About this item

Highlights

  • Pasture-raised: each of our hens enjoys a minimum of 108 square feet of roaming room in open pastures.
  • Outdoor access, year-round: pasture-raised eggs are laid by hens that spend their days outdoors roaming the pastures as they please, from sun-up to sun-down.
  • From Small Family Farms: We began as a single-family farm. Today, we work with approximately 300+ family farms that give our hens the outdoor lifestyle they deserve.
  • Have you traced your eggs back to the farm they came from? On the side of each carton, you’ll find the farm name of where your actual eggs were laid!
  • Vital Farms is a Certified B Corporation with a purpose to improve the lives of people, animals, and the planet through food.

Description

Q: Are these pasteurized?

submitted by Mia - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Mia, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. As is the case for most in shell eggs, our raw in shell eggs are not pasteurized. If you have to crack one of our products open, it is not pasteurized. Our liquid whole egg and the cream used to make our butter is pasteurized. For additional information on safe food handling of shell eggs (raw and cooked), we recommend visiting this USDA site: https://tinyurl.com/yyvdn2cu

Q: How long are your eggs good for in the fridge? We have a 6 month old son that eats 2 eggs a day. Thinking of two cartons worth

submitted by Packing - 7 months ago
  • A: Vital Farms recommendation and the safest route is to always consume your eggs prior to the listed date on packaging. The USDA states that you can consume eggs for up to 3–5 weeks after purchase.

submitted bySLA - 6 months ago
  • A: Hi there! While eggs can last past the date on the carton, our recommendation and the safest route is always to consume them prior to that expiration date listed on the carton to ensure you are getting the freshest eggs. We always defer to the USDA's suggestion for safe consumption of eggs, and they suggest you can consume eggs for up to 3-5 weeks after bringing them home and storing them properly, but remember to always trust your senses first and foremost. You can find more information on the safe handling of eggs on the USDA website here - https://ask.usda.gov/s/article/How-long-can-you-store-eggs-in-the-refrigerator Please email us at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any further questions.

Q: Are Vital Farm Pasture eggs soy-free and corn-free ?

submitted by Alice - 7 months ago
  • A: Vital Farms hens spend their days foraging in the pastures but also recieve supplemental feed, consisting primarily of corn and unprocessed soybean meal.

submitted bySLA - 6 months ago
  • A: Hi Alice, Our hens spend their days foraging in the pastures, seeking out native and seasonal grasses like clover, rye, and wild onion. They don’t stop with plants, though! You’ll often catch our girls munching on a grasshopper or snacking on a worm. Alongside the food they forage, our girls receive supplemental feed. The supplemental feed consists primarily of corn and soybean meal, which the hens need for protein, as well as additional natural ingredients including paprika and marigold, which, along with their outdoor snacks, help the hens produce eggs with deep orange yolks that our consumers prefer. Our supplemental feed is developed by an animal nutritionist, ensuring the girls receive all the nutrients they need to support their health, active lifestyles, and overall well-being. Please email us at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any other questions.

Q: are these eggs 100% grass fed and grass finished in the pasture?

submitted by parker - 20 days ago
  • A: Hi Parker, thank you for reaching out to us! Our hens spend their days foraging in the pastures, seeking out native and seasonal grasses like clover, rye, and wild onion. Hens are monogastric omnivores and are well adapted to a diet that contains grains and seeds - they love to forage and pick them out in the fields - and the main ingredients of the supplemental feed, corn and soybean, reflect that biological preference. They thrive on it, and without the carbs and very specific amino acids and proteins, they would not be able to lay eggs. The only chickens that will live solely off pasture are wild chickens. None of the hens our farmers raise are solely pasture-fed as they are not sheep or other ruminants. Pasture raised is not and cannot be the same as grass-fed (or even solely pasture-fed) as chickens only have one stomach like us. Sheep (and other ruminants) can survive off grass alone, but laying hens are a domesticated breed with only one stomach and this means that they need a quite precise combination of proteins, amino acids, and carbohydrates in order to lay consistently. They simply need more calories and protein than the pastures will themselves provide in order to lay. We hope this helps, and please feel free to email us at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any additional questions.

I don't need to say which eggs are Vital Farms in the photo. The eggs on the right just even look so much healthier with the orangey color; and are so much more flavorful. The size of the eggs is actually large like all large eggs used to be. The other eggs are also pasture-raised.

There was once a time when you didn’t have to write reviews on eggs. There was a time when you could look at the carton, read it, & know exactly what you were getting & what you find when you cracked open that first egg. Unfortunately we are living in different times. I have seen companies I love & trust- companies I’ve been buying eggs from for years- start sending out subpar eggs. I don’t spend $7 for only a brown shell. I spend $7 for whats inside the shell. If I’m spending $7+ on eggs- they better be the best dang eggs. They better not taste the same as the $2 white eggs, or else I might as well spend $2. All this to say that as of this moment, VitalFarms is the only company I can trust. Through this egg fiasco, they have consistently put out GREAT eggs with no price increase & no lack in quality. When you pay $7 for eggs you are getting $7 eggs! The yolks are orange, they’ve always been orange & they’re still orange. They taste the same as they tasted 5 years ago. Thank you VitalFarms for staying consistent! I look forward to your eggs & the consistency & reliability they bring in this unstable time. It really is the small things in life. You have made me a lifelong customer.

Our favorite brand. The yolks are bigger and are deeper richer color than other eggs. They taste much better too and are very fresh. You will not be disappointed. Definitely worth it. Side note: Love that you can you watch the specific farm that produced the carton online - the name is stamped onto the carton. You can see what the farm actually looks like and the hens roaming around.

Hi LL, Thanks for your feedback. We can assure you that nothing about our feed has changed. While other egg producers won't share what's in their "custom blend" supplemental feed, we're very transparent about what our hens eat on our website's FAQ page so you can make the best food decisions for yourself and your family. Vital Farms hens spend their days foraging in the pastures, seeking out native and seasonal grasses like clover, rye, and wild onion. They don’t stop with plants, though. Price gouged with no explanation
1 reply from Vital Farms team team - 2 months ago
Hi there! Thanks for checking in. We believe our price reflects the great amount of care and hard work from our farmers that goes into raising their hens humanely. There are extra costs associated with keeping our barn doors open year-round (especially in the cooler winter months when the barns have to be heated), feeding the girls the right supplemental feed and so much more. We offer 3 different varieties of eggs in hopes that our products will be more accessible to you. We've also noted that egg prices are currently fluctuating across the country due to low industry inventory caused by Avian Influenza. Our retailer partners set the final pricing that you see on shelf. We recommend speaking with your local store's management to find out more about recent changes in pricing.
