@maya_the_wilde_reader 🎯Target Run problems… a book and Starbies… are always on the list..periodt! Sadly, my starbies didn’t make it ☕️ ⁉️what is your #targetrun must? So, I read this book a while back and I just could not review it. I wasn’t sure what all it made me feel. The simplest thing would be to say that it awoke various conflicting emotions within me. So, let me tell you 💁‍♀️ You’ve Reached Sam By: Dustin Thao Genre: YA Rating: 3/5⭐️ ⚠️ please check for TW The hype that surrounded this book was intense and that always sets things off on the wrong foot IMO. Even if it ends up being great, you are already walking in with a preconceived notion and your expectations are on high alert. It's hard to turn it all off when going in🥴 This book, to me, felt that it just did not live up to its full potential. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great aspects of this book that I did enjoy, but this is one of those times where they are overshadowed by the ones you did not like. I felt it could have explored so much more when it comes to dealing with grief. I personally felt that Julie, our MC, priorities, and decision-making were the cause for my dislike. I felt she was out of touch and selfish. I kept reminding myself that perhaps this was how she dealt with grief, but sadly, we see this is just how she is. this is made clear when you are able to look back on the events. Idk 🤷‍♀️ that may be controversial, but listen, it was too much. So, yeah that is all I'll say about that—since that is as nice as I can be about it. As the book wrapped up, we saw a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, but I just wish Sam had had much more. Sam was caring, sweet, and thoughtful and I am glad we get to see that much at least. This was definitely an emotional read (not devastating though. This is CLEARLY a YA and it shows. I felt problems weren't dealt with realistically and emotions were rationalized-- in a very unhealthy way. Ultimately, character development would have been its saving grace, but sadly that was not the case. POSITIVE NOTE I DO hold hope for Thao's next book💁‍♀️ #booklover #booknerd #targetfinds #targetbooks #targetrun🎯
