A: Same. I was getting on here to see if I could buy a new lid. I can’t even find the item in my target receipts and I ALWAYS scan my app but I know I haven’t had it longer than a year and a half.

submitted byalester - 5 months agoA: Same situation, bought it 1.5 years ago, called target and they said the exchange policy is 365 days and there is nothing they can do about it. 80 dollars for a trash can that doesn’t last 2 years. Also, there is Brighroom customer support number to order a new lid.

Q: I see that there is a spot inside the lid to put a filter to fight odor. I can't seem to find a place that specifies the size of the filter I need to purchase to put in there.

A: There's most certainly an area to add a filter - it's on the side of the lid. I'm not sure why they're denying that it does.

Really nice trash can, but very dissapointing when it stopped working after a year. It also requires 4 good AA batteries and drains them pretty fast.

Purchased this trash can in August and it’s worked fine for the last 6 months. Solid build quality, good size, and the automatic lid has worked without any major issues but it could be a little finicky at times with staying open or closing too early. Unfortunately today I changed the batteries for the first time since our purchase with standard energizer batteries as a replacement. After completing the change, I placed the lid back onto the trash can and turned it on. I waved my hand over the sensor to test it and make sure it worked properly when suddenly the lid flew back with enough force to break itself in half. I’m not sure how or why the motor had that much power but the lid is literally cracked where it attaches to actual frame of the lid that houses the electrical components. The amount of force that it opened the lid with was strong enough that I didn’t think the tiny motor would have even been capable of doing that. The trash can was nice for the 6 months it lasted but after this, and with it having the potential to be dangerous? I plan on buying a traditional step can as a replacement. 3 stars for the 6 months that it worked and decent build quality, 2 stars taken off for the lid breaking itself.

this was a great motion sense trash can … until it stopped working. i am not certain i would put all the blame on the product; there was a short time in a very dusty construction environment where we continued using it, and that likely was the biggest part of the problem. but we tried cleaning and resetting it, to no avail. with few other options, we bought another. so we obviously liked it enough to buy it again. just be aware it has its limits for heavy use.

Works great for about a year and a half, like other reviews mention and then the motor fails. Really disappointing for such an expensive trash can. Contacting customer support doesn't help either, as there are no replacement lids available for order. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this, even though we've loved it while it worked.

not sure why there are so many negative reviews but i have had this trash can for over 3 years and have never had an issue with it! have only had to change the batteries in it once after about 2 years of daily use. keeps the odors contained, and overall works great!

DO NOT BUY - it’s a great looking trash can, but as you can see from all of the other reviews, it’s not reliable. We bought two of these and the lid stopped working on both of these after about 2 years. I called Guest Relations and since the purchase was beyond 365 days, they wouldn’t offer any remedies, not even for us to buy new lids. Disappointing, we didn’t expect to spend $80/trashcan for them to break so soon.

Looks great—until the lid stops working 9-10 months after purchase. I was meticulous in keeping the lid clean, as debris from the trash can sometimes get on the bottom of the lid covering the trash opening. However, it wasn’t me or my trash that caused the issue—it seems to be a poorly made product or uses defective parts. I’m very disappointed. I considered buying a replacement lid and may still try, but it would have to be extremely inexpensive, as I wouldn’t want to pay much for something I know will only last less than a year.

This trashcan only worked good for about a year and now the lid won’t open or shut at all. There’s something wrong with the motor. It can’t be fixed with new batteries. Very disappointed because his trashcan was $80.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I have no clue how it’s 3.5. It worked great at first. Little learning curve but no big deal. First it gets dirty and is hard to clean. After I cleaned it the sensors went funky. It wouldn’t close all the way anymore. I changed the batteries and it didn’t fix it. A week later the sensor doesn’t work at all. Won’t open/close with motion or tapping the buttons. On/off switch does nothing. Changed the batteries again and still nothing. I wouldn’t recommend this at all. I’ve had it less than 6 months. For the price I’m upset that we have a useless product. The whole point of this trashcan was so I wouldn’t have to touch it and now I have to grab the life and lift it up every time.

My original order arrived dented. The replkacement also arrived dented. The product is of good quality and is best kitchen garbage can I have found. However, Target has done a poor job (at best) ensuring that the vendor provides packaging that protects the product. Buyer beware.
