A: Highly unlikely: the motion detector is at the edge of the lid of this trash can and engineered so a wave of the hand would open the trash can. The lid of this item “Nine Stars 13gal Motion Sensor Oval Shape Stainless Steel Trash Can” is not conducive for a rodent to get on the top of the lid and the motion sensor is at the very front … in the unlikely event a rodent did get on the top of the lid, if near to the motion sensor it would most likely fall off the lid

Received the item and would not work. Batteries are good, red light indicator is on, but lid does not ope or close automatically. Sent email to hopefully resolve these issues issue and waiting a reply.

I thought this was a great hands-free trash can for the kitchen. I worked great for a while. With the location of the battery compartment, the door gets dirty if the trash can gets full. The motor died about a year after having it. Our other Nine-Stars motion trash can for the bathroom didn’t last much longer. Don’t buy it.

Bought it over a year ago, and it worked great for awhile. The motor gave out and I haven’t even made it to year two yet. Waste of money if they can’t give you a warranty on the motor

Don’t by this trash can is literally garbage it stop working within a couple months and trying to return now to get my money back. This trash can is expensive for it not be made of great quality.

Love this trashcan. Target description is misleading about the ‘comes with liner’ as it does not. It has a oval ring ‘liner’ to place bag over. This is not a real interior can liner. Opens and closes great. I’ll keep it.
