I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties seeing the water tank line, however, there is not a light in the iron. However, our irons hold between approximately 1/4 cup to 2 cups of water. Softened water has a acid balancing (base) chemical added that can precipitate out and build up on the coils. Some softened water may still have enough mineral content not to cause problems. However, you can use mineral water. Our appliances are built and tested to withstand high mineral content/hard water. As long as cleaning instructions are followed there shouldn’t be any problems. In regards to emptying the water tank, you do not need to empty the water tank between uses, unless it will be for long periods that the iron is not used. However, you will want to have the variable steam dial set to dry when storing the iron.
