Q: Will this work with Spectrum internet? I have the 200 speed; however the tech says my cpu is too old to support that speed; however a better router might help with the connection to the far side of the house.

Q: will this make my internet speed go faster

submitted by s - 4 years ago
  • A: Hi, s! Regarding your question about the TP-Link AC1900 MU-MIMO Dual Band Router: It can if your current set up is being limited by a router that can't handle the speeds you pay for, but you will limited by the speed you subscribe to by your Internet Service Provider and the speed that your modem is rated for. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

  • A: Your Internet speed is first and foremost determined by your Internet provider, your subscription plan, and your modem. That being said, if your current router is acting as a bottleneck and preventing you from achieving the Internet speed allotted to you by your provider, upgrading to a faster router may help alleviate the bottleneck. We would first recommend consulting with your ISP to determine what level of speed you should be receiving based on your current subscription.

Disconnects all the time. Spectrum agent says he has never heard of this brand and could not get it to read on his meter. He recommended a netgear model that is half the price

Great Router!

I did a lot of research/read a lot of reviews before choosing the C80/AC1900. It seems some people are looking for 'advanced features' (i.e. USB connection/antivirus/parental controls), and while you won't find bells and whistles on this router, it does exactly what I was looking for - it's FAST, it's RELIABLE, and it's got EXCELLENT RANGE to cover our 2,400 square foot house. I don't need anything else, I either have/can get those other features on my computer. So if you want a router that fulfills its primary purpose - to get on/stay on/have a great internet connection from everywhere in your home, I imagine you will be super-pleased when you purchase the C80. TP-Link/Archer makes great wireless products, and are on the low end of the price spectrum. Highly recommended.

The Wi-Fi strength works really good. This router can deliver my internet top speed to any of my devices in the house. The router is on the main floor and its keeping up. The kids used playing games all day and my self working and other family streaming and it works perfectly fine. I have speed internet and I get stable coverage. The setup is easy, just follow all the instruction. Web control interface is friendly user, and easy to understand. I love it

Good router with very good range. Had to put a good bit of time into adjusting the placement of the router and the antennas themselves to get it right but I now have full signal coverage in all rooms of the house as well as the detached garage where I previously was only getting a weak signal with my old router. Hung it on the wall, it looks amusing with it's antenna all over the place.

I was excited to try this new router, hoping to improve the signal strength throughout my house. Unfortunately, I only have DSL (AT&T U-verse), no fiber available where I live, so wasn't expecting a huge improvement on speed. The instructions were easy to follow, app really walked you step by step through everything. I couldn't plug my DSL connection directly into the router as it's not an ethernet connection, so had to use it behind the DSL modem. I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised by the stability this has offered for our devices. We have had fewer dropped connections and issues with the internet going down, and are getting much better reception in the lower levels of our house. Now if I could only get a fiber connection instead of DSL, I'll be extremely happy!

I am not sure what a Wi-Fi Router does. I thought it would help my poor Comcast signal with my family's multiple devices (cell phone, computer, smart devices, irobot, etc). I really do not see the difference. The Good: Sometimes, there is one more "bar" of signal strength from the router compared to my cable modem. But that is just sometimes. The Bad: I am not tach savvy; the set up was not easy. I re-read the instructions, went on youtube, etc. I finally figured that you have to go into the device's wifi and unselect the cable modem and then select the router. Then it worked. It really was not that apparent. The power cord is short and the adapter (whatever the name is of the actual plug) is so large that it takes up the entire wall outlet or two outlets in a surge protector strip; because it's large size I cannot fit it on my power strip and therefore have a daisy chain running from the other side of the room with an extension cord. The provided ethernet cable is even smaller. It is so small, that you physically have to locate the router next to the cable box. So maybe that is why the signal strength is just like the cable modem. I read on the internet it is ideal to place it elsewhere -- nope cannot because it must be near the cable box. I am not sure what this router does for me.

Right out of the box the router was super easy to install and configure. No problems and no questions. Frankly, I was blown away at the D/L speeds I am getting from this! With this new router, the D/L speeds shot up to between 180-225 Mps on the 5Ghz band - exceptional! No more poor connections on Skype calls, no more buffering on Crave and Netflix, no more unexplainable disconnects, solvable only by power cycling the router. I am very pleased with this!

The TP-Link AC1900 MU-MIMO Dual Band Router was extremely easy to set up. Hooking my HP printer to it was a breeze. Unfortunately, setting up my google mini was not easy. Turned out to be user error as I was trying to connect it to a guest account. Other than that the range is good in my 1300 sq ft house

This is a very good router. My previous router was the same brand but the range on this one is much better. Usually the reception on the second floor is just okay and can be spotty. However after installing this router I’ve been getting great coverage upstairs as well as in the backyard. The setup process was straightforward and we had everything up and running in 10-15 minutes. Overall a great upgrade to my existing router.

I found it easy to set up (about 10 min). Frankly, I was blown away at the D/L speeds I was getting from this inexpensive device! With our old router, we were able to get 40-50Mps on the opposite side of our house, using several devices and I thought that was pretty good. But with this new router, the D/L speeds shot up to between 180-225 Mps on the 5Ghz band - exceptional.

We recently switched to this router instead of leasing one from the cable company. Our family has several devices that run on this router and we have noticed no delay in speed. We are able to stream movies and TV shows without difficulty. It has been able to provide good coverage from our cabin and all the way down to the lake. It has been so much better than the router we were used to.

It took me a while to set it up. There were very few steps but not enough explanation for someone like myself who isn't very savvy. I had to use an ethernet cable and connect to my old router and use this one as an extender. Works decent. The antennas are awkwardly long but I guess that helps for better signal.

Hi, Thank you for your review. As long as you have an existing Internet source (i.e. modem), you should be able to use the Archer C80 without the need for another router. If your primary concern is a lack of Internet connectivity at the end of the Archer C80's setup process, it could be that your cable modem's MAC (Media Access Control) binding needs to be released and renewed so it can provide an IP address (and Internet) to the Router. This can typically be done using the following steps: 1. Unplug the power from both your router and cable modem 2. Unplug the coax cable from the modem 3. Re-connect power ONLY to your cable modem 4. Wait until the cable modem is fully booted, then re-connect coax 5. Re-connect power to the router and connect it to the modem via Ethernet This process should release and renew the MAC binding so your modem can provide connectivity to the router. If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.
