Karastan All Purpose Rug Pad Gray

I should’ve read the reviews before purchasing. This rug makes my whole downstairs stink—like circus elephants, and not in a good way. Do not purchase.

As many people noted, the smell is horrendous. I have extreme allergies and man. I did let 2 and 3 of 3 air out in my garage for about 2 months before install as my 1st one is still offgassing in my kiddos playroom 😒. My worst beef is I had installed these together prevent my rugs from bunching up and they Do.Not.Work. and matter of fact bunch up to the point that I trip nearly every time I am walking through the kiddos rooms. Like trip hazard when holding a baby. 0 stars. Would NOT recommend which is such a shame because I have cut them down and thus are not returnable. Boo.

Terrible chemical smell. Very thin, and unevenly cut. Do not recommend. Immediately returned.

Works great for a rug pad as long as you dont mind its foul odor. I aired out this rug for days and tried my hardest to get rid of the smell but it always stunk up whatever room it was in. Save yoursellf the headache and get a different one.

Within 24 hours of installing this rug pad, I started to experience an allergic reaction: sneezing, runny nose, and my throat closing. It smelled AWFUL when I opened the package, which should have been my warning sign. Some chemical in this rug pad caused me to get sick, and I only realized this when I felt immediately better at work but awful as soon as I got home. Too bad I already threw out the packaging so I can't return it. I'm still airing out my home from the awful stench of this pad. Please heed my review and others - this rug pad is toxic and Target should not be selling it.

Poor quality and awful smell

While the pad was easy to cut down to size and it grips well, this pad smells ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! I can understand a rubber/plastic/synthetic material having a short "off gassing" period, but the chemicals used in this product CAN NOT be healthy. Every time I enter my living room, I start to get a headache within 5 minutes! The smell is best described as a vacuum that has a burnt out rubber belt that ran over V.O.M.I.T! I've had this pad in my living room for a few days now, and it still smells, even after opening the windows multiple times. Right after opening, the smell was not super obvious, but as it sat in the house, it got worse and worse!!! Unfortunately, I threw away the packaging as I was happy with the grip and ease of use the first day.... folding this up and throwing it outside until I can bring it back to Target!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!

Terrible Rug pad, it stinks so bad. It made my house stink, I had to throw it all away.

The rug pad itself works great but unfortunately had to get rid of it due to a terrible smell. It almost smells of chemicals. I thought the smell would eventually fade but it did not. Also the rug pad was not true to size and I had to cut it to make it work.

The smell is obscene and overpowering. No amount of airing outside will work. I had to throw it away as I discarded the packaging.

The smell OH MY GOD. Smells so toxic made the whole house smell within 5 minutes of being taken in. Came with the wrapping half off so probably went through whole transportation half open and still has the strongest toxic smell I can even smell it in other rooms returning first thing tomorrow can’t have this in my home any longer especially with a toddler.

Do not buy this. I should’ve listened to the other reviewers about the strong chemical smell. I let the rug pad air out on my porch for weeks and it still smells strong enough that I can smell it sitting a few feet away.

On sale it was a good price. Effective, as it prevents my 5x7 rug from slipping on my wooden floors. Smell is weird at first, but dissipates quickly. Easily trimmable with scissors.

I know some other reviews reported a really bad smell. the one I just bought today has no bad smell whatsoever. it's working great.

This is a top-notch rug pad. It boasts wonderful strength and softness that can give even thin rugs extra plushness. It is also highly practical rubber backing providing grip in addition to the fact that the wrong pattern is even trimmable allowing for adjustment.

First, the 8x12 is only 8x10. If purchasing in store that’s not an issue because it’s clearly stated on the package so it seems to be an online discrepancy. The rug pad is very thin and the smell is absolutely horrendous. If you have the space and good weather to set it outside in the sun that might help. Unfortunately, we didn’t have either and the smell will not dissipate even with the use of baking soda and other carpet odor eliminating products. The grip pad on the bottom is very nice though. It doesn’t budge at all and was actually quite hard to move into place when we needed to adjust the carpet. So they got at least one thing right with this pad.

Does it work? Yes. Is it toxic? Extra yes. The fumes haven’t gone away months later. The piece I cut off I left outside, that piece seems better now, so I finally got my desk off it and put it outside. So far (overnight) still bad, so definitely leave it out for a few days before placing it under a rug.

It is a good rug pad and easy to use and cut to fit. It works well. But it’s been a month and I can still smell the chemical odor. I’m going to have to replace it. I have a sensitive nose though and others may not notice.

It says 8’x12’ which is a LIE! Can they not do math?!?! It’s 120” long which is ONLY 10’ and so a total waste of several hours ordering and getting home to only find out it’s 2’ short!!! And then back to the store for return! Please get your measurements right!
