A: You can. You would want to get a close to size as you rug is. It is easily to trim down.

A: We have tested this rug pad on all Mohawk flooring types and have not had any adverse reactions to date. If your flooring is from another manufacturer, we recommend checking with them if there are any specific things they advise against. This item is made of cellulose coated polyester with an acrylic coating.

A: The Comfort Grip Rug Pad Ivory - Mohawk Home is made to be used on flooring. We do not recommend using rug pad for other than it's intended use.

Q: Is this rug pad safe for Luxury Plank Vinyl flooring? Will it have a chemical reaction and discolor the floor? (I had a polypropylene rug that caused a problem before.)

A: Hi Andrea - Great question! The Comfort Grip Rug Pad contains Cellulose Coated Polyester with Acrylic Coating. The safest thing for the guest to do would be to contact their flooring manufacturer to make sure that this product is approved for use, as we cannot say with 100% certainty that it is safe for all types of floors since we can’t possibly test all manufacturers flooring. A: HI mickey! While all Mohawk Home products have been tested and approved for use on Mohawk flooring, we cannot guarantee the safety of our mats or rugs on other types of flooring. The safest thing to do would be to contact your flooring manufacturer to make sure that this product is approved for use.

For the cost it’s not bad. Like others have said, the smell is atrocious. I had to keep the patio door open for several days to off gas the smell. It has gotten better after day 5. I also tried to tape down the rug pad with painting tape so that it didn’t move around when I place the rug… pretty large amounts of the pad came off on the tape which was disappointing. If you’re looking for something cushioning for relatively cheap compared to the felt and rubber backed ones this is it. But if you can shell out a bit more for the better quality do that instead.

The grip does a fabulous job of keeping the rug in place. That being said- when you first open the package- the chemical smell is terrible. You will want to air it out outside for several hours.

Bought this along with a small threshold welcome rug. The rug didn’t slide itself on hardwood floor, but then added the grip rug and it extremely slippery.

Thanks for sharing the feedback on our rug pad products. Our non-skid backing does have a distinct smell from the rubber backing. This smell is inherent to the product and is considered part of the normal process and will typically dissipate over a couple days. We test this product routinely to make sure it is safe for our customers’ home use. Our rug pad is also sold through our commercial group to schools and office buildings that require Green Label Plus certification from the CRI Carpet and Rug Institute. We complete annual VOC testing to maintain this certification. Recently, we have received numerous complaints across all our selling channels that the odor is more than what we would normally expect. We are taking the complaints seriously and are pursuing several initiatives to determine the root cause of this stronger smell. Based on the information we have to date, we believe the odor is most likely contaminated dye that is added to the latex for the color. This was identified several months back by our vendor, and the dye was returned. It’s possible we have some older inventory that was not disposed of that could have been part of this isolated event. Our quality team is in the process of checking all inventory 3 months or older for the offensive odor and ensure these items are pulled from our shippable inventory. We have pulled sample rug pads from all batches and have tested the items and all items are safe for use. Bought 2 to be used under a couple of rugs that were in wood floors. Worked as expected and prevented the rugs from sliding when walked on. Product is thin enough that you do not feel or see a difference between the areas with the pad and the areas without.

I put this under my 5x7 rug and it does the job. Minimal movement when our 80lbs dogs run across it, so it fit my need. Only thing really that I didn’t like was the smell, pretty awful strong odor that took about a day to fade. Get it on sale if you can, then 100% a good buy.

This worked well for the first day or two, and it fit nicely under our 2x3 entryway rug. However, now it isn’t doing much to keep the rug in place. It slides around and peeks out from under the rug, or gets bunches up so the rug on top feels lumpy. Maybe it would work better on a larger area rug, or somewhere with less traffic. We’re going to switch to the rug tape instead.
