Q: What does "no added pfas addictive" mean? Is there any amount of pfas?

submitted by Michelle - 15 days ago
  • A: It is worded that way because PFAS is widespread in the natural environment – including the air we breathe, the water we drink. As part of the 3rd party certification process with BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) their certification scheme states that organic fluorinated chemicals, such as per-and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), cannot be present in formulas for BPI Certified items. BPI's rules for fluorinated chemicals require safety data sheets for all ingredients showing that the product formula does not contain fluorinated chemicals. And test results from a BPI-Approved lab showing a maximum of 100ppm total organic fluorine. And, a statement of no intentionally added fluorinated chemicals, signed by the manufacturer. Because ALL Matter products have been tested, passed testing, and have been BPI certified, you can have peace of mind that any items purchased contain less than 100ppm of PFAS. For more details you can visit https://bpiworld.org/fluorinated-chemicals

This set melts whenever used on hot food. Multiple times I've used a fork or spoon after microwaving left overs, only to have the silverware melt.

Great Substitute for One-time Use Utensils

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that this set is made from plants and that they are compostable. I find myself in need of throw away eating utensils a lot in my life and I hate the waste. These are a great substitute for those one-time use utensils. I did find that these utensils best with cold or room temperature foods. These are not great for hot liquids or hot foods, because they start to break down and don’t hold their shape. I am happy to have this alternative that is planet friendly.

I love this product. I feel like they are a great price for something that I can feel good about using. The only slight disadvantage is that when used with hot foods they will bend quite a bit. For me not a big deal, but worth noting. I buy these regularly.

These don't hold up to heat at all

Spoons are fine for cold stuff, but just about any amount of heat on these this causes them to warp to the point they're no longer useable.

I liked that they are compostable and they looked sturdy, price was right. But upon stirring a cup of hot tea and eating some warmed pulled pork, they have shown their worth. As they have melted while doing booth actives for my July 4th cooking today! Can’t put these out for others to experience.

Melts in hot foods

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the idea of compostable flatware. The box was attractive and listed key points like: gluten free, BPA free, use within 6 months. I kept the box at work to use with various lunches. They hold up well in hard fruits, the knives cut a sandwich with no problem. I did have issues using them with hot foods. I left the fork in a bowl of spaghetti and meatball while I took a call and it warped and melted. It was almost unusable but I was able to bend it back and It hardened once pulled away from the heat. The spoon got very soft when I was stirring my coffee as well. This silverware is fine for salads and yogurt. I would not recommend it for hot foods. It does not mention it at all on the packaging either.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really enjoyed the Matter Compostable Forks/Spoons/Knives. They were the perfect addition to our family barbeque and it was great to know that we were not harming the environment as well. It's reassuring also to know there are no harmful chemicals in there as well.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had never heard of Matter Compostable Cutlery before but I love that cutlery that breaks down so fast even exists! There’s so much trash laying around the world that does not break down and/or harms the wildlife or ocean life out there! I’m 100% more comfortable using these forks, spoons and knives on picnics or other outings! My family does it’s very best to always pick up trash (even when it’s not ours), so when people make earth friendly products like this cutlery set, I jump on it! Very durable when used and gives me peace of mind for our future!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is such a great idea!! There’s already so much plastic littering up our earth. I use these at work and keep in my locker. It’s mostly for easy things like salads and such. I used the fork on hot chicken and it curled up.

They’re a wonderful alternative!! I’m avoiding all plastic I can, so I love having these! They’re not useful for hot items though. I tried to stir coffee with a spoon and it got wilted. So watch out for that, but really worth while for the lack of plastic :)

Great cutlery

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that this cutlery is made form plants! It's also compostable, BPA free, extra sturdy and I actually feel good about purchasing it for my family. I love that's it's not traditional plastic, which I hate and it's ruining our planet and killing everything in our oceans. I will only but recycled products and compostable products from now on and I will definitely be buying these for every cookout, picnic and day at the beach from now on. I've showed my friends and family and it's the only brand they will purchasing too.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's really exciting to see companies really embrace the fact that we need to do more to ensure that we're not introducing more pollutants, such as plastic, into our environment. These utensils are really sturdy and I've been able to get a few uses out of them. It's so interesting to know that they will eventually decompose quickly unlike plastics that can last centuries. I'm trying to "be more green", if you are too, then I recommend these compostable plastic utensils.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the fact that these are compostable. They are very sturdy. Everything was a nice size, just like regular silverware. I didn't reuse mine as I used these while at work and didn't want to carry around used utensils in my purse.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I send plastic utensils often with my children for school lunches. It's nice to know there is one that is biodegradable and not so bad for the earth. They work just like regular plastic ones and are the same size. Looking forward to finding them on the store shelves.
