Do Not Recommend for Flour

I bought the dry grains container specifically to make flour from wheatberries. There are a lot of reasons to avoid store bought flour, and there are a lot of ways to make flour at home. I already had and adored the Vitamix, so I thought, why not add this to my arsenal? But immediately upon using the dry grains container for my wheatberries, I noticed that it started to look textured on the bottom third of the container. Look at the photo below. This texture is happening because as the grains knock into the inside walls of the container, they make tiny dents / chips in the plastic. I am nervous that microplastics are entering my food because of this. I am a loyal Vitamix user and always tell people to get a Vitamix 5200 as opposed to Ninja or other lesser blenders. The 32-ounce Dry Grains Container is the only thing that makes me pause and say, "...but there is this issue with the plastic pockmarking and potentially releasing plastic particles into your food." I don't have this problem with the regular container. For making flour from wheatberries, I do not recommend this product and instead would urge you to spend the money on a home mill, which I will be doing ASAP.
Does not grind fine enough

I am very disappointed in my dry grains container. I've had my Vitamix for 3 years and have loved it, so I recently purchased the dry container because I wanted to make my own flours. I tried to grind wheat berries and could just not get a fine powder, so I thought maybe it was not made for that purpose, even though it is advertised as a DRY GRAINS container. However, today I attempted to grind oatmeal into a fine powder and, after stirring and grinding 3 times it was still very grainy. My smooth cake batter is NOT smooth at all. I had better results when using my original container. I feel like the grain container is a waste of my money. So unfortunate.

Hi there! When blending in the Dry Grains container, be sure that you do not put more than 1.5 cups of wheat berries in the container at time, this will allow that grains to have room to move and blend properly. Also be sure to take the machine to its highest speed for best results. If you are still having trouble getting the desired texture, please call us at 1-800-848-2649, we would be happy to further assist.

I wanted a way to make our own grain cereal to introduce our baby to new flavors and nutrients without using processed packaged products. I didn't know I needed this container until I had it. In seconds in turns any grain we had in the house into a fine flour that can be used in so many different ways. Not only do we use it for our baby, we also use it for our own oat, barley, rye, rice, etc flour. A must have if you are wanting to avoid processed foods.

It is so nice to have a container specifically designed for dry grinding! Not only do the special blade do a much better job of dry grinding than the standard blades, but it is nice to have a container dedicated to the purpose that I don't mind the haze inside the container that ultimately appears from all the hard particles scratching the interior of the container

The container came with the Vitamix 750 Pro I purchased. I have used the container to grind regular rice & glutinous rice. I was disappointed that the consistency was not as "powdery" as store bought rice flour. I have not tried other grains.

I really love that I can make flours out of wheat berries, tapioca pearls, rice, and lentils! I notice sometimes there are unblended wheat berries even after blending for 1 minute. I can't blend longer, or else the flour will get too hot and get wet w/ condensation.

I tried using the regular container but you only get the fine flour texture with this blade design. It works best with smaller quantities. I use just a cup to make flour so you dont need the full size container. I also use it to blend my dry ingredients for my recipes and spice mixes.

great container but you have to use small amounts of food for it not to cake in the bottom. It is still better than the original container for powdering dry foods. I'm glad I got it

So worth the price! Blended all types of wheat and in less than a minute made beautiful silly flour. I actually bought the wrong one but when I called customer service she handled everything from return to reorder and had the correct container in a few days
