Alaffia Beautiful Curls Curl Defining Gel - 8 fz

I LOVE my Curl Enhance Leave-In Conditioner, and was hoping this would be a perfect compliment. However, this Defining Gel is not great for my 2C-3A curls. I applied to clean hair, and suffered rather flat hair for the day. Usually I shampoo only once per week, but this stuff never really rinsed out, and I endured flat hair until my next shampoo. It does smell amazing, as do ALL Curl Enhancing products.

I have been a loyal user of the curl enhance styling gel for years and have recommended it to my fellow curlies. However, the new formula contains horrible artificial fragrance (my husband referred to it as "outhouse deodorizer" scent), which left me with a headache the first time I opened the new jar that came in the mail. I have bad fragrance allergies and this was pretty awful. Alaffia, what are you thinking??? Your loyal customer base supports your products because they are natural and are good for people and the earth. Many of us have allergies that make it difficult or impossible for us to use products with synthetic fragrance and artificial ingredients. If you change your ingredients you lose your customers. Including this one. Please bring back the ORIGINAL formula with no artificial fragrances, it was definitely a winner!!

I used to love this product. It had great ingredients, smelled good, and made my hair soft and shiny. Now it smells like chemicals and my hair actually feels drier than if I don't use it. Very disappointed and will not by this again!

After 10 years of searching, 2 yrs ago, I finally found a healthy, plant based product that gave me long lasting, defined, bouncy wash & go. Then you guys went and changed the formula. Why?

I have been using alaffia products for years, SPECIFICALLY because of the low-tox ingredients & zero artificial fragrance etc. Of freaking course, they had to go and change it. WHY, Alaffia?? Who bought you out?

This has been a staple product for me for several years, especially since it didn't have "Parfum" fragrance added. Unfortunately now that the ingredients have changed, I will not be able to use this anymore due to artificial fragrances causing headaches and allergic reactions. Such a bummer.

I've been using this product for a couple of years now and it was really great for my 2C/3A hair, so I would have given it 4 stars. However, the formulation seems to have been completely changed and I can't use it due to the fragrance. If there's any way to bring back the old formulation or change the fragrance I will go back to using it!

I was a fan of the version of this that came in a tube. When that product went off the market, I waited quite awhile for its replacement to come out. And I was so glad it did! It was great for my wavy hair! And it SMELLED nice, like bananas, coconut, and shea butter. But I just opened a new container yesterday, and … what a shock! First, it has a sickening smell, reminiscent of my grandmother’s Avon products. Fortunately, that smell eventually dissipated over night. But also, Alaffia isn’t being accurate with its description and ingredient list. The description says there’s shea butter in it. The ingredient list says there isn’t. Which is it? PLEASE, Alaffia, bring back your previous formula!

I absolutely LOVED this gel. It didn’t leave my hair feeling funky and it helped my hair hold loose, tame curls. I bought a new jar a few days ago, and the first thing I noticed was it smelled different. I didn’t think too much of it used it like I usually do. I picked it up this evening and noticed the strange smell again, and it was starting to bother my nose. So I pulled my old jar out of the trash to compare ingredient lists, and I couldn’t believe how much it had changed!!! The original gel was full of good stuff and was scented by “a blend of extracts, essential oils, and other natural ingredients.” Now I don’t know what it is, but it smells more like chemicals. If I decide to continue using this jar it will definitely be my LAST. You lost a loyal customer of this product, and as I run out of the other products I use, if the ingredients have changed you will have lost a loyal customer period.

I used to LOVE this product line. It was all I used for my hair. Now it smells like the chemicals used to treat a porta potty. Definitely will never purchase again.

This has been my go-to gel for years. It controls my frizz without leaving my hair sticky or crispy. As always with Alaffia, I love the ingredients.

I really love all the products I've tried by Allaffia, but their curl enhancing and defining products are so amazing.

I tried it one time and I loved it now I can't find it anywhere

I have short ~4-5” wavy hair. Other curly products have weighed my hair down, until I eventually learned I have low porosity. I wash with a clarifying shampoo bar, then while my hair is soaking wet, I put about a teaspoon of this product in, work it through, and scrunch. Then I blot dry with a t-shirt and diffuse to dry. (Air drying would also work but my hair dries way too slowly for that.) It really enhances my curl pattern and gives me big bouncy spirals instead of floppy waves. They last pretty well on the second day too. I used to only get to have curls in humid weather (LOL) but now I can have them every day!

Makes my curls so healthy and love the smell! Great price too.

Product is so light but gave my curls great definition with no frizz! Used with the accompanying leave in conditioner.

I have thin and curly hair so I need a more natural product that has great hold but doesn't weigh the hair down. This is it. This is the product. I am so happy I found my forever gel. Grateful for this company and their wonderful products.

This left my hair heavy and scalp dry. It didn't enhance my natural waves. Super disappointed.

I am a huge fan of Alaffia products! I’ve been using this company for years! I’ve seen them grow and introduce new products. This hair gel is great, it smells and feels wonderful. Not to heavy and non flaky. I have 4a and 4b textured and hair. I pair it with the leave in conditioner in this collection (and I add some additional castor oil, I live in the desert) and my curls are poppin!
