Survive the Island is a remake of an old game I played as a child. As an adult, I found this game to be quite involved. We attempted to play it on three occasions , first as a family and then with friends and their kids. It says the game is for ages 8 and up but I think the kids probably have to be a bit older. It’s not that they can’t understand the game but the steps each turn are somewhat complicated. It’s also not a great quick, party game for this reason. The round can be relatively fast but the time it takes people to learn the game is not. We played with age range 8-10. Both kids and adults kept forgetting steps and having to go back. The kids were getting frustrated and no one was having a good time on any of the occasions we tried. The kids also kept talking about how the sharks are green and the lizard monsters are blue. I think with some patience this game would be fun but now after these experiences, no one else wants to play with me. It will be awhile before we try again
Slightly complex setup, lots of moving pieces to keep track of, but engaging once all is sorted out!

Engaging game, but instructions are complex, start with a practice game. From setting up the tiles to figuring out when to roll the die, to how the meeples move, it is a lot. Definitely recommend for children who are comfortable reading detailed instructions or who have an adult to help them play the game. The island is sinking, and with each players turn, you need to try and escape the sinking island. The usual obstacles stand in your way, water, creatures and a limited number of life rafts, all work against you as you race your opponents off the sinking island. The game ends when three volcanoes are revealed, so a limited and unknown amount of time until your adventurers are left behind!

This was a fun game overall. The only downside is that the setup took a bit of a long time. It also took some time to get through the directions. Once we got the hang of it, it was enjoyable. It is a nice change of pace and a different kind of game.

This was a really fun game, quick and easy to set up, easy to understand, and everyone enjoyed it. It took us about an hour from start to finish, but now that we know the rules, I'm sure play will go quicker next time.

I played Survive the Island with my daughter. It was a little complicated to set up and took us a while to figure things out. We did have fun playing the game and will definitely bring it out at holidays & hangouts. However, the rules need to be a little clearer for players to understand the characters' strengths and weaknesses, and how to win the game.

This board game is perfect for families large and small! I played mostly with my 9-year-old son and he really enjoyed imaging being on the island, saving the survivors, and avoiding the sea monsters and Kaiju. What's great about this is there are video instructions you can use to help learn how to play. The creatures, meeples and rafts are made of a quality wood/plastic that are durable. The player cards/guides are flimsier paper, but they don't get used often and are just for reference during a player's turn. The game board is thick and durable and the container itself is perfect for storing the different pieces. I will say the bags for the pieces could have been better. They're just small paper bags, but it works. Overall, fun and enjoyable for larger groups!

This game is so fun! I played it with my little ones who didn’t quite understand it and then with adults and we played how it should be played. It’s very entertaining and doesn’t last forever like other games. We all really enjoyed it, it takes a little bit to grasp the rules like every new game but once you understand it it’s fun!
Too complex for my liking

I received this product for free from the Hey, Bullseye sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Upon getting this game it looked really interesting to me- I was setting this up as a two player game so had to follow the directions for a two player. The setup instructions are really clear , however playing the game following those instructions are not as clear to me. There is a lot of different things you can do but to me the instructions on what you can / can’t do are not clear at all. I read through the instructions for a second time and I am Still not very clear on if we actually played this game right. This game is definitely for an older audience and not for children only because of its complexity. The instructions could be a lot more clear on how a move is made. Overall this is not really a game for me.

A fun wonderful game for families ! I used to own the old version back in the day and let me tell you this is so much fun! My kids loved it and not to hard for them at all. Took a while at the beginning to learn all the rules but after that it’s easy to play !

Really fun strategy game! It’s games like this that make me wish we could find a version that my younger kids could play along with as this is definitely geared towards seven and older even though I think it says 10 and up on the box. I like that it forces players to make choices.
Better for older kids

Fun for our 11 year old but my 8 year old lost interest after about 20 minutes. My 11 year old had more fun playing it with a group of her peers than we did playing as a family. So depends on the group and attention spans as the game can truly last 45 minutes or more.

Fun adventure game that kept my son off the ipad and that means a lot to me. We loved taking turns trying to survive the obstacles in the island. I recommend it to families for some old fashioned good time.

This game did take some time to review all of the rules, and we use them to refer to ad we played, but we picked up on it rather quickly. There are a lot of pieces, which can be a pain to keep track of.

The game is to survive the island with your teammates. Three of our kids play this game . Our oldest plays with her 11 year old and 9 year old siblings. Try not to get ate by the animals in the game. You get a single dice to roll.

If you and your family are looking for a fun new game, check out Survive the Island! This strategy game has a bit of a learning curve, but it’s not too complex. You have to get all your characters safely off the island and onto land. Beware of sea serpents, sharks, and kaijus. Oh and also, the island is shrinking! Every character rescued has a certain value point that will only be revealed at the end of the game. This game is lively and fun. It’s a bit complicated, but it doesn’t take too long to get the hang of or play; making it a perfect new addition to family game night. I’d recommend it for ages 8 and up. Warning-you will want to play this game again!!!

This is the second game I’ve played from this company and I’m always in awe of the complex layers of game play and the high quality of the game materials. Painted wooden pieces, thick chipboard - it’s a quality game that will last! The gameplay is a little complex and took us a bit to get the hang of (the video helped a ton!), but it was fun once we got rolling!
