Q: The internet light keeps turning orange and the signal drops. Then it goes back to green and signal’s back. I’ve changed the cables, restated it and it still owes dropping. What should I do?

  • A: (I’m the one who asked this question) I set it to access point mode and it has been working great ever since. Funny how I answered my own question

submitted byAnonymous - 4 years ago
  • A: In the case of an amber/orange Internet LED, this means the router is not receiving Internet from the modem (while orange). We would first recommend reaching out to your Internet service provider for diagnosis. This router worked great until about 3 months ago. I have had a lot going on lately and finally got around to troubleshooting it. The customer support at TP Link after about 5 hours of troubleshooting and 4 technicians later they told me my router is faulty. Well my two year warrant just ended a month ago. Now I have to by a new one. My D Link I had for at least 5 years and it worked fine, just decided to upgrade. I thought I should have gotten more use out of this product. I recommend another brand, you should Ave to replace a router within two years.

For $45, this thing truly surprised me. On my old router, I was getting around 300 mbps (not sure what it’s rated) through the 5ghz WiFi. On here, I’ve gotten up to 500 mbps (rated at 867)! I’ve used several routers and switches and understand it won’t reach that peak amount, but this was a happy surprise to see a lot of performance from such a cheap router! Also tp-link has an app you can manage your router from instead of having to log into the router itself, which I think is extremely convenient! I haven’t bought a new router in a few years, so maybe this is common amongst all the brands now, but I really like tp-link’s interface and options. I might just buy another one to replace my router downstairs while I’m at it!

Great value in WiFi router

This is not the fastest available router out there, but it has proven to be a solid value. The bandwidth of this router is more than adequte for most home Internet connections. If you have a Gigabit connection then this is probably not the right device for you, you should be looking at a WiFi 6 router at maybe 3x the cost. I have purchased this router for two different apartments and a happy with their performance. I trust TP-Link as a solid middle of the road maker and I am very happy with these purchases.

Hi, We’ll be more than happy to help address your concerns and help improve your wireless experience. On a dual band router it’s important to recognize the benefits of both bands. Please take a moment to look over our FAQ here: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-499.html With that in mind, please connect devices that need longer range to the 2.4GHz band, and devices that are closer to the router but use more bandwidth to the 5GHz band. This will provide you with the best wireless experience. If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. Set up wasn't too hard once the wireless set up connected, there is also a wired set up option and an app set up. Previously had an MUCH older router along with a new modem and a booster to extend to the 2nd level. So far haven't needed to set up the booster and the speed has improved without interruptions. Also easy to hide without interrupting single. Best price out of 3 other stores.

1 reply from TPLinkSupport team - 5 years ago
Hi Bay, There are various factors that could affect your network speed, such as environmental variables like distance, WiFi signal obstruction, which WiFi band is being used, WiFi congestion from nearby signals, as well as your Internet speed plan and the Ethernet speed standard used on the hardware involved. If you would like assistance with your TP-Link router, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. This was easy to set up and worked fine for a couple of years. Now it won't recognize the broadband signal if I turn it off at the on-off switch for the night, then turn it back on in the morning. Twice in the last week, it did this. We thought the problem was the broadband since it suddenly started working after about 8 hours. This happened two days in a row. Worked fine for a week, then I accidentally shut it off last night and it is doing it again. Pulled my old Linksys router out of the closet and it is working fine so it has to be the router. Disappointing.
1 reply from TPLinkSupport team - 5 years ago
Hi Jules, Thank you for your review. The router shouldn't encounter difficulty re-negotiating the Internet connection after being power cycled, and we wonder if more might be at play than meets the eye here. Perhaps there is an IP conflict between the modem/gateway that is occurring during the reboot, in which case we recommend verifying whether your modem/gateway occupies the router's default IP address (192.168.0.1). Our Support Team is always happy to answer any questions you might have about our products. Please feel free to email USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. Thank you, TP-Link Support

I purchased this on 1/1/19 after my cheap 5 year old Belkin quit working. It worked fine for about a week with no issues and then It started dropping signal. It has progressively gotten worse, today I have restarted and rebooted the router numerous times because of the dropping of service. Once I’d get connected again only the 2.4ghz was working and 5ghz was not. My apartment is not even 700 sq feet and I’m only connected to my iPhone and tv. Do not waste your money, I am exchanging this piece of crap this week if I don’t throw it out the window first. Don’t even get me started on how worthless the app is outside of creating your network name.

Hi, Thank you for sharing your experience with our product. The Archer C59 is designed to provide reliable, dual-band AC1350 WiFi for your home. Your wireless signal and connection can be optimized in multiple ways to ensure you get the most out of your router. In modern network environments it is common for neighboring wireless networks to overlap, causing WiFi congestion and interference. By changing the wireless channel you can improve wireless signal strength, bandwidth, and range. Please take a moment to look over our FAQ on changing the wireless channel: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-2292.html If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. Overall the product was very nicely packaged with most components being protected with sticky film that prevents finger prints from accumulating on the equipment. Furthermore the packaging seemed adequate to protect the equipment. The included diagram how to connect the router to the modem or Ethernet cable was sufficient to help a novice connect everything. Unfortunately the setup was not quite up to expectation. The website or router addresses that you are supposed to connect to to set up the router as well as the Tether app send you to an initial login screen to set up an administrator login. It asks for a password and a confirm password field where it says 1-15 letters, numbers, and symbols. After two failed attempts I set up a password that only had a alpha numeric combination since it would not accept any characters that I typed. The only errors shown were that it ‘failed to log in’, no errors that certain characters are not accepted. Once I was able to pass this point a portion of the setup was easier again until I set up my network name and password. After having completed this step I kept getting an error that the router was unable to connect to the internet. I finally restarted my modem and router and was able to connect to the internet. General performance once everything was setup correctly seemed to be adequate and similar to my old router.

I've tried and followed all instructions, reboot, restart such a hassle giving up and switching to my old Motorola.

I am so happy I was able to get a chance to try the TP-Link AC1350 Wireless Dual Band Router -(Archer C59). Our WiFi is horrible and intermittent. After hooking this thing up, I have noticed a huge difference in connectivity. It was so simple to set up (took like 3 minutes) and the price is not all that bad either! We live in a rancher and the back room was having trouble getting a WiFi single. Been using this router for almost a week not and have not had a problem getting a single. I am not sure of the range it covers, but I think it would also work great in a two story home as well.
