With arthritic hands some days i had challenges using it while my studens love it. Thought it was the best thing since sliced cheese. They get a great point, balances well on their desk or lap. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The iPoint Aura battery operated pencil sharpener is compact, convenient, and quiet. At 6” high and 2” square, it doesn’t require much space. You’ll need 4 AA batteries. I love the clear cover that easily allows me to see when the shavings need to be emptied. It quickly yields a nice sharp point and clean sides. Lesser quality pencils may get chewed down quite a bit as their leads tend to break too easily, but decent quality pencils have very little waste. A few of my lower quality pencils had leads break off and get stuck inside the blade mechanism. The battery-powered motor is quieter than expected. I also appreciate the pop-top canister that is less messy to empty - sort of like the easy release button for many of the bagless vacuum cleaners. Also, please note that this opener has a standard sized opening and will not accommodate the larger primary size pencils.

The Aura is easy to use, simply insert your pencil in the top and it comes out perfectly sharpened about 5 seconds later. The Aura takes up very little desk space making it perfect for students of all ages and adults who are looking for a minimalist vibe. The clear shaving collection tube lets you easily know when it needs to be emptied, which is as simple as opening the top and dumping out the contents. I've rated it with four stars becasue two hands are needed to operate this pencil sharpener as it will spin around while sharpening if you don't use one hand to hold it in place. It is definitley designed as a personal shapener and not meant for high usage such as in a classroom.

The size is great for space savings and no cord to get in the way. Easy pop-top for dumping the shavings. Clear to see when it is full. Top detaches for easy cleaning. Has a sensor for automatic shut-off but I have not noticed if that works.
