Q: what is the magnification?
submitted by afitz - 3 years ago
A: The GeoSafari Jr. My First Telescope has a magnification up to 9x. This magnification will provide fantastic views of the moon, while keeping the field of vision wide, which is essential for young children's understanding of magnified views.

This telescope is not Functional. We ended up buying 2 because we thought we might have just gotten a bad one, but neither of them worked. Cute decoration, but definitely not worth the money when you thought you were getting an actual toy.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this for my two little ones! I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old who love using this! They will look at the birds that land on the telephone polls and we live next to some hills so they will try to see if the can catch some wild bunnies or squirrels. We also go out at night and look at the moon BUT this is not the same quality as a telescope of course, they can still see it but not all of the beautiful details that show with a nice adult aized telescope.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall it's a good introductory telescope. The magnification is low and it can actually be a little difficult to look through given the size of the tripod and that it's not adjustable. My daughter set it up on a table by her window and she enjoys looking at the trees and the sky through it. Would recommend for a toddler.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] About a week ago I opened the Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. My First Telescope for my 4 year old grand daughter who loves to explore the skies . She has since used the telescope daily with joy! It's perfect for her size . Bonus points for the two lens making it super easy to see through . It was easy to set up using the directions . It is made well and has with stood a few drops already . It is a great starter telescope .

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids enjoyed playing with this however it was kind of hard to see through it and the lens fogged over easily. Due to not being able to adjust it to see better view of the stars I feel like my kids lost interest in it. I would rather pay a bit more for one that has a focus feature. The price these go for though the quality was decent for.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don't expect it to be like a real telescope. This is great for a child that's interested in learning about the stars. Great as a toy but I wouldn't use this for actual star gazing.
Fragile and small

While the telescope part works, the whole thing is very small and fragile. You have to prop it on a small table for a toddler/preschool sized kid to look through while standing. I didn’t think I’d have to haul out a small table into the yard to look at the stars. Also one of the legs easily snapped in half with typical kid use..luckily could superglue it together but it’s a bit lopsided now.

Disappointed - 4 years ago
Got this for daughter for early Christmas shopping as well. Wasn’t expecting top notch quality for $30 but my goodness you can’t even see a single thing out of this. As another reviewer mentioned it is completely black even with the lense cap off, you literally cannot see anything. Doesn’t matter how much we try to tweak it. The eyepiece section came right out as well, not screwed in or secured in any way, just fell right out on my face while I was trying to test it outside. (Hurt pretty bad btw) This thing is total garbage. Very disappointing my daughter was so excited to use it and has been trying desperately to make it work.
Would definitely buy again

I had hoped this would be a great introductory telescope for my 4 year old. My hopes were destroyed once I opened the box. It is completely useless and an absolute piece of garbage. One of the hinges on tripod broke as soon as we set it on the table as it’s made out of cheap plastic. The telescope itself does not have any sight adjustments and the image is blurry and doubled. A total waste of money.

Doesn’t work. Bought this for my daughter for Christmas and she can’t even use it. Looking through the lens all you see is the purple plastic inside. If you move it around a lot then you can see very blurry images you can’t make out. She hasn’t been able to use it since she got it. Very disappointed

Awful cheap product. We bought this in August for my daughter for Christmas (early shopping) and it broke right out of the box. It broke in 3 places within a couple hours. Tried to hot glue the first break but then the other parts broke. Also can’t see out of it. It’s just black. Yes with the cap off. Save your money. Unfortunately the return deadline was two days before Christmas Eve so we have to toss and just wasted $35 on cheap plastic. Normally don’t do reviews much but this was just awful my daughter was super excited to use it tonight.

My almost 4 year old loves this telescope! Every time we go outside she insists on taking it with us. She is constantly showing it off to friends and neighbors! She looks for birds, at trees, airplanes, the moon, etc. I love that it comes with a protective cap as it teaches her to take care of her belongings at an early age. She loves that it is pink!!!

This is the perfect telescope for preschoolers. My 3.5 and 5 year old both like to look at the moon and I knew they would love to look at it closer with a telescope so I'm so glad I found this one that is perfect for little hands. They love using this telescope to also look at other things in the sky closer. I love that they are able to explore and learn with this neat science tool. Such a cute telescope for preschoolers!
