Back to the Roots Organic All-Purpose Potting Mix is a great soil for herbs, veggies, fruits, and flowers in pots, in the ground, or in a raised bed or container! This soil blend contains natural, organic, and nutritious fertilizer as well as moisture-retaining coconut coir and beneficial mycorrhizae for enhanced root growth. Our All-Purpose Potting Mix is peat-free, meaning that instead of imported peat, the base of our soils is made from upcycled plant matter and wood fines. A: Hello! Our soils are made from processed forest products, coir, limestone, fertilizer, mycorrhizae, and moisture-balancing yucca. Depending on the soil bag, the organic fertilizers could have ingredients derived from milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy. Please read through each soil bag's exact ingredients in case you have any allergies to any of these ingredients. Growing tomatoes and basil indoors in pots, noticed all three pots have these mica caps. Apparently it's not bad for plants but not a huge fan of this at all. Would probably not purchase again.

I liked that the soil is organic and a rich black color. However, as soon as I opened the bag, dozens of gnats flew out. I ended up discarding the entire bag because I could not risk gnats on my screened-in lanai or inside my home. Had such hope. I can or cannot recommend it for planting as I never used it. But I doubt I would purchase again based on the number of gnats.

It depends on what you’re growing, if you’re growing tomatoes or any kind of peppers from seedling, they will not thrive or grow. My tomatoes, jalapeños, and bell peppers have all stalled. It’s been over a month and they have no true leaves. However, for my zucchini, yellow squash, watermelon and cantaloupe, they’re growing just fine. Not sure what it is. But just be careful about what you’re growing.

I plan to use some to start seedlings, but I tested it by adding some to my snake plant. Snakey is small, and has a mix of succulent and regular soils. This will add some additional nutrients to snakey’s life and help with growth. Great product! Recommend!!

It is very eco-friendly and smells natural. The only thing I did not like is it is only half a bag so it doesn't seem you are getting your moneys worth.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After the winter we’ve had, I’ve been itching to get my gardening gloves on and begin planting for spring. I thought that I would love how this soil is versatile for both indoor and outdoor plants (because I often need it for both), but after opening the bag and seeing a couple of fungus gnats fly out, I’m reserving this exclusively for my outdoor garden. I’m going to choose to overlook the gnats though, because of how dark and rich this soil looks, smells, and feels. I noticed some other reviews state that the composition of this mix is very woody with lots of twigs, but I’m happy to report that is not the case with my bag, which seems like just high quality soil. And while it will take some time to see how my plants like this particular brand, I am happy that it’s organic, especially for my herbs.

I did not have a fungus gnat problem like others, but I still would give this soil zero stars if I could. I repotted about 8 plants in this and all of them nearly died until I finally realized they weren’t getting any water! The top of the soil looks like they’re watered, but the water isn’t actually going into the soil at all, just going down the sides and draining right through. My soil is BONE DRY. I have to literally soak all my plants in water and poke holes in the soil for any of the water to finally absorb. I will be repotting everything in better soil when I get the chance. Waste of money!

I would not suggest buying this soil for anything other than to mix into ground soil for added nutrients. I used this in potting and it caused mold growth, had poor drainage, and I’m pretty sure it had gnats. I would recommend the indoor potting mix from the same brand, because at least that ones composition makes sense.

After using this soil I started to notice gnats in my home. After taking a look at the bag I realized there were gnats inside! I now have to deal with getting rid of this gnat infestation that I can only hope didn’t spread to any of my other plants. Do not buy!
