Q: Can this be used to slice cheese?

submitted by JJ - 5 months ago
  • A: Always use the food holder when slicing. 2. Using a mandoline takes some practice. You may not get perfect results right away, but after a few tries, you will be slicing like a pro. 3. To prevent foods from sticking to the mandoline surface when cutting, lightly grease the mandoline with a little cooking oil. 4. Different foods require different pressures when cutting. Softer foods, such as tomatoes, require less pressure, while harder foods, such as butternut squash, call for more pressure. 5. It is easiest to cut foods that are flat on the bottom. Trim rounded edges so they are flush with the cutting surface. 6. Prepare a quick salad or stir-fry with a mix of julienned and sliced vegetables. 7. Prepare fruit or vegetable platters in a flash for your house guests. 8. For coleslaw in a minute, set the control knob to 2. Slice a mix of cabbages and julienne carrots to make a colorful salad tossed with your favorite dressing.

2 key points if you want this to work well

Disappointed - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
I’ve had many mandolins. I’ve used most of those mandolins once. I’ll be using this one a lot. Two key things if you want it to work well and not get the bits of plastic like other reviewers. The first is to not draw the sliding tool further back than in the picture. Take note of the arrows at the forward position of the handle and don’t go further back than the first part of the outer wedge. Number two don’t try and slice the whole (insert produce name) at once unless you’re over a deep bowl. If you’re on a cutting board, take note of how many passes you can make before the product has built up under the slicer. If you go more than that, it will jam up and start breaking your produce. For once? Not disappointed!

Cut two fingers with device. Doctor indicated he has multiple patients per day cutting fingers and hands with same device. Returned item for full refund. Poor design . Item should be recalled for bad design. I’m buying a food processor instead. More money buy worth saving my hands.

Blade is sharp and slices food with little effort. You'll want to rinse this after each use so that food doesn't clog the julienne blades. Needs a better way to store the food holder.

Super easy to use. Good price. The blade seems high quality and there’s a lip on the end that makes it easy to lay on top of a bowl securely while slicing. I slice potatoes super thin with ease.

My first mandoline

The Madeline works as it should. I question the thickness adjustment, but I wanted the thick setting for potato au gratin. I will caution that about 4 or 5 slices and the area is full and will jam. I took the corner of my thumb knuckle off Christmas morning when it jammed and my hand slipped. I will be wearing cut proof gloves each time I use from now on.

Works pretty well but the warnings are important. I sliced into my thumb right off the bat trying to slice an item too small for the holder. Not a bad cut but a good lesson.
