Summary of reviews
The toaster offers a sleek design and features like a bit more button and a lift and look option, making it convenient for various types of bread. However, many guests have reported issues with uneven toasting, unreliable heating elements, and flimsy controls. While some appreciate its performance for bagels and thick slices, others express disappointment in its durability and consistency, leading to mixed experiences overall.

I inconsistent toasting

I bought this model and wish I”d read some of the review before buying it. I thought I was buying a high end toaster, but it has been very in consistent. It seemed to work OK in the beginning, now we can’t get a toasty slice - it just comes out warm even after repeated “bit more” tries. Then, the temperature selector lever broke off. I purchased at end of January this year from this website. Can you help me get a refund or replacement?

I bought this toaster and we gave it every chance. It can’t toast a piece of bread evenly and mostly burns it. Large pieces don’t cook in the center do to a gap in the elements. I called to return it and their solution was to send me the same toaster. It’s a flawed design!! They can keep sending me new ones and they keep not working. Don’t buy the toaster.

My toaster oven that I bought in 1992 finally gave in and I came across this toaster and thought it would be great for my family as we toast bread/bagels every day. I received it as a "gift" to myself. Initially, it worked great. Now it has been 4 months, it started to burn the sliced bread or bagel if i use the "a bit more" funcion. I now use the lowest setting to prevent burning the edges of the bagel and stopped using the "a bit more" function for the sliced bread as it would just burnt. The crumb tray is great but there are still lots of crumbs that within the toaster after I empty the tray and I would unplug and use a soft brush like the "basting" brush trying to brush the crumbs out. It trips the GFI intermittently. It happened again this morning and I saw a bit of the burn marks insdie the toaster and not sure where it came from as I was only toasting sliced bread. Now I am reluctant to plug it back in. I wish I had read the review before purchasing. I was only going by the "brand" name. Very disappointed. I gave two stars because it was great when it worked.

Good toaster but some parts are inferior for their usage

Great Toaster but within a month of using it, the browning handle broke off. It was made of plastic which seems absurd as it's a constant moving part and should be made from metal. We contacted Breville and they were very helpful with a replacement. Very nice to deal with. Overall the toaster is a good product but the browning switch needs to be redesigned

We thought since my mom's Breville has been so good for ten years, I would splurge on a decent toaster (instead of buying a cheap one every 2 years). This one, however, isn't great. We eat a lot of big pieces of sourdough, so I thought a big slot would help but it's really just underwhelmingly designed. The elements are too hot, so the setting at "2" is under toasted, while slightly above "2" is burnt. (Don't know why it even goes up tot "5"!)

While this toaster worked it was fantastic. I also have the kettle which is amazing too. Unfortunately, after only two years the toaster died, one of the sides had a flash of fire and then that side stopped working all together. It doesn't seem safe to keep using. For the price, two years isn't very long at all. Very disappointed.

I thought I was getting a high quality toaster I could use for our homemade loaves, but we could not find a setting that would make it toast properly. All through the range, the bread would be warm but not toasted. When we got to the highest settings, the bread would come out either burned, or burned at the top and not toasted for the rest. I very rarely return purchases, but had to return this. Most expensive useless toaster I have ever seen. I gave Breville a second chance and bought a Die-cast Smart Toaster (2 long slices), and that one works very well. @Breville, I think you should consider retiring this model. It is a reputation killer.

There is some uneven toasting as the doneness level is raised. As a result, I have started using a level 2+ setting and then the "a bit more button" to get to the doneness I want. I have found that I need to use tongs to remove english muffins and shorter pieces of toast. The 3-prone cord is a good length and the finger hole in the plug makes it easy to remove from the outlet so that the crumb tray can be emptied properly.

Why would you make a long slot toaster and then not have it heat in the middle?

Bought this for my dad who absolutely loved it until a few months ago, the lever stopped working. When you press it to slide the bread down to toast, it doesn’t hold. VERY disappointed as I thought buying such a highly reputable brand and paying this much for a toaster would mean it would last at least a number of years.

I bought this Breville product for the first time. My goal was to not have to purchase another toaster for years to come. Sadly after 6 mos of use the knob snapped off (refer to other reviews with the same complaint). Wish I had read the reviews prior to purchase since this appears to be a common occurance with this specific toaster.

Hi i just got this toaster from my parents who bought it but stopped using it and went back to their toaster oven. So they offered me to take it. I tried it and i can see the problem it has is similar to what many other commented on - The inside elements are not turning on in toast mode and even the outside elements dont light up in the center of the toaster...disappointing

Dumb programming on bit more and multiple toast cycles
3 out of 5 stars
Paul burns toast - 9 months ago
originally posted on breville.com
Programming dumbness. If I want to add time to a toast in progress cycle I'll move the slide bar over. If I want to add a tiny amount of brown to a finished cycle I'll hit a bit more. However if you depress the lever and then hit a bit more you won't be adding a small amount of time for a tiny bit more browning. You'll be burning toast if you forget to touch the button BEFORE depressing the lever. Sounds silly but when you're making breakfast for four it's east to get the sequence out of order. REMOVE the dumb adding extra time while toasting function from this button. If I want more time WHILE something is toasting I can slide the lever over. Re program that button to only allow the tiny amount of time for the cycle. The slider takes care now of adding time during toasting---that NO ONE USES. Also if I toast a second round of times right after the first, the toaster is so hot that although I have the same setting the second toast batch will be burned. Programming should automatically reduce cycle time on second batch of that cycle is started within two minutes of first batch.

We make toast maybe once per week and have had two of these die on us in less then 3 years. The lever/toast will not stay down. We keep the unit clean and unplug it after each use. This is the second one same exact issue on both units. Warranty only last 1 year sorry Breville but the quality is terrible.

I have this exact toaster. After less than a year it consistently burns the toast! So disappointed, since I have never paid that much for any toaster and has a better expectation level for this toaster versus cheaper brands. I threw away 6 pieces of burnt toast this morning even after turning the lever down low.

I’ve had the toaster for 1.5 years and I loved it but then the toast level knob broke off (a cheap piece of plastic) and it is nearly impossible to move without it. We have passed the 1 year warranty so are stuck with this and it feels like a waste of such an expensive toaster to be taken down by such a cheap part..
