No mulch or foreign material

I just used a bag I had left over from a previous grass project that I didn't do.i used it as a top dressing for a Bahia new sod. Sod has been installed for 2 weeks and remembered I had that bad . There was no mulch or foreign matter in it. Just straight up topsoil and ingredients. Rain coming next few days and I'll see if it perks up a bit. The original sod was not that great a batch.
Not the same. More sticks and wood products

I have purchased this lawn soil several time over the last few years, and I just can not believe how much of it now is Sticks, Mulch type material, just unacceptable to use on my lawn without having to sort/sift all of the bag. It is just horrible now. I have found a few more expensive brands online that are perfect, but I no longer can go to my local store and purchase any of Scotts soils. Please for your customers, take all of these sticks, and mulch out of lawn soil.

I just bought a few bags of this product to put under some new rolls of sod. The product was high-quality and did not contain any of the bulky items other reviewers are mentioning or showing pictures of. For me, this was a quality product for my project.

TRASH in the bags - plastic and metal

I thought Scotts was a good company. Not any more! I bought 8 bags of this Turf Builer Lawnsoil. There was TRASH in the bags. Not 1 bag - all 8 bags. I had it spread on the my front lawn months ago. I am still picking up small pieces of black, blue or clear plastic! There was a piece of sharp metal. Most of the "soil" contained wood chips. I did all the right prep for the lawn, put down the seeds, and watered. Everywhere I put this - dead grass!!!

I am disgusted and sad! I thought Scott's was a good brand but NOT this product for sure!!! 2 years ago I had a new front yard put in. I had a spot where I had a bush moved and the ground was lower than the rest of the yard. I only needed a little soil so I bought this product. I used quality grass seed to fill the spot. However, that spot is now mostly clover! I'm going to have to dig up that section and get GOOD soil and replant. Yes I tried weed killer but did not work on the clover. I know it is the soil because I used a small amount in another spot w/o over seeding and it is also clover!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Enriched Lawn Soil and appreciate your feedback. Scotts Enriched Lawn Soil mix is guaranteed to be weed-free. However, there are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot (0.02 cubic meter) of native soil. When prepping an area for seeding, including the addition of a soil amendment, at least a portion of these weed seeds are brought near the surface where they can readily germinate. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Not suitable for top dress or seeding. Mostly sticks and thick mulch. Lacks fines and sand. Better suited for beds.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with our Turf Builder Enriched Lawn Soil and appreciate your feedback. While small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media, including potting soil, garden soil, lawn soil, topsoil, etc., you should not find large pieces of wood or bark. Most of our soils, especially potting mixes and garden soils, are made of composted forest products and contain very little if any actual soil. Composted forest products provide high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction which often occurs with potting mixes composed primarily of actual topsoil. The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance for years We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Bought 9 bags today. Bags are heavy! Dumped mine into a wheelbarrow and broke up small clumps in wheelbarrow and dumped on ground. Spread easy hope it helps my grass seed grow. Wish it was easier to identify weight on bag!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product to use especially if you have areas in your lawn that your dog has made yellow/dead grass areas. Take a couple shovels full of old dirt and replace with Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil for a great base for your grass seed.

We have bought this product to cover up some dry spots in our lawn. I followed the instructions. This has a lot of wood chips and sticks in it. Thought it was going to be more of a soil. Used it and little to NO results with grass just spots of wood chips in-between my areas of grass!. It looks horrible. Will have to remove all the product and start over. This is pretty much just a bag of wood chips/mulch not what was expected.

I bought 18 bags and proceeded to spread throughout my bare spots before reseeding. I notice there was quite a bit of mulch mixed into the bags. I did not think twice due to the Scott’s reputation. Now that the soil is settling, all that is visible is the mulch. After looking through the reviews, I felt compelled to post my experience. As I said, I am only one week into spreading, but I am concerned with the product.

I have boughten Scotts Turff Builder LawnSoil in the last week and it was more of a mulch than dirt, and some of the wood chips I could see what looks like a finish on wood furniture. I had boughten Scotts Turff Builder LawnSoil in past years that was actually dirt but something is clearly different this time. Are they cutting corners?

"Scott's Wood Chips Plus"

Fred W - 1 year ago

Last fall we bought 25 bags of Scott's Wood Chips Plus (aka LawnSoil) to patch our lawn. Although it was immediately obvious that each bag contained a large portion of wood chips, the chips were at least dark in color and we thought (having not done this before) they would break down quickly and not interfere with the growth of our grass. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. As you can see from the photos, the wood chips were so large and pervasive that much of our grass seed was unable to take root. In addition, the once dark wood chips have now been bleached by the sun leaving us with an ugly mess. As far as we're concerned, Scotts has engaged in deceptive advertising. Selling a product called LawnSoil, knowing it contains such a large volume of wood chips, is not what we would have expected from a reputable company!

My experience with this product has been amazing! I used it for toppdressing overseeing and lawn leveling multiple times, and for starter seeding . Fast germination The grass greens up quickly , the product offers value has it does not disappoint as do other less price point bagged soils i have applied. In conjunction with a seasonal lawn care program including soil testing Great results, consistently. I am planning a top dressing application in spring to the south side lawn Approx 4000 sq feet, and will not consider local bulk or other bagged soils . Scott’s lawn soil gives me confidence for a successful result long term. Lehigh valley, Pa, cool season grasses
Rocks and Wood Chips in Very Expensive LawnSoil

I purchased 40 bags of the Scott's LawnSoil to repair an area of my lawn that had some excavation work. I spread the bags, limed the soil, used Scott's Starter Fertilizer and seeded. A few weeks later I had bare spots and saw pieces of wood and stones throughout the newly seeded area. All of this was mixed in with the Scott's Lawn Soil. I bought two additional bags and actually sifted the rocks and wood pieces out. They represented an estimated 15-20% of each bag - yes rocks and wood chips. I would like to upload pictures of the lawn and of me sifting a new bag of the LawnSoil. The Optional button to add photos does not work.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Enriched Lawn Soil and appreciate your feedback. This is not the quality of product we intend to produce.
