Description

TetraFauna® Viquarium™ is an innovative land and water environment for aquatic reptiles, amphibians and fish. Combining decoration and top-of-the-line filtration, TetraFauna Viquarium is a terrarium and aquarium in one. Its realistic waterfall and riverbed basking area fit inside most 20 to 50 gallon aquariums. An 80 GPH submersible pump powers the waterfall and powers the built-in 3-stage Tetra® Whisper® filtration technology. Uses two TetraFauna ReptoFilter® Filter Cartridges (size medium) to keep water crystal clear.
Realistic features make the TetraFauna Viquarium the perfect habitat for aquatic turtles, amphibians and fish. Water cascades into the riverbed, and the waterfall provides an additional surface area for helpful bacteria growth. Basking areas allow animals to enjoy heat and light. Critter access ramps make it easy for turtles, newts and other pets to climb from the water onto land. The riverbed extension allows for variable-size land and water sections depending on your space needs. The TetraFauna Viquarium design also includes space for a fogger unit to create a rainforest environment (fogger not included).

Great filtering system! Obviously as a pet mom one need to be aware that water still needs to be change every two weeks to keep my babies healthy. I have 75 gallon aquarium and two medium size turtles, one almost the size of my hand and the other the size of my palm just to give you a reference. This has been working great for over one year by changing the two filters when I change the water. I choose to wash the mesh and just put new coal inside. Additionally I have a regular fish tank filter just for fun because I now that my turtles like diving underneath the waterfall that forms when the water falls from above (this second one is a 20 gallon filter the long black kind with a mesh and a carbon bag opne from the top, the most common kind)

I’ve been using this for years with my firebelly toads. I have guppies in the water section and live plants all over. It’s keeps the water excellent quality. I don’t think I would use it for turtles. They require much more filtration, my opinion. I’ve used it in both a 29 and a 55.

Use in Turtle Aquarium How to 'Pump it Up' for better filtration and the size you need to cut the acrylic - 12 years experience

I have owned turtle aquariums for over 12 years. I LOVE the vivarium and currently run it in a 75g W and 2, 40g W aquariums. Here are a few pointers that some of the users on here need to realize: for each 1" of turtle shell, you need to have 10g minimum of filtration, and where this is a beautiful filter to use in your aquarium it is simply not big enough on it's own to filter more than 1 turtle in a 20 gallon, no matter how much you try to keep it clean, it just won't cut it, and it is of no fault of the company, that is exactly what it is meant to do! HOWEVER, if you love the look of this as much as I do, here is my recommendation and a hack to use this gorgeous filter AND keep a clean tank! First: Set up your vivarium filter. (In wide tanks, you will need acrylic inserts which you can buy for very cheap online, ($4 each! cut to your customize size. (In a 40w and 75W you need cut acrylic that is 3/8" x, 6 1/4" x 3 1/4") Second: Put a canister filter to the appropriate size required for your turtles, again 1" shell = 10g to 20g filtration, for my 40W (also called a breeder tank), I use a 120g canister filter, and have perfect water. 75W I use a 200g. If you choose NOT to drill holes with bulkheads (I use that in 1 tank WITH my Vivarium filter), than you can hack it by drilling a hole down through the lid on the top of the vivarium, insert the INTAKE hose through this hole and then attach a ring on both sides, so it can not slip out, push the intake hose all the way to the bottom of the back section of the vivarium. DO NOT leave it open so the hose can sit in there, as turtles like to climb they will likely fall in and drown! A regular drill bit will drill through it just fine. Third: Take the OUTPUT hose from your canister filter and attach it to the top opposite side of the tank with the spray bar facing the glass, this will create a cascade waterfall on the opposite side of the tank which will push water towards your vivarium filter and the intake hose. Essentially what you just did was increase the filter capabilities of your vivarium while keeping the beautiful set up. DO NOT SET THE OUTPUT HOSE UP TO PUSH WATER DOWN THE WATERFALL, if you do this, though it is logical, you will create a waterfall that WILL and can drown your turtles as well as keeping them from climbing up your waterfall, further, it will actually keep your tank from being cleaned by creating only a circular filtration happening inside the back of your vivarium filter. So, don't give up on your Vivarium because you are using it for something bigger than it is good for, just pump it up with a canister filter, keep the beauty, the fun for your turtles, and the clean water! I will always use these gorgeous filters, and I hope this helps you to keep yours! (attached is a photo of my 75W, it needs cleaned, but I wanted to show you how to hack it, this specific tank has the hole drilled through the tank and in to the lower part of the Vivariums back tower. (Please do not attempt to do that specific hack at home). The 40g breeders are currently being cleaned so I could not take a photo of that for you, those have the hose going through the top of the lid.)

yes, the product has it's prettyness, filter is not for big tanks, maybe for 20 gallon. i brought a 40 gallon breeder tank for my 2 turles, waiting 4 days and water was very murky did not clear at all. i'll keep it for it's rock looking feature and the turtles love to climb and bask, but not good with filteration, had to add the Fluval 106, water cleared overnight.

Tetra Viquarium

The viquarium fit perfect in my 50Gal tank. It has spawned a lot of interest of my family. Before this viquarium kit i had a 501 filter from PetsMart, My wife did not like changing the filters and every time the power went out the pump had to be primed. With the viquarium kit my wife can just reach in and remove the filter tops and swap in new elements. If the power fails the pump does not need to be primed due to the fact that is is submerged in the tank under a nice looking directive rock. The river rock portion of the filter system is not just a clunky box sitting arear of my aquarium, Its now part of the display of my habitat I can plant vegetation in it and recover nutrients from the waste collected from the water. I gave this product 4 stars do to the fact I feel they should add the option to buy parts, IE New pumps, River bed extensions, or Remote water fall for the tank side of the habitat. I can see that this project will gently grow with our green friend and I will end up with some DIY to make this product fit a larger tank.
