Q: Currently in the thinking about it stage. How many months before trying should I start prenatal vitamins?

submitted by Denise - 5 months ago
  • A: You should start prenatal well before you get pregnant, so anytime is good

submitted byEducator - 2 months ago
  • A: Thanks for reaching out, Denise! Research shows that it takes time to reach optimal nutrient levels for conception, and taking a prenatal vitamin at least three months before conception is ideal. Let us know if we can help with anything else!

Q: How long can I keep open bottle without product can be spoiled?

submitted by KL - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi! Once opened, Essential Prenatal can be stored safely until the expiration date printed on the bottle, as long as it's kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Proper storage helps maintain the product’s quality and effectiveness. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Q: Can I break the capsule & take it that way?

submitted by Precious Ashante - 4 months ago
  • A: Hi there! We don't suggest opening up the vitamins as they won't work as designed with our delayed-release capsule technology. Let us know if we can help answer any other questions!

Q: Are your prenatal capsules free of seafood/shellfish? I have a deathly allergy but saw these are vegan and want to double check.

Q: My wife wasn't able to swallow the pill since it activated her gag reflex. When you say to take it with food, can she chew it or empty the contents in a drink?

submitted by Anon - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there! Our vitamins can be taken with or without food. Our vegan, delayed-release capsule delivers nutrients to the small intestine for ideal absorption. This also means you can take the vitamins on an empty stomach. To take the capsules with food would mean taking them after a meal or snack. However, we don't suggest opening up the capsule, or chewing it, as they wouldn't work as designed.

Q: If you start taking the Pre-Natal multivitamin, should you stop the regular women's multivitamin, or continue to take both?

submitted by BreMue - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there! We don't suggest taking both at the same time. Essential Prenatal was designed for women who are thinking about, trying, or who are currently pregnant. If you’re not trying or currently pregnant, Essential for Women 18+ is the way to go!

Had horrible, painful chin acne on these prenatals. Did some research and learned that other women had a similar experience due to the biotin in the ingredients. Stopped taking the prenatal and my skin cleared up.

I really wanted to like these prenatal as they are one of a few that have DHA in them and have decent ingredients but I can’t. I’ve been taking them for months and I dread taking them. They get stuck in my throat, the burps they cause are atrocious and the lemon taste is so strong at times it’s almost sour. I don’t understand how they are rated so highly.
1 reply from Ritual Team team - 2 months ago
Thanks for sharing your honest feedback—we're sorry to hear that your experience with our Essential Prenatal hasn't been what you hoped for. While we designed our delayed-release capsules to be easy on the stomach, we know that everyone’s experience can be different. The lemon essence is there to help with the taste, but we understand it may not be for everyone. If you’re finding the capsules difficult to swallow, some customers have had success taking them with food or a cold beverage. We truly appreciate you giving them a try, and we’re always listening to feedback as we continue to improve. If there's anything we can do to help, please reach out!

Overpriced Designer Prenatla - Lacks Essential Nutrients - Causes Nausea

Mominmedicine - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
Please don't waste your money on this!! For this price, you should get a third-party tested product (claims of this on Ritual website, but no evidence of the organization or details). Reviewed the ingredients and Ritual is SEVERELY lacking/missing basic nutrients such as choline and vitamin A that are recommended by ACOG (the organization that provides evidence-based guidelines for OBGYN physicians) https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/nutrition-during-pregnancy I purchased this to take while waiting for the prenatal I typically use (Theralogix) to be shipped. After starting these vitamins I had horrible heartburn, nausea, and belching of an awful fish oil taste for the ENTIRE day. I suspect the substance used for the outer coating interferes with appropriate digestion/absorption. You also have to take TWO of these disgusting pills to meet the daily recommended dose. Tried it multiple days and had the same issues. Returning immediately.

I took the citrus essenced while pregnant with my first and liked it but I loved the mint essenced for my second pregnancy/postpartum. I’ve contacted support a handful of times over the last 5 years with questions and they’ve always been incredibly helpful, polite, and prompt. I love the option to get 3 months at a time to save money and shipping and packaging!

    The Best Prenatals

I understand why some people wouldn't like these prenatals, as they do have a strong lemon-y taste and smell. Perhaps that can cause nausea in some, but I will say that even at the peak of my first trimester (the absolute worst of my nausea), I was able to handle them very well and did not have an adverse reaction to them or anything. I love that their ingredients are traceable. I wish they were a bit more affordable, but I've always been willing to pay a bit more for quality, so it's not too much of a problem.

I struggled my entire pregnancy with food aversion, and these vitamins helped me so much! My nurse got impressed with my level of hemoglobin and I’m positive that these vitamins helped so much. Advice: take them before bed, to avoid the fishy burp during the day.

I switched to these after my last prenatals made me nauseous and I realized I cannot handle gummy vitamins. After reading reviews I decided to give these a chance. I took them at night after dinner and a little before bed, worked out great. I took them with a sip of tea, didn’t notice any alarming taste. I have reflux and did not notice foul taste at all. I would recommend these. Also, a lot of the more natural vitamins require you to take a lot more capsules glad this is just 2! And a fair price compared to the market of organic vitamins.

I really wanted to like these vitamins. Especially with the clean ingredients but the fishy aftertaste is so awful. If you have any type of reflux or burp at all you will literally burp up fishy all day. So sad and so gross.

I took these prenatals about three months before conceiving and throughout the pregnancy. I researched prenatals a lot before buying these, and I liked the time release capsule and vegan ingredients. I did use a separate calcium supplement and Ritual’s separate choline supplement as well as a tiny bit of folic acid (just to be on the safe side since there are no studies that I could find on folate). The vitamins were a bit hard to take in the first trimester due to nausea, but I was still able to take them every day. I never got fishy burps or felt sick taking them. My son was born and he is very healthy and strong! Definitely research choline supplementation - I think that that is really important and most prenatals including this one only have a tiny bit of choline. Overall, I love this product. The only downside is that one shipment was late, so I had to buy another vitamin in the meantime, but Ritual allowed me to order the next pack early, so I never ran out of vitamins again. I am now taking the postnatal vitamin. Definitely recommend this product.

Great concept in theory but I couldn’t even get them down. The bitter coating/ taste made it immediately want to come back up once it touched my tongue and then once I did get them down I had fishy burps. Made the nausea 10 times worse. Definitely would return if I could and wish I would’ve know they were “flavored”

Really like the prenatal vitamins, they’re the only ones I’ve tried that haven’t made me nauseous. My only complaint is that I have fishy-tasting burps after taking them. As long as I take my vitamins at night before I go to bed, this doesn’t bother me.

A good pill, but strong scent and fishy aftertaste

I like these because they contain all of what i was looking for in a prenatal. The pills are huge (but most prenatals are) and the citrus scent is strong so as someone who has a tough time swallowing pills, I have to take it with orange juice to mask the citrus scent. It also makes me burp up a fishy aftertaste for several hours after taking these which is unpleasant.

I have been taking the prenatal daily since the beginning of my pregnancy, I have not had any issues. I have been getting the citrus scent since the beginning, I think I will try the mint just to see. I also just started taking the pregnancy protein, it is delicious and keeps me full throughout my mornings until lunch time. I will continue to use Ritual products into my postpartum time as well.

    Lacking

Pay attention to the supplement facts! This supplement only provides 18 mg of iron, not the recommended daily amount for pregnant women, which is 27 milligrams (mg). I have taken this supplement for roughly four years and love it. But now I know I need to take a sidebar low dose of iron to fill the gap. My doctor said, "I'm not sure it's worth the boutique price when you have to add on." Plenty of grocery store options are checking all the boxes for half the price." So perhaps this remains a tremendous PRE-natal option but worth reconsideration once pregnancy occurs.
