Summary of reviews

This mineral sunscreen is praised for its sun protection capabilities, especially for sensitive skin, but it has a significant white cast that many guests find difficult to blend. While it effectively prevents sunburn, the thick, chalky texture and difficulty in application make it less suitable for those with darker skin tones or those seeking a sheer finish. Ideal for outdoor activities, it may not be the best choice for daily wear under makeup.

This left the worst white cast on my face that I have ever seen. It took me using a different SPF with tint in it to even it out just a little. Would not recommend.

I have sensitive skin and generally trust this brand their face moisturizer with 35 SPF is great and I have been using it for years and it’s one of the only things that works on my face. So I thought getting sunscreen from them makes sense. However, this felt terrible on my face and didn’t soak or rub in at all. It felt and looked like putting a layer of white glue or paint over my skin. It didn’t spread easily it made my skin feel so bad and tacky/sticky it almost hurt. I have dry sensitive skin so this may work for less sensitive or more oil prone skin idk but it did work at all for me. I don’t know how effective it is in the sun because I had to wash it off almost immediately. Again I love and trust this brand for other products so if this isn’t good for you maybe try something else by them it’s not the whole brand. Maybe this will work for other skin types.

    Horrible white cast

I wear sunscreen under my make-up every day and I love Cetaphil's other skincare products, so I thought I would try their sunscreen too. I tried it for the first time this morning and when I tell you it gave me the most atrocious white cast I've ever seen, I mean it. I am very pale, so I can't image what this would look like on someone with even a slightly darker skin tone than me. I had to wipe it off, but I am still finding dry, white residue on my hands. I'm sure the sun protection is fine, but it is completely unwearable.

This product gave me and my family a rash. I didn't expect that from mineral sunscreen at all. The white cast , on the other hand, is to be expected and not surprising. I wasn't able to wash it off no matter how hard I've tried though, hopefully it comes off eventually.

Horrible layer of white - very difficult to rub in. Embarrassed at a holiday gathering when in a lit room & finally a teenager pointed out ‘white stuff’ in eyebrows & caked in wrinkles. Sorry I spent a good amount of money on this product!! Should get refund & apology.

I'm always in search of new mineral sunscreen and wanted to try this. It leaves an awful white cast and even with alot of moisturizer, still terrible. You have to continue to run until it goes away. The best mineral sunscreen so far I've tried with minimal white cast is the La Posay Anthelios mineral ULTRA LIGHT FLUID sunscreen SPF 50.

While the sunscreen does leave a bit of a white cast (because that’s what mineral sunscreen is like) I purchased this for my tattoos to protect them more heavily, and it is definitely the best drugstore brand mineral sunscreen I’ve tried. You just need to use less than you think and take your time blending it in. It will make you paler, but the point is the block the sun and not soak chemicals into your skin. I don’t think other people who reviewed the sunscreen know what mineral sunscreen is.

This is the worst sunscreen I've ever tried. I'm already a light skinned person and it made me look like I was wearing white face makeup. I had to SCRUB to get it to blend and it never fully did. It probably protects you from the sun because it creates a mask. I'll never buy this again.

Horrible, horrible product. As others mentioned it leaves a white residue that just does not come off.. I had to go to a bathroom so that I could stop looking like Casper, and even with water it’s hard to rub off Hope it didn’t ruin my shorts, which also have the crappy residue on them.

I have used Cetaphil face cleanser for years, so I decided to try their sunscreen and was very disappointed. It leaves a white cast on your skin that does not disappear no matter how much you try to rub it in. Waste of money. Used it twice with the same result. Will throw it away. It's that bad.

I bought this not realizing it was mineral, so that’s on me, but it is in no way sheer. I was shocked when I looked in the mirror halfway through rubbing it in and started laughing, because it was that bad. I looked like a ghost! hahaha the bluish tint is actually pretty significant and does not fade hours later. Do not get this unless you’re pretty white and will be applying a slightly too warm/dark foundation over it. This is what happens when I don’t compare reviews in-store for products lol 🙃. A customer can’t casually buy anything anymore.

The white cast is honestly the least of my worries with this. It's so thick, it doesn't blend at all. It sits on top of your skin, it's patchy, and it doesn't look better over time. "Sheer" is a flat out lie. Whoever rated this more then 1 star MUST be getting paid for a review because this is beyond outrageous. Especially for $13.

The texture when first applied onto your hands feels watery and hydrating. However, once you try to apply it it becomes rather hard and more like trying to rub mud on your face. It doesn’t blend well into your skin and takes a lot of rubbing to get it evenly distributed, which can be rough for people with sensitive skin. If you’re a person of color or just tan, it leaves a visible white cast on your face even though the product says it’s meant to be sheer. It would likely work for those who are on the pale side, but this sunscreen is not meant for me.

It protects from burns but has a major white cast and does not run in well. Use sparingly to make the white cast less. As a result, this is much more of a beach/outdoor sports sunscreen and not something you’d want to wear under makeup or to work. Little kids with very light skin probably won’t care. Doesn’t really have a smell in my opinion. Not greasy. More of a chalky texture.
