LEGO Icons Blacktron Renegade Building Kit 10355

Seeing this brought back so many memories. It's a beautiful build, updated it to a more modern style. Also, the notes and lore in the book are absolutely delightful

I was blown away when I got the email that Lego was re-releasing the Blacktron Renegade because my older brother had the original set when we were kids. I remember so distinctly how cool it was from my childhood, so this set was a very sentimental purchase. The improvements over the original are incredible. The build is very enjoyable due to its more advanced nature. A super cool set that I am so glad to have in my collection!!

This set really honors the original Lego theme. And with a modern style and build durability, it's a perfect piece of nostalgia for play or display.

This was a fun build, not too difficult. Separating the modules is tough. The landing gear concept is great but is terrible to try to pull down. The rover that drops out is an awesome feature. The ship has great swoosh factor.

I was a young kid who had the original sets and enjoyed the crap out of them, when I found out LEGO was re-released the set for the newer generations ..... I had to jump on the bandwagon one more time!!!

This was the holy grail of Lego sets back in the 80's, and so naturally, I was never able to snag it. Fast forward to the release of this, and I knew 44-year-old me wasn't going to let the heartbreak of the 80's repeat itself, so ordering this was as easy as breathing. Overall, this was a fun build. There are some clever design tricks incorporated to increase structural integrity, and the modular nature of the set presents varied play possibilities. The striking yellow and black color scheme invites the eyes to examine every detail, and it's all accented with just enough red to break it up and provide that "pop" of extra color. I loved that the original mini figure heads (2 eyes and a smile) are included with this set. The sets' manual makes it clear these are the "bad guys," yet they are all smiles. I can only speculate as to why (good 401K and dental included, perhaps?) This set does have a "head-scratcher" element included in it, though: the vehicle release mechanism. The design inherently puts unnecessary rotational strain on a few pieces, and it doesn't release the vehicle particularly easy, either. I feel that someone on the design team could have come up with a slightly more intuitive release mechanism that worked much more smoothly by using some different pieces, without sacrificing the design intent. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but simply a design choice. Ultimately, this is an excellent homage to the original. It's big and sleek and colorful, and ultimately that's where I believe it actually loses some of the appeal of the original set. While it was smaller, it was also jagged, asymmetrical and dangerous-looking, which was a large portion of the appeal to my then-8-year-old mind. There is a photo of the lead designer, posing with this set, sitting next to a model of the original (complete with original box!) a few pages into the manual. It's easy to see the differences side-by-side, and the update feels, for lack of better word, sterilized. Finally, was a little disappointed to see that the transparent canopies were both scratched up pretty good. I do remember that, back in the day, larger transparent pieces had their own compartments in their boxes, which kept them pretty safe. Would love to see that come back. Also, don't do what I did and just completely forget that this thing has a landing gear system built-in. Took 4 tries with releasing the car from the internal bay to figure that out.

I remember seeing this set in the last century, and it was excellent; I got the new release for my son (to show him something different from the Star Wars sets). This set is way more detailed, and the minifig prints are more thorough. Still, it brings me happy memories when I see it

I leave my Lego out for my Grandson - Classic Space through to Space Police. However the 18+ on this build also bleeds into small playability niggles. Everytime the grandson touches something random comes off - EXCEPT the 4 parts that are supposed too. A few things here and there is normal in play, but not this much. IE the old Classic Space bendy tubing always pops off in play, but little else. He just can't seperate them, and using "clip plates" over "Technic" peg & hole will break with time/misuse. It's also a shame that it isn't backwards compatible with the Original Blacktron kits - as he does cross match them. It would have taken a great product to a flawless one. Recommended for mostly display and not much play, sadly.

Great set to build, styling fits in with my old classic space lego. Kids have lots of fun with all the play features.

I've bought three copies of this set so far. I built two of them and I gave one to one of my friends who also comes from the eighties. This is a great set for enthusiasts from back in the day and people interested in the emerging Space theme. Much like the Galaxy Explorer released for the 90th anniversary this updates an older model using modern building techniques. One of the great features of this set, which I hope Lego continues, is that this ship is modular, meaning you can configure it in different ways or combine multiple models. The connectors/interface system is fairly simple and could be added to any ship that you can imagine and added to the Renegade. This ship also, has an alternate build that can be built using the Lego Building App. In the alternate build you can build a Blacktron walker that has been advertised all the way back since the 80's too! It is a great build. The app's instructions are a little hard to understand once you get past the initial few bags. I would highly recommend keeping the pieces in each bag so that they are more easily separated. Or go old school and dump them all out on a big table. Either way, you are going to have a fun build and the end result is beautiful! I highly recommend this set and I also applaud Lego for using the app for an alternate build.

An excellent Blacktron revival set, boosted by the downloadable instructions for the walkers. Great play value with the cockpit, comms module and jets able to be reassembled away from the body of the craft, and the vehicle drop action. Could be built from age 5 or 6 and today's children would benefit from this set more than many others because more of the pieces are in the theme colours and are versatile for rebuilding; we need more sets like this. Best with no stickers and just the right printed bricks. The downloadable instructions were OK with a large monitor but I might have struggled on a small pad, definitely on a phone. The only complaint I have is that the limit of 3 sets is not enough; please would you raise the limit soon or allow the usual retailers to sell this set, as you did with the Galaxy Explorer 10197, so I can buy and build more of them, as MOCs as well as the set models.

This is a great set. I have a lot of experience with different themes and sets over the years. This is a perfect mix of complicated enough to not be boring, but also very interactive and fun. The price is very fair for what you get. I would strongly recommend it to any LEGO fan.

Loved the nostalgia that building this kit gave me. Sincerely hope that more of the Lego space (blacktron, space police, m-tron) and underwater (aquanauts, aquasharks, aquaraiders, hyrdranauts, stingrays) are revitalized / reimagined similar to this model.
