The Apple Pencil (1st Generation) was introduced in 2015 and updated in 2018. The Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) was released in 2021, while the Apple Pencil (USB-C) arrived in November 2023. Most recently the Apple Pencil Pro landed in May 2024.

A: This is the "no Gen assigned" pencil :) . It's AFTER 1st Gen & 2nd Gen and SHOULD be the 3rd Gen but NOPE. It's the USB-C "Gen" lol! After USB-C "Gen" is called Pro, abandoning Generation altogether.

A: They go: 1st generation, 2nd generation, USB-C "generation", then Pro "generation". Don't try to make sense of it but there are actually 4 generations...only 2 have the generation 'nomenclature'.

Stopped charging after 4 months
After 4 months my pencil stopped charging and now doesn’t work. For $70 this should last longer. I barely used it and the research says it stops taking a charge if not regularly charged.

No instructions
It's fine, it does what it's supposed to do. My issue is that it doesn't include ANY instructions about how to set it up or use it. For an $80.00+ item, that's unacceptable. So to save you all some trouble, if you have an A16 it IS compatible but in order to pair it you need to turn on Bluetooth, then hook it up to the IPad using a (not included) USB cord. As far as actually using it is concerned, I can't help you. So far all I've been able to figure out is how to use it to write something in the notepad.
