Q: Can the mandolin be taken apart? I'm having trouble cleaning some harder-to-reach areas, and there's mold growing.

submitted by Nigel - 4 months ago
  • A: Hi Nigel, this item isn't able to be taken apart. We suggest using a small detail brush for cleaning the smaller areas.

Q: How do you get the julienne blades to work? Looking at it from the back, it looks like the blades aren't aligned with the perforations

submitted by anon - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi anon, you can adjust the depth of each slice with the “S” turn knob (for use in Julienne mode or straight slice). The depths of slices you can choose from are roughly 2.5mm, 3.25mm and 4mm. The Julienne slices are roughly 4mm wide at any depth. Be sure to use the included food guide and use extra caution when slicing to avoid injuries Hope this helps!

Q: How do youget carrot stain off ? First time I used it and now has orange streeks

submitted by 1ole lady - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi 1ole lady, you can try making a baking soda and water paste, let this sit for about 10 min then hand wash as normal. Another option is to put a little vegetable oil on a paper towel or cotton ball and rub this over the stained plastic. Hope this helps!

Q: It says there are 3 levels of thickness. It would be very helpful to know the actual thickness of the slices, i.e. 1/8", 1/4", 1/2", etc...

submitted by iwtrrty - 3 years ago

This contraption should be illegal. I bought this to slice potatoes for au gratin potatoes. The top green handle type thing is supposed to glide back & forth on the track while holding the item to be sliced. The only thing that was sliced was my finger. I mean, it was a huge chunk of flesh that I succumbed to losing. I probably needed stitches, but was not in a mood to sit for 8+hrs at an ER. I bled for over an hour! It's now a week later & it still hurts. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT! Mid evil contraption vs human-contraption won.

I use this mandolin often - it makes meal prep faster than by paring knife. I like the safety "pusher" that lowers as the vegetable gets smaller and it also does julienne (thin strips)! It's a little less $ than the OXO Hand Held which doesn't do julienne.

Alirenée - 2 years ago
I'm a mother of three that loves to cook. I slice, dice and chop foods all of the time. I thought this would be so easy as the video of this product looked, I watched the video, read the directions etc. I've never cut myself cooking w knives and then I bought this mandolin piece of garbage! First three slices of a large potato in (so not even towards the end closer to the blade) and it got stuck. I tried pushing it through and it sliced my pinky finger deep and I needed 4 stitches! The plastic is so flimsy and there's no guard so it caved down too much trying to much when slicing, getting it stuck. For something that has a blade so freaking sharp, I don't care how lower end it is, that should not happen!!!

KT - 2 years ago
I would not recommend this product. You definitely receive what you pay for. Knowing injuries often occur with mandolines I was cautious to begin with but this product is so low quality caution didn't even matter. It really struggled to cut through Russet potatoes. The guard is too low quality to accurately grasp onto the potato to protect the user. The cheap guard ended up ultimately slipping and causing a pretty severe gash in my thumb despite my best efforts. My fiance took over the prep hoping to salvage dinner and the exact same thing happened to him! Low quality guard wasn't up to the task of a simple small Russet Potato, it slipped off, and caused him to gash his palm open. Lesson learned that going cheap for this item is absolutely not worth it. We threw the item out.

Worked fine slicing potatoes the first time, smooth, easy, quickly. Second time it took more effort. Halfway through the third time it took so much effort that it seemed more like it was a gym workout. Switched back over to a chef's knife to finish the joband tossed the mandolin in the trash.

I had this thing for all of 30 seconds and the first time I tried it... I sliced the end of my finger almost clearly OFF. They had to glue it back together because they couldn't use stitches for this kind of cut. The blade is CRAZY sharp (which I'm sure could be great) but absolutely make sure to use the guard! I'm scared to death to try the thing again! I would recommend this product ONLY to those that know what in the world they are doing!
1 reply from Bradshaw Home team - 3 years ago
First and foremost, I hope that your cut is healing well. All mandoline slicers can be tricky. The blades need to be ultra thin and sharp in order for it to function properly and cut effectively for the desired results. It's imperative to use the guide and make sure that your fingers are clear of the blades at all times. If you feel that yours is somehow not working properly, please let us know. We can be contacted at hello@goodcook.com and we would be happy to assist you.

I see How This Device Would Be Good. But The Part Of It You Hold The Potato With Did Not Work Well, Fought With It And Ultimately Sliced The Whole Top Of Hubs Finger Off. Like I Said, The Idea Is There, But Its Cheaply Done. We Shouldnt Have To Fight With The Handpiece When Trying To Slice Something.
