A: Hi Kate! The product is a clarifying shampoo which could possibly remove hair dye since it’s formulated to remove build-up, excess oil and residue.We don't recommend using it on color treated hair. -Suave Team
submitted byEG Product Expert - 1 year agoBrand expertA: Yes, you need to leave this in about 10-20 mins, I recommend you use the hottest water you can tolerate and that even makes colors come out faster. You might need to do this a few times to get the results you want. But yes this will gradually strip hair dye. I'm using this to strip an ugly shade of red that made my hair a disaster so I can put a different shade of red over it. Keep in mind only use this every two or three days with a deep conditioner. Using this every single day will be extremely drying

This shampoo does its clarifying job well at a cheap price, but it discolored our showers (first a tile shower, then an onyx shower). I’m thankful we caught it early in the second shower, so we could figure out the cause before it got worse. Be very careful using this in your homes!

Have used this shampoo for years, washing my hair every other day. Love it, just wish Target would sell the Daily Clarifying conditioner as well. There are other Suave conditioners but they are all scented.. would love the matching pair of daily clarifying.

If you are oily, don't listen to anyone who says you only need clarifying once a week. This daily clarifying shampoo is exactly what I needed to have light, fluffy hair that actually feels clean. Without it, I have mountains of superfine hair that feels limp and overly soft. With it, I have clean-feeling hair for a full 24 hours until my next daily shower, which is exactly what I want. I have used $40 shampoos that didn't make my hair feel as good as this $3 one.

This is a must have product for me. Suave Clarifying really helps to deep clean my oily scalp in hot weather and once every couple of weeks during cold weather. It is also absolutely brilliant at removing product build up like dimethicones from more gentle shampoos and conditioners. Also wanted to mention that I appreciate the absence of methylchlorothiazolone as a preservative which is in most shampoos and conditioners now. It's way more likely to cause irritation than parabens are and I'm happy to note that Suave is not using this common irritant. Recommend highly for anyone who wants to clarify or deep cleanse.

This does what it says- clarifies hair/scalp. The key to using is to pair with the conditioner, and only use the shampoo once in awhile (forget that it says daily). I have dry hair/oily scalp and this works the best for me. I wash once in awhile with this to deep clean. Follow with conditioner everywhere including scalp and let sit, then rinse. This is necessary as the shampoo really cleans, any hair not conditioned will be left squeaky clean and likely feel gross if left this way (something other reviewers may be experiencing). If left squeaky clean, your scalp may also get oilier because you have stripped it with the shampoo and it will try to overcompensate with oil if you don’t moisturize with the conditioner (this is how all cleansers work, they strip oil then skin/hair needs a conditioner or moisturizer to bring that PH back to soften). Shampoos that don’t leave hair squeaky usually have silicones which make hair feel silky but build up and weigh down over time. This shampoo/conditioner doesn’t do that, just leaves hair clean and soft/lightweight if used properly. The rest of the time, I just use this conditioner like shampoo, and it works amazingly. Run through all hair and scrub into scalp, sit, let rinse. It leaves hair/scalp clean without stripping, and does not build up. I didn’t think this would work at first (called co washing) because I have a really oily scalp, but I’ve been doing it for years and promise it does. This leaves my hair cleaner, softer and healthier than any shampoo/conditioner set I’ve ever used. Not sure why Target stopped carrying the conditioner so I have to buy elsewhere now.

I bought this because I was tired of all the shampoos I was using and saw good reviews. The first few times I used it, my hair looked great! Really shiny and smooth. Then, after a few weeks, my hair would get really oily the day after I washed it. I figured because it's a clarifying shampoo, it would basically strip my hair, which cause it to overcompensate by getting oily. So I used it less frequently. Didn't help. I used with the Suave conditioner and started breaking out on my scalp and around my hairline. Now I have to start trying different shampoos again. I guess you get what you pay for.

This somehow makes my fine hair more clogged and gunked up instead of clarifying. Idk if they changed the formula or what, but I probably won’t even finish the bottle. It leaves my hair feeling like I didn’t even just wash it - the opposite of clarifying!

If your hair is mostly on oily side, it’s really a good one for the price. It doesn’t make lot difference for people whose hair gets oily on second or third day of wash. But if you get small itchy bumps after regular shampoo, it’s must try.

I love this shampoo! We just moved into a new home, and we have hard water. It made my hair hard to manage and yucky. I could barely even comb through my hair. After reading a whole lot of reviews, I settled on this clarifying shampoo. After one use. My hair was lighter and manageable, and I could finally comb through it! I have been missing a good clarifying shampoo in my regular hair routine since my last one was discontinued. I will be using this once a week to maintain my newly clean and bouncy hair. For the price and effectiveness, you will not find another one like this out there. Please don't stop making this!
