Q: Does this remove mold spores? Does this create ozone?

A: Hello Marie, the product will remove odors, VOCs and particles as small as .01 microns. The product does not omit any harmful ozone and meets all CARB certifications.

Q: Do you have to purchase filters at some point or are they all washable?

A: Hello, the Winix 9800 air purifier is a 4-stage filtration. The pre filter and plasmawave will last forever (pre filter can be washed). We do recommend changing the carbon filter once every 3 months (you get 4 in the box for a full year of filtration) and the true HEPA once a year, or when the check filter indicator light comes on. The Winix filter indicator is based on actual usage due to our smart sensors, and not a timer.

Q: Does this turn off when it's dark or lower the speed?

A: Hello Mary, the Winix 9800 air purifier is equipped with a light sensor. When dark and in the auto mode, the unit will dim lights and go to the lowest fan speed. You are also able to put the unit into sleep mode manually.

We are three months in. When we clean the filters there is a very noticeable amount of accumulated dust etc.

I have owned my 9800 air cleaner for about a year now. It works well for my apartment but I have one complaint as well do for all the air cleaners I have owned. Filter life span is rarely a year. At 6 months I have recorded 45% or lower. But that's the price to have a good air purifier. I have never had any issues with the 9800. air purifier. I highly recommend the Winix 9800 for your needs

We have two of these and find that that the air quality sensor is quite different between the two. They are quiet and non-intrusive on living spaces. They do NOT recover well from a router reboot. I have to re-register them each time I reboot the router

Burned some roasted sweet potatoes and opening the doors didn't get it rid of the odor. I cranked this purifier up to high for about 30 min, and it was gone. It does a great job, shuts off when the room is dark, and comes back on quietly when the light in the room increases (or is it detecting motion?). It's my third unit and by far the best, but all of them work very well.
