Q: Is this considered a “liner rim can”? The brand expert posted that the compost caddy works with all the “liner rim cans” so I purchased this and the caddy. However the caddy does not seem to fit on this model. Is there a way, or a fix?

A: While you do not need to use simplehuman liners with our trash cans, we highly recommend using our custom fit liners for best overall experience, as we do have some unique shapes to some of our trash cans. Our custom fit liners are tailored to fit our cans perfectly so they stay in place and don't slip. They're also extra strong, which makes them less likely to rip and tear, even when they are full! Yes, they are BPI - certified.

There are plastic hinges that support the heavy lid and they will break within months. We have two of these and both have the exact same problem. I have had 3 of the same lids break on me and Simple Human keeps sending the same lid with plastic hinges and they keep breaking. If you like failing by doing the same thing over expecting different results this is the trashcan for you. If you are not a fool then you should shop for a better product not to have the same issues with this company. With this product you will pay more but expect less. DO NOT buy this trashcan.

If you’re paying this much, it’s nice to read a review from a user. This is pretty darn close what I was looking for. Did not want a motion sensor I have to have batteries around for or wall charge. Pedal seems good quality; however, if it got lots of rough use (like slamming or repeatedly tapping - can you tell I have older kids?!), I don’t know how well it would wear, as with anything not taken care of. While it would be nice to have two same size bins (only reason for 4 stars vs 5), I don’t mind the two different sizes. Small household with small meals, less trash and more recyclables typically. You can choose which side to use as garbage or recycling since it doesn’t have a permanent image on the front or inside the container indicating specifically. When you use a the garbage bag liner, both bins appear the same color. Without the garbage bag liners, the bins are as pictured. I decided to buy the extra bags for each side. Each side does come with a trial set of 10 (so 20 bags total), plus tag attached to each trial package of bags reads that you can register your product for a special offer (I haven’t done that yet, so unsure what that means). A nice idea would be multiple bin versions to choose from (like clothing size options): 1 bin, 2 equal size bins, or this version. Even better would be a slightly larger and wider version of the waste container to hold a 3rd bin for organics; perhaps that could be the skinny bin. If you’re wondering also how you can peel items in or toss your egg shell(s) while cooking/baking, there is a red plastic switch mechanism on the far right, near the hinge, that slides to or away from the hinge to hold it open. The slow, quiet lid close is nice, too. Not too fast or slow. I took the sticker from the top and put it inside to indicate which side I am using as recycling. You can always put your own labels inside to choose which side suits your need at the time best. Knocked 1 star off Value because while it seems to be great quality, the price point seems a bit high for this item. An original price of 10-15% lower price point would seem more appropriate, especially considering the cost of the bags is higher than regular bags. If you’re considering buying regular bags for the narrower/smaller side, it will likely be frustrating losing more space with the extra bag material inside. It depends on what’s more worthwhile for you: hassle, cost, etc.

I was so excited for this trash can when ordering it, but my hatred for the tiny space for the actual trash has trumped it all. I love the larger space for the recycling but come on! We all need a little more space for the trash. We've only had it for 3 days and I'm already so beyond frustrated with this thing! I've had to take out the little trash just about every day and we only have one little one, I can't imagine a family of 4 or 5. I can't even empty out my vacuum canister without dirt getting everywhere because the canister is bigger than the tiny trash receptacle!

I like the separate sections for trash and for recycling, but the garbage side of this trash can is simply not sufficient for a family kitchen. If I had a dollar for every time the trash bag simply ends up tied to a kitchen drawer because it has outgrown the trash can, I would have more than offset the cost of this dud product by now.

The dual compartments are super cool, but I wish they were more equal in size instead of such a small trash side. Also, it would be really helpful if there were an embossed "Recycle" symbol on the lid to identify the recycling bin side -- people are confused and keep putting trash in the recycling.... a simple recycle symbol sticker would even help, but it doesn't come with anything like that. Overall, it's a great product and I'm very happy to have it in my home. It looks nice, is easy to clean, and the soft-close lid is awesome!

My husband and I had a larger trash can by Simplehuman trash can, but were only filling it about one third to one half way. I had been eyeing this dual can for some time as in Seattle there is way more recyclables than trash. LOVE that it incorporates both. Only complaint is that for such a big piece, it is not weighed down. It moves a bit each time we use it. I may have to put a brick or so ething in the bottom of it.
