Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. Dino Discovery Dig Triceratops

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 4 year old was super excited to start digging for the hidden treasure and Dino bones. The Dino sand was pretty sticky and the tool that was provided was flimsy and useless to dig through the very thick sand. It isn't like traditional sticky play sand, there are little seeds and and rough grains and it's all held together with a sticky glue type substance. Once he found the bones and gem (which took about 7-10 minutes), he was over it. Not sure how interesting it would be to do again and again. I'll try and think of a way to reuse the sand.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The product definitely has some pros, it's fun, interactive and a great way to keep your kids busy. The cons include terrible sand. It's stucky, gooey and STICKS TO EVERYTHING!! That includes clothes, tables, fingers, carpet, shoes. Not kidding this was gross and such a nuisance. I would change the "sand" because that is going to cause so many issues with parents of younger children.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I gave the Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. Dino Digs Triceratops to my three year old daughter, Toni, and she absolutely loved it! She was totally enthralled for at least 45 minutes, and that's her way of showing me she really likes something. I really thought that the volcano design of the whole piece is really cool, especially because Toni loves "'canos". The fossil prints on the back of it, on the door, are a fantastic idea, because you won't lose them that way and it saves space! I also want to add that I thought the "Dino dirt" is really interesting. It's like stringy rocks! Almost like kinetic sand, but different because it looks like gravel. My only complaints of the item is that I wish that the dinosaur bones came already hidden in the dirt to scoop out and find right away, because I had her digging just to find the bag at the bottom! Haha. It's okay though, because we just put him together after that. She LOVED the gem included and we spent a lot of time burying and digging it back up. Another complaint though, is the size and weight. It's awkward for little kids to hold, so I actually set it in a plastic tub and held it the whole time for her so the dirt didn't get everywhere and so she didn't have to try and hold it up to dig. And one more thing, the dino dirt is kind of stringy when you pull it apart. Not a huge deal, though. I would recommend this to others because it's educational and a lot of fun. Keeps them occupied for awhile! I imagine older kids could take it with them on the go. I would buy more of these because I enjoyed it, too!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While my boys stayed engaged for quite a it with this product ( which is always plus :-)) There were defiantly things about it that i found a bit strange. I thought they would get to dig to find the dinosaur bones and Gem. but it was all just in a bag. I think the product could be a tad larger to be able to store the dino bones and "Sand" for future fun. but my boys didn't notice and they had fun. I received this item in exchange for my honest review.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The GeoSafari Jr. Dino Dig was a huge hit with my kids! The dirt is an interesting texture; not quite slime, definitely not sand. The only complaint is that the included Dino skeleton is a bit flimsy, but my daughter enjoyed building it. Overall, a great set that sets played with repeatedly!

It made excavation a little more challenging then anticipated but overall my son had a blast digging for bones and putting together a dinosaur.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely love this more than slime or play-doh. It isn't messy but still has a slime consistency. Comes with the bones and gem in a separate bag so you don't have to worry about them missing pieces or a big mess. My 4 yr old loved it and we plan on getting more. If I was being picky, some of the small "shells" in the dirt falls out (very little falls out after rough playing).

The Dino bones and gem were all together in a bag inside so that made it a little less fun the first time my 4 year old played with it but he liked doing it over and over after we put the skeleton together. The mold for him to use to make the fossils was a big hit. The skeleton felt a little flimsy when putting it together so I had to help him put the pieces together but it was able to come apart and be rebuilt. I like that the sand is sticky enough to not make a huge mess but not sticky enough to stick to their skin. This kept my son busy for a long time and he struggles to stay on one task for more than a few minutes so I am very happy with that. My son took some time to be okay with the texture but once he got used to it he had a blast.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The kids really loved this for two days! My hesitation with giving it 5 stars is all the pieces and the sand drying out. I'm just not sure this toy will make it past a few play times. That being said, it's a great option for a parent to have in the closet to pull out for a work call!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The sand is very durable and stays in the molded shapes and it feels awesome to the touch! The fossils and gem are a cool little finding, my toddlers were very intrigued and the little booklet included is cool and educational. They played with the kit for hours and loved every second of it.

My daughters were very excited to get these, they are 4 and 7 and love dinosaurs. Once out of the packet it was ready to play with, they dug their gem out along with the dinosaur fossils. They then put them together to make the dinosaur in their pack, it comes with a great information card as well. They then spent ages playing with the sets. The sand it comes with is like small gravel with a stretchy gluey consistency but doesn't stick to hands or the table. Its unusual but really tactile and fun to play with. It keeps its shape when moulded too. They loved using the tools, moulds and volcano case as part of their play. Best thing is everything fits into the volcano case that has a back to close it with so its easy to store and doesn't dry out. They've played with this so much since we got it.

My 4 year old is absolutely dinosaur mad, and after seeing this kit, he was nagging me for ages to get it for him!.. What could be more fun..! It is the perfect combination of mouldable tactile sand.. dinosaur bones ( that you can use to build the dinosaur ) and a surprise hidden gem stone.. all wrapped up in a fantastic volcano case! It even has a lovely little fact card with it! Both of my children ( ages 6 and 4 ) have had so much fun playing with this set!.. The sand is such a great texture.. and never dies out !.. Although it looks and feels like sand, it acts a bit like play dough.. so is fully mouldable so you can create lots of different scenarios for your dinosaur and on the plus side.. it's not sticky at all! When your finished, you can just squeeze it all back together and put it back in it's case! The case it comes in is a sturdy volcano, that keeps the sand and dinosaur all contained. It has 3 different moulds in the back that you can use to make impressions on the sand of fossils and dinosaur footprints. This is a fantastic set and perfect for any Dino loving child!

My young son is dinosaur crazy. I saw this and thought it would be an ideal toy to take on our half term break to keep him busy. It comes with an easy to store case, and the contents is not messy. Can be played with again and again. He enjoyed digging for his dinosaur and asked his older brother for help to put it together. He also loved his hidden gem. The contents initially come in one bag inside the pack. But once dug out can be put back in individual bits to make it a bit more exciting. Although aimed at 4-8 year olds. I would say more suitable for 3-6 year olds. My 3 year old loved finding all the parts, whilst my 6 year old was able to clip them altogether. So a great way to have children play with it and work together. We then extended the learning with my eldest by reading the factual information leaflet and researching more about the dinosaur online.
