The Courting of Bristol Keats - by Mary E Pearson (Hardcover)

This book is so bad. If you’re going to buy it for the sprayed edge, just know that the story is barely readable. The writing is terrible. There’s an ungodly number of side characters whose names are peppered throughout the story and I couldn’t tell you who’s who, what these people look like or why they’re important to the story. There’s no relationship building. Just all of the sudden, the FMC has a girl friend group who are all besties but you hardly see any interaction between them until they’re acting like best friends. There’s moments where the author hypes up how the MMC will have to grovel to someone to help the FMC, how hard it’s going to be to get this person to help her. and then, in the next chapter, the situation was taken care of and they were back. There’s weird POV chapters from inanimate objects and animals. At points, the author doesn’t even know what’s happening in the chapter (a character is simultaneously scarfing down pie & beer and also throwing cherries at another character) and switched character POVs within the same section without a break. The “spicy” scenes were like a YA author decided to write spice without actually having read any spice. The descriptions of “intimate” anatomy had me literally gagging. Super confusing. The ending fell short and doesn’t conclude anything. It seemed like the end of a chapter, not a whole book. Supposedly this is part of a series? You wouldn’t know it by the ending. Please don’t buy this book. I’ve never regretted buying a book as much as I have this one!

I am not happy about the quality of books I receive from target online. Every single book in my purchase came with an imperfection on the book, including cuts, frayed edges, dents, and marks.

This book was great! If you like fantasy, I highly recommend. I was so bummed when I looked up a sequel that this book came out not too long ago so no sequel yet. I am DESPERATE to know what happens next. Also, this special edition is gorgeous!

My only gripe with this book is that its sequel isn’t out yet!

I have been trying to collect, collector’s editions of books 📚 I think I would like. I’ve been an avid reader for 30 plus years and about 95 percent of books I order I end up really enjoying them. This review reflects the condition of the book. I say I’m trying to collect collectors editions but it’s hard when Target ships them in such appalling condition. This book came super damaged (see pictures) even the beautiful sprayed edges had minor damage. I keep ordering from target because of there buy 2 get 1 free deals but I’m wondering is it worth it?! 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Targets really good about sending out replacements but even more than half the time they arrive damaged too.
