Q: Does it have DHA and ARA?

A: Baby’s Only® Organic Infant Formulas does not contain added DHA and ARA in the formula. However, it does contain appropriate amounts of linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid) and linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid). Linoleic and linolenic acid are called dietary essential fatty acids, meaning that it is essential for humans to consume these fats from foods. These dietary essential fatty acids are also known as “precursor fats” since the body can convert them into the longer chain desaturated fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA from linolenic) and arachidonic acid (ARA from linoleic). This means that full-term, healthy babies, children, and adults can convert DHA and ARA in the body from linoleic and linolenic fatty acids. The organic oils used in Baby’s Only® Organic Infant Formulas assure the appropriate amounts of linoleic acid and linolenic acid. There are 1000 mg of linoleic acid and 128 mg of linolenic acid in 100 Calories of Baby’s Only® Organic Infant Formulas. At the present time, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not specify the necessity of providing the two non-essential fatty acids, DHA and ARA, to formula or to infants. Specifically, they reference DHA and ARA (also called long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids or LC-PUFAs) in the following statements: “The American Academy of Pediatrics has no official position on supplementation of term or preterm infant formulas with LC-PUFAs.” (1) “Finally, considering the marked variability among infants of apparent conversion of ALA to DHA and LA to ARA, it is conceivable that some infants will benefit from supplementation, whereas others will not. Such a scenario certainly would explain the marked variability in outcomes documented by virtually every study. It is also likely that any beneficial effects of LC-PUFA supplementation will be subtle and possibly not detectable with all methodologies.”(1) Because DHA and ARA play a role in brain and eye development and also because there is no evidence that supplementation with these non-essential fatty acids in the amounts found in formulas is harmful to infants and young children, some infant and toddler formulas, including some Baby's Only® formulas, are now fortified with DHA and ARA. However, because the American Academy of Pediatrics does not specify the necessity of providing DHA and ARA to infants, Baby's Only chose not to add them to Baby’s Only® Organic Infant Formulas. Ask your child’s healthcare provider about supplemental sources of DHA and ARA if supplementation with those two non-essential fatty acids is important to you. It’s a great alternative to Kendamil. My baby could only tolerate Kendamil and then Kendamil was sold out everywhere so this was suggested to use. We tried similac sensitive and enfamil gentlease but they both made her spit up. This one so far she has no issues on.

This is the second can of Baby's Only formula we've tried, and it is now apparent that the entire brand line has an off-putting plasticky taste. My baby vehemently resists his bottle when he can smell this formula, and when he does manage to drink some, he vomits it back up. He does not have this issue with literally any other brand of formula.

I never knew how hard it would be to decide what formula to give a baby till I had my own. This formula was great and gave my baby no issues. No colic or pain. My baby started this formula after him losing weight while breastfeeding him and he was on it for 3 weeks and his poops were hard hard like pebbles and he was spitting up A LOT we finished his last can and made the switch to kendamil and he’s thriving on it

We switched my daughter to this formula after Kendamil changed their Goat Infant Formula from the pink label to a purple label during this shortage. For some reason it started giving my 2 month old daughter tummy pains and excessive gas. She was screaming constantly. In the weeks leading up to it we were finding too many pieces of burnt/singed formula. The company kept denying any changes were made. So I switched her to this cold turkey because it’s the only A2 milk formula that I could find in stores near me. My daughter can only have A2 milk since she has a cows milk allergy. Initially my plan was to use it until I could find another goat formula. The goat formula came in but it’s sitting in the cabinet still because my daughter ended up loving this so we are still using it a month later. I taste tested it and compared it to the goat formula and it’s not as gamey plus it’s not too thin to where my daughter has some of it come out when she burps. I’m guessing that’s what my daughter loves about it it’s a little more filling. She is growing fast and hitting milestones very early and her Pediatrician has not recommended any different formulas since she’s doing great. We do add DHA drops and probiotics to this as an extra boost. I recommend trying it if your baby now while they have a great sale.

Hi Arod, I am sorry to hear about your experience with the Baby's Only Infant formula powder. What you are describing is not an uncommon characteristic of our formulas. When producing an organic product such as Baby's Only® Organic Formula, we do not want to use artificial stabilizers or chemical emulsifiers. When used in non-organic products these additives help the powder mix characteristics stay consistent as well as mix more easily with water. We believe that a few extra seconds of mixing or some occasional variances in the powder are better than consuming these unnecessary and often times hidden additives. Organic ingredients are subject to changes depending on many factors: growing seasons, region of the country where ingredients are sourced and weather conditions while growing. The variation in between different blends of Baby’s Only® is typically due to the use of organic ingredients. All formulas must meet our strict testing requirements, which include both nutrient composition, and powder physical quality. Physical quality tests (e.g. powder color, texture, smell etc) have ranges of acceptability, which in turn means there may be slight lot to lot variations in the powder. We perform these quality assurance tests to ensure that each batch of our products are nutritionally complete and safe. Since the buyout I no longer see it advertised that they test for heavy metals, they also added soybean oil to the ingredients. The price increased as well?? Let me start off by saying i was excited to try this new formula as i heard good reviews and the ingredits were very clean. My baby was on thisbfor 3 days amd she started showing bad symptoms. First she was super gassy anf her farts smelled so bad. Then the formula does not mix well it stays clumpy. I used a frother and the dr broners formula mixer pither and there was still clumps. Her poop became very loose and dark green and sticky and her spit up was thick and clumpy. I also had to end uo taking her to the er because she became very irritable. She cried for almost 2 hours straight to the point where her eyes shut and became lethargic. Thankfully shed better now but i can not reccomened this product. I will not be purchasing again.

We usually buy this formula when my baby’s other go-to gentle formula is sold out. The first few days he did ok and poop has been normal however today within a few hours of his morning bottle he projectile vomited twice. He hasn’t eaten anything else new & doesn’t seem sick… So, not sure if it’s just this batch he’s sensitive to or what but thought I’d leave my review in cause other babies have a similar reaction.

My son has been in this formula since he was 2 months old. It was the first one where he wasn’t gassy or constipated. Now with the new branding and new label he doesn’t seem to like it anymore. He refuses to finish a bottle, pushes it away and gags. He also spits up/throws up often now which never happened with the old label. Did the formulation change??? Also with the insane $12 price increase… at that point why wouldn’t we try other brands. We are switching immediately and will be returning cans we purchased. Super disappointing!!!

price increase so we found another that works. baby was on this for 6 months before you gto rid of the ecomony size and increased the smaller size by 10 dollars. and no i dont care about your subscriptions
