Description

Back to the Roots Organic Indoor Potting Mix Specialty Blend is specially formulated for indoor potted plants. In addition to organic all-purpose plant food, this specialty blend contains perlite for aeration and drainage, coconut coir and yucca extract for moisture control, and dolomitic limestone to help adjust pH. Plus, it has one of nature's most powerful growing ingredients: root-boosting mycorrhizae. Since it's made without bark or compost, it's less prone to indoor gnats. Like all Back to the Roots garden products, this potting soil is peat-free, so it doesn't contribute to harmful greenhouse emissions like some other brands. Pair this soil mix with other Back to the Roots plant products, like seeds, potting soils, and plant foods, for a completely organic solution. The Back to the Roots Organic Indoor Potting Mix Specialty Blend is a great addition to your at-home gardening supplies!

Q: Is this soil suitable fo Striped Barbados Lily Amaryllis?

submitted by countrygirl43 - 4 months ago
  • A: Hi There! Striped Barbados Lily Amaryllis does well with well-draining soil with good organic matter and perlite for drainage. Our Organic Indoor Potting Mix for Houseplants would be a good choice, and you could always add additional perlite to allow for extra drainage and breathability if you feel it's needed. Please reach out at contact@backtotheroots.com with further questions or concerns!

Q: I'm needing good indoor soil without gnats. Most soils have gnats, eggs etc. How is your soil?

submitted by Sue - 10 months ago
  • A: Hi Sue! Our Organic Indoor Potting Mix for Houseplants is a coco coir mix, and because it doesn't have local substrate, it's less prone to fungus gnats. If you have questions or concerns with your bag, please reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com; we are here to help you grow. Bottom-watering is a great way to prevent gnats from getting in, too!

Q: This was not dry like soil usually is. Was it supposed to feel wet? Thnak you.

submitted by Mary - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Mary! The Indoor Potting Mix is a coco coir mix, so it will feel different, but it shouldn't be wet. Please reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com, we'd love to help you and would be happy to send a replacement as needed.

Summary of reviews

The product has received mixed feedback from guests, with some praising its organic composition and moisture retention, while others express concerns about pests and poor quality. Many guests appreciate its lightweight and fluffy texture, which aids in plant growth, especially for indoor plants. However, issues like fungus gnats and inconsistent quality have led to dissatisfaction. Overall, it seems to work well for some plants but may not be suitable for all.

I really like the composition and draining qualities of this soil!! Definitely helps keep several of my indoor plants alive by avoiding the dreaded root rot! I also really really like that it does not seem to attract or become a breeding ground for gnats or other pesky pests. My only dislike is that the soil really needs worked in a bit at first, but that’s moreso a personal aesthetic preference.

Bought my plant back to life! I’ve had a Peace Lilly for 18 months and put just enough dirt at the top of the pot and it started sprouting more leaves! I plan to buy more when I repot it in the spring

Mostly coco coir and will do nothing but cause root rot. Only get this if you want to add it to a super chunky mix.

Don't buy it if there are any bugs nearby. Purchased this soil to repot a growing plant. The dirt was infested with fungus knats and now the plant has to live outdoors. So much for overpriced indoor soil.

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. The potting soil has a rich earthy smell. It is loose, and it has large clumps. That seems good for the roots so far. The soil holds a lot of moisture. So, be careful not to over water when using this potting soil. My spider plant is doing well. I'm satisfied with the potting soil.

This is the driest, sandiest, clumpiest dirt taken off the side of the road and resold to poor consumers. Don’t buy this garbage sand and dirt mix for your poor plants, it’s not good quality at all.

I bought this on a whim to try it out…5 bags. 😒 This might be some of the worst “soil” I’ve ever purchased, and that’s including Miracle Grow. It doesn’t have the consistency of any soils I have ever purchased or mixed myself. It’s incredibly dry, comes in huge clumps, and has a really bad odor. I even tried making a mix with it myself and just find it to be a sub par product. I’ll be returning the unopened bags, but avoid this one in general.

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. Not a huge fan of this soil, doesn't seem like a very good value for the cost. I do appreciate the attempt at creating a good soil specifically for indoor plants but honestly regular potting soil works just as good for a fraction of the cost. The seed I started in this soil did fine but there wasn't a ton of soil in the bag so I could only do a few small pots. The coconut fibers are a bit of a strange replacement for peat and they work just ok.
