I'm not as serious about home theater audio as I am about 2 channel music, so I wanted a HT system that was reasonably priced but sounded excellent. I don't use my AV pre for HDMI video switching, so 2.1 etc is not a consideration for me. I was coming from an Emotiva XMC-1 which started acting up, and the HTP-1 was a significant upgrade in sound quality as well as features. I have my HTP-1 plugged into an Audioquest Niagara 7000 power conditioner, which even made the Emotiva sound sweet. My point being that power conditioning on these cheaper electronics really pays off. I'm using GAN monoblock amps from classDaudio for my L-C-R channels, which was also quite a step up from my very old emotiva amp (which I still use for surrounds). My LCR speakers are the now discontinued Elac Adante, designed by Andrew Jones, which although low cost can achieve very good levels of realism, though not quite at the level my stereo speaker from TAD are, also designed by Andrew. Obviously do your research, as new HT processors are coming out all the time and may offer additional features. But suffice to say, with good ancillary gear, you can get quite good sonic performance out of the HTP-1. I actually use 2 unused XLR channels of the unit to power headphones for night listening, (HD800's) setting the HTP1 to stereo for downmix. I really like the web based interface as well. It's a mature product that supposedly is not going to see an HTP-2, but perhaps just revisions with a possible upgrade path. I don't use the HTP1 for switching video HDMI sources, (I use a Lumagen 5000 series for that) so I have no need for HDMI 2.1 features, which might be important to you.
Extremely happy!

Incredible AVR! works flawlessly and benefits from lots of community support. I could not be happier with it in my 9.4.3 setup. Pros: price. Custom GUI. Customization options. Stability. Sound quality. Cons: lack of Dirac ART support (in the works)
A great addition to my sustem!

Great sound and usability. This device is probably the best bang for the buck sold today.

I bought this processor after trying different AVRs and processors, that includes, Anthem AVM 70, Emotiva RMC-1, NAD T778 and my old Denon AVR X4500. This is undoubtedly the best processor I ever had. Hearing details in movies, that I had never heard before. I feel Atmos speakers are more active on HTP-1 compared to other processors/receivers. Dirac DLBC is a big plus and once DIRAC ART is officially available in Q4, HTP-1 would be unbeatable. One needs to look at the expensive options only if more than 16 channels are required. Pros: + Sound Quality and features + DIRAC DLBC and ART (expected in Q4 2023) + Price + Custom Web GUI, B-EQ Cons: - (If I'm nitpicking, VOG and Center Height for Auro 3D would have been nice, but not really important)

I have my htp-1, dont know about any of you guys but this processor is by far a superb processor for me works flawless. Had a marantz av7705 loved it but moved up wanting dirac. Emotiva rmc-1l worst mistake of my life. We can call that piece of garbage the popcorn maker. O.s.d. always looking like the matrix, evertime hdmi source change made a popping noice irritated the hell outta my wife, and ffwd a movie rwd a movie same thing. Hit the jacpot with my htp-1. Not to mention owner only owned it 4 months, and payed only $2,200 for the unit. Glad i was patient bc i hit the japot on this unit. Looove it

Went into boot loop the day I hooked it up and was setting speaker levels to calibrate Dirac. Has not recovered after may resets and disconnecting everything. SW that can be corrupted and then can?t boot the hardware is not quality SW. Monoprice is very ignorant for not including a MicroSD Card with a recovery image on it, would have saved a lot of time, effort and frustration by doing so. I do not have a MicroSD with enough capacity and there are no images for Mac that I can find. I am not in favor of buying a new MicroSD card and borrowing a PC to get a day old processor back up and running. I already wasted several hours troubleshooting and reading through forum posts, because Monoprice has zero info on this. Hopefully they replace or refund because paying $4K for this hassle is not a good experience.

I use this in a dedicated 13.1 home theater with Genelec speakers, 4 Genelec subs and 4 Theory Atmos in the ceiling. Projector is a JVC RS-3000/NX9 to a 10' screen. My theater designer recommended as he had been hearing good things from AV installers for months. This processor pulls it all together brilliantly, with flexibility and great ease. I'd love a 2-way control interface (via RS232 or LAN), but the web server works great. I've had this 8 months; there was a hiccup earlier this year with stability that they addressed quickly. Customer service has been responsive and forthright. It feels like a well-conceived & well-built flagship product vs a cheap/minimal execution of a spec sheet. I'd recommend without hesitation.
Excellent functionality and audio quality, poor reliability

First, let's get this out of the way: The sound is great. The functionality is great. The integration with Roon is great. If these things kept working over the life of the unit, it would be 5+ stars without question. Unfortunately, there are significant reliability problems. My first (B-Stock) unit lasted 4 weeks before it bricked itself and got stuck in an unrecoverable reboot loop. My second (A-Stock) unit lasted 3 weeks before the reboot loop, but I was able to recover it by re-flashing the firmware. Crossing fingers, it's been working since. But I don't trust this device to be with me more than a year or two, and I expect more at the price.

As many reviewers here have said I did extensive research on this unit before my purchase. It is by far the best 16 channel processor at this price or really any price period. The sound quality and features this unit has exceeds even many other 16 channel processors that cost thousands of dollars more. Add to that the fact that it has the best available AKM DACS in it. And the fact that it has some of the best customer support from a company I have ever seen in monoprice, they really do listen to their customers about features in improvements and fixing bugs. You cannot go wrong with purchasing this unit. It is worth every penny. I have very few issues with it if any at all it just works. And Dirac With bass control is the most amazing set up I have ever used it integrates your subwoofers Across all seats and accounts for timing and delay with all speaker channels beautifully. Not to mention that it is future proof and has boards that are upgradable inside for new features as they come along. If you were on the fence about buying this do not hesitate Like I said it is worth every penny.!
Disappointed.

As of this moment, I?m very disappointed with this processor. I have a $2,700 Martin Logan Decent subwoofer and it doesn?t seem to work with this system. I placed a support request with Monoprice and I don?t seem to be getting anywhere. The instructions also tell you to use Direc to help dial your system in. Well the HTP-1 doesn?t come with any microphone device to help you with this like my old Marantz amp did. Then you?re (through Direc) directed to download an app, which doesn?t work on a mobile device, and then directs you to use a PC. I have a Mac, and their is no download for this app. I feel like I spent a lot of coin between the HTP-1 and Monolith amp and I don?t have what I was hoping for. The only output option to the amp is XLR, which I?m fine with and can accommodate. My old Marantz receiver had RCA jack outputs for the subwoofer. I hook the old receiver and everything works fine again. The Martin Logan manual says if I?m using XLR then the bass volume is control through the source. However I cannot find where or how in the Monolith manual to do this, or through the app. Very frustrating, and I was hoping for so much more.

Went in with eyes wide open having read numerous user reviews and threads. But even so wasn?t expecting it to be so good. Literally everything works as it should, sounds fantastic, really clean, hdmi switching fast, web interface superb, Dirac calibration works every time without fail. It?s just really solid all round and I can?t fault it. Buy in confidence, there is nothing close to this level of performance at the price point.

I was not expecting a processor to have such a noticeable positive effect on the performance of my system. I couldn't be more pleased with the results of Dirac Live and the addition of wide front speakers in my 15'x 14' listening/viewing area.
Very good.

The processor runs smoothly and is very reliable. The advantage of the processor is, should you software crash, then you can revive it with an SD card.

I have had my Monolith HTP-1 for about a month now to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.1.4. It is an incredible value. The processor is very well conceived and the bespoke setup options at this point seem to be endless. Easy to learn, lifetime to master. Ok, probably not a lifetime. It was up and running in a couple of hours, but I think it will take a couple of months to get it EXACTLY how I want it. The expandability to 16 channels is outstanding. The sound is superb in both 2 channel and 7.1.4, very transparent. I thought the setup using a tablet would be a problem, but I now prefer that to on screen. My wish list for future versions would include 12v triggers programmable to each source and momentary on screen volume feedback. I would not hesitate to recommend the Monolith HTP-1 to anyone.

Excellent pre-pro with seamless Dirac integration. Updates are easy to achieve over the internet. The sound is transparent and the various sound modes work very well. One thing of note: you need a microphone that you provide for the measurments. I have found Minidsp’s Umik-1 to work perfectly.

The HTP1 is a noteworthy product in several ways, but for me it was a product that offered Dirac room correction with sophisticated bass control. Other considerations were channels for more speakers/multiple subs and functional eARC. It was encouraging to see generally positive feedback on Internet forums. And quite interesting to see Monoprice participation in some, to point of adding features (e.g. flexible signal generation to use with measurement SW). The HTP1 is a quality all digital audio product that can switch/pass 60hz 4K video sources. With 16 channels it can handle a variety of speaker arrangements and/or handle multiple subwoofers with state of the art Direct Live Bass Control. I'm very happy to say I bought one.
Great upgrade from my Marantz AV8802A

I have had multiple surround processors in my system over the years. Those include two Lexicons starting with the MC-1, the Anthem D2, the Marantz AV8802A and now the Monoprice HTP-1. I think the Dirac is much better than the ARC or Audyssey room correction systems. The sound is noticeably more clean than with the Marantz w/Audyssey. The overhead speakers have come alive with the HTP-1 w/Dirac. Movies sound great, but 2-channel music is better than ever. Stereo music is focused with a better defined image than ever before. The only negative is the remote; the buttons are too small and close together. I know that it is easier to use the web interface, but I like to grab the remote.
