A: Hi There, Our retractable gates can extend up to 71”. Unfortunately, at this time we don't offer any customization to our retractable baby gates. Our retractable gates are not designed to be joined together.

Hi Lace, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear of the difficulties you’re experiencing with your retractable gate. To operate with one hand: Push and twist the release knob to unlock, then release the knob (no need to hold onto the knob), then using the same hand pull the handle to extend the gate. This gate was easy to install and to use. Initially bought one for the top of our stairs as a safety barrier for our grandson. Then installed one in my daughter’s house. Just bought my third one snd installed it on a our deck. I read some reviews that some people had trouble using it with one hand, but it has worked well for us using only one hand. Retracting over to one side keeps it pretty much out of the way when not needed. We have had a swing through gate and found that it was restrictive and not as attractive.

Says it goes to 71 inches. My opening is 71 inches. It does not fit. So do not purchase if your opening is 71 inches.

We live in a 4 level split and have 3 stairways in an 8 ft area and had no idea how to gate it off. We took a chance on this (our opening is exactly 71 inches) and this is the perfect solution for us. It is low profile, looks nice, and works well. It can be a little tricky to open across this span because it locks into place if it moves backwards at all. For that reason I would say it would be harder if you’re looking to always have a gate closed behind you- it would definitely be a challenge while holding a baby. But it works perfectly for us! We were going to get a pressure mount gate for another area but I’m considering spending the extra $25 to put one of these there as well.

Mesh Screen is too flexible. Allows kids and dogs to burrow under thus eliminating the gate's purpose.
