring. I will recommend this.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the Pennington Smart Patch sun and shade grass seed. I found that it definitely took longer to germinate compared to bare seed. It was difficult to shake to get even spreading through top, since the opening was completely open. It was also too large to go into spreader, so I had to take it evenly over the spots we were trying to fill. It did seem that the fertilizer coating on the seeds helped to hold water longer though. There wasn’t a ton of seeds that germinated as well.

My husband is a landscaper by trade and was excited to try this out. He laid it on the lawn and now we wait to see if it can reverse the damage i did.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter came for a short visit that lasted 3 years. Along with my daughter came her two beautiful but very large and rambunctious Italian Mastiffs. And somewhere along the way, the female had puppies. Not 2, not 6, but 11 cute, bumbling, digging, clawing little puppies. Now I love puppies, but my yard was my oasis and once the puppies were gone, so was most of my grass. I had a huge bare spot and lots of holes left behind. We tried reseeding but between the birds coming for their daily snack and the water bill going sky high, we had to give up after about 4 weeks and try something else. A friend suggested Pennington Smart Patch because they had some yard work and needed to put grass in an area that had not had any grass before then. They loved the results they got from the Pennington Mix and thought that it might work well for us as well. We tried the Sun and Shade Mix and found it to be much easier than regular old seed. This mix not only has mulch added, it also has fertilizer to feed the seeds and microbials to protect them from disease, along with a tackifier to keep the seed from running downhill or washing away if it rains. It still takes the same amount of time to sprout, but during the germination time, it’s got a much better chance of succeeding and more of the seeds will thrive if they have proper food, water, light, and protection from disease. Pennington’s got that covered.

We applied the sun and shade mix according to the directions and we're surprised when we finally started to see grass growing. It isn't thick, but I suspect it's from the location and not the product. Overall pleased with the results.
