I have had my old Kitchen Aid Food Processor for over 20 years and recently started having problems with the container, so I decided to buy the Vitamix food processor attachment bundle that includes the 48oz container. If I could buy a new container for my Kitchen Aid I would because there's nothing wrong with the Base but it's old and hard to find parts. Honestly the jury is still out on how I feel about this processor. First off it's big. I don't know how many people would take advantage of the max capacity but it is big and if you're a shorter person you may have trouble because it sits on top of the vitamix base making it sit higher. Secondly, and this is probably the most irritating is that the clips on the lid that go on either side on the container require quite a bit of strength to push down so they click in. Now I've been told this should become easier over time but it shouldn't be quite this difficult to begin with. It should be manufactured such that they are relatively easy to push down. This becomes even more irritating if you're shorter trying to push down when it's higher up. Honestly a bit of a design flaw. I have my elderly mum live with me and this would be difficult for her to operate. Also be careful of the blades. They are sharp. I accidentally left the blade on the edge of my counter while it and the rest of the components were air drying and my mum sliced the edge of her hand. I haven't used the attachment blades so cannot comment on these. It does work fine. You have to push the lid down so it meets the container quite tight for it to work but it does work fine. I think Vitamix has a few improvements to make on the manufacturing of their Food Processors. I am not in love with this. I wish I was, but I am giving myself the time to try and get used to it and get over my biases.
Good Idea Fragile Product

We’ve purchased the food processor attachment when we bought our blender a little over 2 years ago. The idea was to reduce the amount of counter top appliances that we own by having one base for the blender and the food processor. In theory this would have been a great idea, however the food processor is poorly designed and doesn’t hold up well when used frequently. The first time we used this to grate cheese I had to hold the safety mechanism on the lid down because the lid would lift when the motor came on to grate the cheese, this meant have to hold down the shute guide and the safety mechanism with one hand while using the other to start the motor. While this was an annoying issue it wasn’t enough to make me want to return it, and the motor in the base seems to be as powerful as our old Cuisinart DLC7. The real problems started after about a year and a half. First on of the cheap plastic hubs on one of the grating disks stripped out when grating cheese, then one of the holding tabs on the lid snapped off when removing the lid and finally the safety mechanism on the bowl is broken although it is still usable at this time but it is only a matter of time before it fully fails rendering the food processor useless. Our old food processor was 12 years old and was just starting to fall apart. Vitamix makes great blenders but failed on this product. Also just the food processor attachment cost as much as a stand alone Cuisinart 14 cup food processor.

I decided to splurge for Christmas and upgrade my Vitamix so I bought the 2300 with the food processor. I'd never owned a processor, but I'm using it more than the blender. I make a different sandwich spread every week and have discovered how much better freshly shredded cheese melts than packaged shreds.
So ridiculous product

I bought the food processor attachment and it doesn’t fit with my blender 5200. Now what I do with this attachment?
1 reply from Vitamix team - 10 months ago
Hi there! Unfortunately the Food Processor Attachment only works on the Ascent or Venturist models. If you bought it directly from Vitamix, we would be happy to assist you with a return for refund. If you bought it from a retailer, they too should be able to assist you in a return for refund.

I've always owned food processors, actually several, but never bothered using them. They were difficult to use, difficult to assemble and difficult to clean, so I just sliced and diced with my knife. With the Vitamix food processor, it's seriously easy to assemble, use and clean. Now I just throw my raw veggies in and with a couple pulses, they are sliced and diced perfectly. One of my favorite things is how quick and easy it is to make my own mirepoix. Instead of buying the old, rancid and expensive pre-made mirepoix, I make my own in seconds.

I do love idea of space saver - one very powerful motor is awesome and it is warranted for 7 or even 10 years. It is super powerful, which is also awesome. Now the hate parts: 1. The plastic leaks into food, and it is a design issue. In theory that universal blade looking like propeller rotated by the metal piece from motor. In practice, the black plastic touches the bottom of the container, and you can see how the bottom of the black plastic is eaten tiny bit after each use, and the clear container gets black plastic deposits. I would imagine some of it ends up in the food. I love Vitamix, and recommend it to everyone, but this design needs to be fixed. On a sad side there are very few attachments, and they are super expensive. Some competitors offer way more for fraction of cost - with Vitamix I pay the higher price and can't get what I have with cheaper brands? I respect Vitamix right to put any price on the product, but at least give people more of a product. And one more thing, is there is no variable speed for the Food Processor.
1 reply from Vitamix team - 1 year ago
Hi there! The variable speed is disabled when using the Food Processor as it is to run at a particular speed to ensure the most uniform cuts. About the plastic rubbing off, we would like you to call as at 1-800-848-2649 so we can take care of this for you, it should not be scrapping off.

Excellent addition after my Cuisinart processor died after 27 years of use. It is nice to add this option to my kitchen rather than a whole new food processor. Saves "real estate" space on the kitchen counter! Highly recommend. PS: I bought the original Vitamix because of the warranty. It needed fixing last year - very prompt and responsive to repair request.

I bought this food processor bundle to go with the Ascent blender, rather than buying a whole separate food processor appliance. I bought it for 3 main reasons: 1: to take advantage of the self-detect feature of the blender, 2: smaller footprint than a separate appliance, 3: the number of discs to produce various types of results. I really appreciate Vitamix's quality and long warranties. I've only owned this since late May, but so far I'm very happy with it, and would recommend it to anyone who has a Vitamix blender with the self-detect feature. I've owned Vitamix products starting back around 2013 with the Professional Series 500 blender, and recently upgraded to an Ascent model 3500. The food processor really expands on what I can do in the kitchen. Totally worth the purchase.

Plastic container starts to chip

It was space saving when I bought this attachment 2 years ago when it was first launch. Sometimes it detects just fine, sometimes it takes a little fidgeting. The cover is not the easiest to put on and take off. Just recently, I noticed the plastic inside starts to chip. They look like tiny hairs. If I didn't look closely, I wouldn't have noticed the hair like plastic. Not sure if it's because I have been making nut recipes more than before. My Cuisinart blender container did not chip on me. I never washed the container in a dishwasher. Always a quick rinse with sponge and soap. Love the blender but not sure I can give 5 stars for the attachment.

Hi! It is hard to see from these photos, however it is likely that it is marring. The Vitamix containers do not release any plastic particles during the blending process. Though it appears as scratches when looking at the container, the marring you see is simply a cosmetic denting of the plastic. The material is not being carved away, as the markings you see are just minor indentations in the plastic. Your container is safe to continue to use. If it seems like something more, please call us at 1-800-848-2649.
